moonshayde: (Impala on the Road)
I was just heading by from the pharmacy and in line at a drive-thru for some food when I heard a very familiar, distinctive roar.

Impala?

I turned my head to see a black Impala (different year/look) chug by me with two guys in it.

Huh. Okay then.

I'm on my way home and what do I see? Same car chugging past me on a different street.

Weird day.
moonshayde: (Roadside)
Okie dokie.

All shoveled out with some time left to play. Bro and I tag teamed the foot of snow we got over night, did a quick fix for our fallen fence, and are now resting.

Which gives me some time to play on LJ :)

Looking ahead, there are a few things I want to be more regular with.

Posting: I want to start posting more again. I feel like a stranger here on my own LJ, and I know it has a lot to do with going back to feeling uncomfortable in my own space. I am by no means a mean-spirited fan (aside from some shows I want to DIE DIE DIE), but I try hard to keep this journal a positive place to come back to. Instead, I've been keeping my mouth shut what I've felt about certain episodes because I don't want to be overwhelmed with negativity. I shouldn't feel the need to hide from my own freakin' journal. I've done this before in the past, but never this bad. So I am percolating on how I will be adding it back into one of the fun parts of my day.

Commenting: I really do want to comment on people's LJ's more. Most of the time I just don't know what to say. Or I have to wade through so much junk before I get to something I can actually comment on, which by then I'm too tired anyway. So I am focusing on being better with that. Which leads to...

Friending/Unfriending: I think a good chunk of us have drifted apart and I won't be offended if you're one of those people who would like to go since we just failed to connect. You're welcome to stay, of course, and believe it or not I do LOVE to talk. So if you are interested in getting to know each other better than just some random fandom stuff, let me know. I love a good healthy conversation. I'm not cutting anyone right now, and I still love the following and would love to continue to talk to you if we have some of these things in common:

Supernatural
Smallville
SG-1
Dark Angel
X-Files
Writing
Reading (I especially like contemporary and urban fantasy)
History/Anthropology/Archaeology
Fanart

I still see myself as primarily a gen person, though there are many het couples I like. I still am all about Sam and Dean on SPN. I still love Dean/Jo even now. I still watch the show for the brother's relationship. And I still love my other shows listed. (Yay, Clark/Lois!)

There's always more and I'm happy to talk to people who are very different than me as well. It's just easier if we have a few things in common. So like I said, if you think it's time to move on and we have nothing in common, feel free to unfriend. But if you would like to know each other better, just drop me a comment or a message :)

BTW, Supernatural STILL ROCKS :)

Art and Fic: You know, I've been making icons here and there, and writing as well, and just not POSTING it. So I need to stop being lazy and just post it already.

So there you go. Hope everyone is well! Please let me know if I've missed anything important as I have been LJ-lazy!
moonshayde: (Heat of The Moment)
Maybe style is the wrong word. I've seen many in the pro world call it a "brand." Anne Rice is known for vampires. We think horror or the horrible fantastic when we think Stephen King. I think of spies with Tom Clancy and mysteries with Agatha Christie.

Well, it got me thinking about those of us in the fanfic world. Do we have our own brand? I would think so. There are authors you go to for hurt/comfort and others for sexy p0rn and others for crack.

So I was curious for anyone who has ever read my writing whether it's Supernatural or SG-1 or Dark Angel or something else entirely. What is my brand? When you think [livejournal.com profile] moonshayde what do you expect?

This is an interesting exercise for anyone to try.

Been forever since I did one of these. Let's see if I can actually answer it if anyone plays.

*Taps mic* Is this on? Anyway...

Ask me a fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Questions can be as wacky as you want. Ask me about tv shows, characters, fanfic, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you want.

Just a few things...

1.
Well, I made the final decision. I am going to close my website. It makes me sad and I'll be sorry to see it go, but it's for the best. I don't have time to keep updating it and I don't really use it anyway. Most of my fic is right here on LJ.

This will create some problems with dead links I'm sure. I never wanted for that to happen, but it is what it is.

That said: Over the course of the next few months, I'll be moving the rest of my fic back over here and changing the links to LJ links and not website links. Everything there can be found here anyway. I'll just miss my pretty headers/banners.

