Okie dokie.

All shoveled out with some time left to play. Bro and I tag teamed the foot of snow we got over night, did a quick fix for our fallen fence, and are now resting.

Which gives me some time to play on LJ :)

Looking ahead, there are a few things I want to be more regular with.

Posting: I want to start posting more again. I feel like a stranger here on my own LJ, and I know it has a lot to do with going back to feeling uncomfortable in my own space. I am by no means a mean-spirited fan (aside from some shows I want to DIE DIE DIE), but I try hard to keep this journal a positive place to come back to. Instead, I've been keeping my mouth shut what I've felt about certain episodes because I don't want to be overwhelmed with negativity. I shouldn't feel the need to hide from my own freakin' journal. I've done this before in the past, but never this bad. So I am percolating on how I will be adding it back into one of the fun parts of my day.

Commenting: I really do want to comment on people's LJ's more. Most of the time I just don't know what to say. Or I have to wade through so much junk before I get to something I can actually comment on, which by then I'm too tired anyway. So I am focusing on being better with that. Which leads to...

Friending/Unfriending: I think a good chunk of us have drifted apart and I won't be offended if you're one of those people who would like to go since we just failed to connect. You're welcome to stay, of course, and believe it or not I do LOVE to talk. So if you are interested in getting to know each other better than just some random fandom stuff, let me know. I love a good healthy conversation. I'm not cutting anyone right now, and I still love the following and would love to continue to talk to you if we have some of these things in common:

Supernatural
Smallville
SG-1
Dark Angel
X-Files
Writing
Reading (I especially like contemporary and urban fantasy)
History/Anthropology/Archaeology
Fanart

I still see myself as primarily a gen person, though there are many het couples I like. I still am all about Sam and Dean on SPN. I still love Dean/Jo even now. I still watch the show for the brother's relationship. And I still love my other shows listed. (Yay, Clark/Lois!)

There's always more and I'm happy to talk to people who are very different than me as well. It's just easier if we have a few things in common. So like I said, if you think it's time to move on and we have nothing in common, feel free to unfriend. But if you would like to know each other better, just drop me a comment or a message :)

BTW, Supernatural STILL ROCKS :)

Art and Fic: You know, I've been making icons here and there, and writing as well, and just not POSTING it. So I need to stop being lazy and just post it already.

So there you go. Hope everyone is well! Please let me know if I've missed anything important as I have been LJ-lazy!

okay, I'm just so curious: What's your list of shows that you want to die? (For myself, I can really only think of one recently, and it perished.)

Well, I'm certain I'm about to tick off like half my flist now...

But I'm not really into Fringe. (I find the promos cheesy and I quit watching the show because I found the characters, sans Walter, to be wooden). I see it hyped as the most in-depth and complex and amazing show on TV, and I just don't see it. I never saw much heart in it, but of course that's my opinion.

I tried Sanctuary on SyFy and but I couldn't get through the bad acting and the cheesy lines. It's a shame because I loved it when it was a cheesy webisode series with really bad effects. I loved it soooo much. But I've tried watching and I just can't get it grab me.

And finally, a toss up between The Vampire Diaries and True Blood. I know a lot of people on my flist love them. I've seen parts of TVD and I just scratch my head wondering why. Ian Somerhalder was pretty good on Lost, but I laugh at the lines he has on TDV. And True Blood looks like soft core porn.

No offense to the people that love those shows. I say love your show and be proud of it. And I mean it. I tend to keep these opinions to myself. But since you asked...

I tried Sanctuary a couple of times. I want to watch: it stars Amanda Tapping! The show has a female lead but isn't about her love life! She's a woman scientist!

Sadly, I hardly like any of the other characters. I had a lot of trouble with the writing and the effects. I wish I could enjoy it as some of my friends do, but sadly I can't. (I'm a little reassured that you can't either.)

I tried it a couple of times too. I mean, I went NUTS over it when it was in webisode form. It has this really cool opening instrumental (that I still have) and it was gorgeous. It was a little darker. When they brought it in as a series, it lost some of its edgy touch and they changed some of the character's backgrounds and personalities a bit. I was really disappointed.

I really wanted to love that show. I wanted to love it so so so much. it has everything I should love. But when I sit to watch it, I just can't get past all its flaws like I can with other shows.

I'd really like to try the American version of Being Human.

Really? Have you tried the UK BH? I am addicted to that (although it upsets me sometimes—sometimes a lot!) and have no desire to see the SyFy version.

No I haven't see the UK version yet. I'd like to give the American version a try first to get an idea of what it is like - I get lost with Britishisms - and if I like the premise, I intend to watch the UK original.

If you don't like, it, though bear in mind that execution is a huge part of it. The concept sounds absolutely daft; it's the actors who made it for me, and that's the British version.

When did you start/stop watching Fringe? I felt that way at the beginning, so didn't watch it, then was convinced to watch the end of the 2nd season and have been fairly impressed ever since.

My "please die" list pretty much consisted of Stargate: Universe. If only because the sooner it died, the closer we were to the inevitable stargate reboot further down the line.

I stopped watching Fringe somewhere in S1. I just couldn't, even though I really liked Walter. I know everyone says it's been amazing ever since, but I'll be totally honest. A lot of my shying away from that show is for unfair reasons. I've had people put down Supernatural to prop up Fringe, and I hate that. Turns me off right away. I think every show is unique and I hate comparisons. It probably has gotten better. Maybe one day I will watch it.

As much as I loved SG-1, I never watched a single episode of SGU. No interest.

I may have been a little guilty of the Fringe thing. Not bashing, because I still love the show, but man, I am aware of its flaws, and I did ditch it for Fringe at the end of last year (they were on at the same time). Fringe was firing on all cylinders, and you know how satisfying that can be. I may have drawn comparisons in order to illustrate some of the things that I thought Fringe was doing well that Supernatural could be stronger at....but it never was you know, actual hate or anything. In my perfect world, every show I like would be awesome, all at the same time.

SG:U.... I had no interest in it, either, but as the only Stargate fan on a TV blog I was kind of writing for at the time, it fell to me to review it.
I was not impressed. Actually, I felt kind of pissed that I had had to spend time watching it, and pissed that it was tainting my happy SG memories. (Carter, in the Hammond, gets her assed kicked. By al-keshes.It just went downhill from there.)

Well, we still have Supernatural in common! I'm striving to be a better commenter on journals, cause I've been feeling like I was drifting from my friends, so I'm really trying here! And you're right, Supernatural does still rock!

That's the same thing I'm going through. I feel as though I am drifting and I want to make it count, especially with the people who are interested in continuing.

I know what you mean. I'm trying to be more intentional about commenting and posting - and not just memes or words of the day or fic - but it's HARD to keep up with everything.

*hugs*

I've been totally feeling the same way about LJ lately. Hard to post when there's negativity, so not as much posting for me either. I'm always afraid of commenting and saying the wrong thing. It just seems like that happens way too often with people, so I'm just a little quieter than usual.

I'm still here too. Love hearing about SPN. I've been reading cross-over fics with SPN and Angel. Yay for that.

The negativity really brings me down. I know I shouldn't let it get to me, but it's HARD.

Everyone takes everything the wrong way, you know? Including me.

But I'm glad you're still around :)

I'm quiet for months at a time, and wildly negative when my job is making me miserable (which seems to be all of the time since 2009), but we still have interests in common and I still read your posts when I'm around. Sorry I'm such a sucky friend.
