Maybe style is the wrong word. I've seen many in the pro world call it a "brand." Anne Rice is known for vampires. We think horror or the horrible fantastic when we think Stephen King. I think of spies with Tom Clancy and mysteries with Agatha Christie.

Well, it got me thinking about those of us in the fanfic world. Do we have our own brand? I would think so. There are authors you go to for hurt/comfort and others for sexy p0rn and others for crack.

So I was curious for anyone who has ever read my writing whether it's Supernatural or SG-1 or Dark Angel or something else entirely. What is my brand? When you think [livejournal.com profile] moonshayde what do you expect?

This is an interesting exercise for anyone to try.

It's hard to say. You're not easy to put in a box, which is one of the things I like about your writing.

I guess maybe..hmm. you do you a mean Dean-focus without slighting Sam.

Well, I am happy to hear I can't be pigeon-holed, but hmmm LOL

Thanks! I'm glad I don't slight Sam even though Dean is my obvious favorite.

It's just so nice to have stories I can go to for some Dean-love that aren't bashing or minimizing Sam, you know? And I loved your quasi-AU with season 4 Sam. You nailed him without it making him stupidly evil or petty...nor by glossing over his flaws.

I expect high quality, emotionally-charged writing, recognizable characters, and realistic dialogue. I don't think it's any one fandom that you're better at than any other, but I do have to admit that I have a tendency to associate you with SG1 above the others, because that's the first I read from you.

I think most people associate me with SG-1. I don't tend to write as much with SPN and when I do, it's not what the fandom typical wants.

Thanks!

Oooh, this is hard. I do have a certain thing I think of when I think of your stories, but I'm not sure how to put it into words--a genre or category or anything like that. I guess in a way, I think of your stories as being crafted, and I also liked the way you did characterization.

This last is difficult to explain. So often fanfic authors will use sort of tricks to characterization--things that everyone would instantly recognize as something Jack would say, for instance, using certain phrases or words from the show--or character tics of some kind. I'm not sure what to call it. Your characters felt and sounded like the characters and just were the characters without the over-the-top stuff. And this was a very good thing.

Also, in another comment, [livejournal.com profile] claudiapriscus mentioned that you could write a Dean-focused story without slighting Sam. I've never read your SPN fic since you got into that around the time I was pretty much over the show, but this. *g* I felt like you were fair to all the characters, and I mean that in a good way also. :-)

Maybe I should have just seconded [livejournal.com profile] brihana25--especially the recognizable characters and realistic dialogue. That's pretty much exactly what I meant.