2. Also, I've come to the decision that I will be retiring my SG-1 slash fic. It was a hard decision to make, but I think it's the right one. I don't have a problem with slash and I think a few of the stories I wrote we're bad at all. I'm not sorry I wrote them. But they don't really reflect how I truly see the show or how I feel about the characters. I'm an idea writer and I write when ideas come to me, independent if I believe in the pairing or not. I don't expect many people to understand, but it's just something I have to do. I'm just not into slash anymore and I'm no longer a slash writer. Any slash pairings in the future will come from my own stories if I find it's part of the character.

If anyone would like any of the SG-1 slash stories, they are still available and will be for a couple of months.

3. Finally, I know a lot of people have been friending me and unfriending me lately. That's fine. For those of you who have friended me, I don't usually friend back right away anymore since I'm overly cautious at avoiding wank or stuff that will bring me down. So if you were looking for some kind of mutual discussion/friending just let me know, and if we have stuff in common, I'll friend you back. If you're just here to read or watch, that's fine too. I don't mind. I just can't tell sometimes. And if you feel like you would like we're not connecting, have nothing in common, or I clog up your flist, go ahead and defriend me. It's okay,* really :)

*Except for a few of you. You're all mine! *cackles*
moonshayde: (Default)
I really wish I could offer to make/write/do something for you all on my flist, but I know I won't finish. I'm notoriously late and behind on EVERYTHING. Add sick on top of it :(

So I hope you'll accept my good thoughts and best wishes to you, no matter what you celebrate or don't celebrate.

I'm not asking for anything myself, so don't feel any pressure if you're the type that feels they need to do something for everyone on their flist. I'm happy that you're here :)

If I end up creating something along the way I know someone might enjoy, I'll post it for sure. But in the meantime, I wish you the very best :)
moonshayde: (Default)
I have had a few moments to be fannish! I shall be posting stuff soon for anyone who wants it.

The snow is a'comin'...
moonshayde: (Pass the Torch (Sam and Dean))
Okay, what the hey. I'll play.

Give me any character, and I'll tell you ten things about them from my personal canon.

Might not make 10, but I'll do my best.

I haven't done one in ages and figured I should. This meme works better for currently airing shows, so I am just going to stick with those.

For each of your fandoms, name
1. (worship!) A character you absolutely worship
2. (more!) A character you'd like to see more of
3. (destroy!) A character you could drop off the face of the canon/fanon/fandom, etc
4. (hit list) A character you'd like to have #1 kill
5. (sex list) A character you'd like to have #1 sex
6. (ressurection!) A character you'd like to un-kill.

You haven't been on my flist a very very long time, but I'm glad you're here. You tend to offer bits of insight that I don't often think of, and I enjoy your link to anime, something I used to enjoy quite a bit myself. We don't talk a ton, but I'm happy you stick around :)
moonshayde: (Steadfast)
We don't talk much, though you've been on my flist in a while, but I'm still amazed at the passion that you give to your interests. You have a deep level of dedication to the things in your life that you love. I know you have aspirations to be a writer, and you know I'll cheer you along the way :)

1. Reply to this post if you want me to tell you how cool you are.
2. Watch my journal over the next few days for a post just about you and why you rock my socks!
3. Post these instructions in your journal and give your friends a much needed dose of love and adoration.

I caved and watched this as it was all over my flist. Thanks alot, [personal profile] meg_tdj.

Basically, it's Sherlock Holmes trailer with SPN footage. It's hilarious. Dean is Holmes and Sam is Watson.

Wow, is everything down this morning?

Blantantly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] meg_tdj:

Question for fanfic writers: In your chosen fandom(s), which characters do you find the hardest and the easiest to write?

So I give you: Supernatural, SG-1, Smallville, and Dark Angel.

SPN

I find writing for this fandom to be HARD. It doesn't stop me, but sometimes I get emo and think I should. I think Dean is probably my strongest character. Most of the time I believe I get his dialogue and attitude right, and since I heavily idenitfy with his good AND bad qualities, I think I get into his head pretty well. But I can be hit and miss with him, too.

I default to Sam a lot because I find him more focused and serious than Dean. Plus, I like to write reactions to Dean which is easier from another point of view. Plus, I enjoy it. I have had trouble writing him in S4 because of the direction the show took, but once we got in his head the second half of the season it was a little easier. However, I honestly don't think I write him correctly half the time and it annoys me to no end. I have his research side down, but I seem to fail at his subtle digs and word plays. I get so angry about it sometimes I just want to be super emo and quit, LOL. I wish I could write him better.

Bobby and John have been hit or miss for me, though I've never written Bobby's pov (yet, though I have some planned) and I think I wrote John's pov once. But I have had them in stories, as I have Jo, Bela, Castiel, and Ruby. I think I do okay with them, but I haven't written them enough or long enough to really have an idea how well I write them.

SG-1

Daniel is usually my default, but that doesn't mean he's the easiest to write for me. He's in my field so I get that aspect of him and he's sympathetic in many ways, but I'm not the strongest with his snark. I really have to work for it. Sam is similar. I'm a lot like Sam, and I can do her technobabble just fine, but I have a harder time writing her because the show often made her an emotional mess. I liked her better when she was fresh and green and excited in the early seasons. I found her easier to write.

My easiest to write? The two that are NOT like me. At least not that I can see. I find Jack the easiest and I adore writing him. And I've had so much fun writing Teal'c that it isn't funny. Those two brought me a lot of fannish joy.

Smallville

I haven't written much SV fic, but I always write Clark. So far, anyway. I find he is a nice stable character and I can relate to his morals and good-nature. Plus, I'm an idealist. I especially like writing banter between him and Lois. Lois is a blast to write, but I've never done her pov. I seem more comfortable with being on Clark's side.

Dark Angel

I've only written a few, but it's no surprise that I adore Alec. Yet, I also find him hard to write. I find Max the hardest, and I haven't even attempted the other characters like Original Cindy, Logan, and Sketchy. The easiest? I was surprised that it was Joshua. I feel like I write Joshua best. But maybe that's just in my head. I've had a lot of positive feedback on the few stories I've written in this fandom, including requests for novels and long-fic. Maybe that's what happens when I fandom gets old. I know that from a writer's standpoint, this fandom could easily suck me in because there is so much to explore. I fight it everyday.

So that's that. I've written for some other shows, but these are the top ones. I find it interesting that sometimes the character least like me I wrote the best, but sometimes the characters most like me I wrote the best. So there isn't an answer that covers everything. It's all about context, the characters themselves, and the atmopshere of the show.

What about you?
moonshayde: (Bobby is Sane)
Not only do I see uncut stuff on my flist, but I also had the fortune of finding a Supernatural spoiler discussion in the middle of Smallville spoilers. Just because a person is spoiled for one show, doesn't mean they are for another. And just because something might not seem to need a cut, doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't.

Becaue now I'm making connections and seeing stuff I wanted to wait for. Grr.

Man, people can be inconsiderate.

ETA: One problem fixed! Thank you! I don't consider them spoilers, but I just didn't want to see them.
moonshayde: (Bedside (SPN))
Hmm. I'll give this a try just for fun...

I know I've said this before, but I don't think I'm going to post at K-Site anymore. I keep trying, but there is no way to have a decent conversation over there.

I have been loving the posts here on LJ by [livejournal.com profile] jeannev and [livejournal.com profile] cloiser_trish, though. So nice to see some of the best of Clark and Tom Welling out there :)

I've seen this one all over my flist...

Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general.

Just one question, please, but it can (and perhaps should) have sub-parts.

Question can be as wacky as you want. Ask me about tv shows, characters, fanfic in general, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you want.

Go ahead. Ask me whatever you want. I don't mind.
moonshayde: (alec smile)
Okay, I think I did the biggest cut I've ever done since I joined LJ. I may have a few more to do, but it's mostly done.

If you are surprised you were cut and want to be added back, let me know. I could have made an error (it happens) and clicked the wrong button. I have mostly cut people I haven't talked to regularly in ages, people who have completely different interests nos, or inactive journals. Also, there may be a few where we have something in common, but just never ever clicked. I'm here to interact with people so I'm tired of skimming so much. I want it to be a two way street and I haven't been able to do that lately.

So, if you are interested in talking and having a conversation, just comment to be added. Thanks :)
