Celebrating Finale Week: THE TEAM
Jun. 22nd, 2007 08:23 amYou know I had to save the best for last, right?
SG-1 - both the show and the team - has always been a sum of its parts. One of the reasons why we love these characters so much is in how they relate to each other. It's not all puppies and kittens: SG-1 fight. They don't always agree. They don't always get along. They certainly don't see eye to eye. But the beauty of the team is that despite all their differences, they come together as one functional unit and get the job done.
Team truly is love.
I have no possible topics today beause I want you to express the joy of the team in any way you can. This can be classic team, S6 team, the team reunited in S7, Sam's team, Cameron's team, or S10 team. Heck, even the supporting characters that make SG-1 even better. Share the love. Send me drabbles and ficlets that everyone can share. Send icons, caps, pictures, meta, thoughts.
Let's thank the team.
Thanks, SG-1 for 10 splendid years of entertainment. I might not have been with you that entire time, but I'll never forget the fun, despite the ups and downs. And I intend to keep the love alive even after the series draws to a close tonight.

SG-1 would have never made it without General George Hammond.
Through all the craziness and the bizarre, Hammond served as the rock that grounded them all. Hammond brought credibility and stability to the SGC, holding everything in a sense of reality while everything else seemed so fantastic. Like the other characters, Hammond grew over time, moving from a man looking at an easy assignment before retiring to a man who gave his heart and soul to the SGC, giving what it takes to make sure it ran as effecitively as possible. And while he had a visible affection for SG-1, he never came across as playing favorites - we knew he would do anything to secure any of the lives of those he commanded.
Though Hammond didn't get much screetime, the time he did yet supplemented the other characters perfectly. But over the course of the series, there have been other important supporting characters that had added to show and to the main cast. We had Janet Fraiser, the passionate and spunky doctor that oversaw SGC medical problems for many years. Favorites like Reynolds, Kalwalski, Bra'tac, Jacob, Skaara, Sha're...the list goes on and on.
Then, like Hammond, there were other series regulars that have helped shaped the series. There was Jonas Quinn, observant and happy, always looking to discover something knew and forever haunted by what happened to Daniel on Kelowna. There is Cameron Mitchell, the ultimate SG-1 fanboy whose enthusiasm has only recently been dampered by the hardships of the job. Vala Mal Doran, thief and con-artist, yet with a softer, more vunerable inner core. Hank Landry, head of the SGC, whose own style is both abrupt and laid back, but trusted enough to get the job done.
And of course, who can forget the villains?
So, this time around, tell me your fave moments for any or all of these characters? What did they contribute? Who deserved more attention? What would you liked to have seen? What kind of backstory or future story do you envision for these characters. Remember, this is for Hammond and everyone else. You can certainly squee about unpopular characters here, as well as the much loved ones.
Post meta, vids, links, discussion, fave scenes, fave lines...anything for the rest of the cast of SG-1.
And icons, people! We can always use more icons for the rest of the cast, both supporting and main.
So tell me, why do you love these characters?
And don't forget to squee with Jack, Daniel, Sam, and Teal'c

Celebrating Finale Week: TEAL'C
Jun. 20th, 2007 07:35 amAh, Teal'c.
Ex-Prime of Apohpis, one of the leaders of the Jaffa, warrior, father, friend.
Over the years, Teal'c has shown many sides. When he first joined SG-1, he was reserved both in manner and in speech. As the years passed, he become more open about his passions, his fears, and his goals, while his latent sense of humor emerged. Teal'c grew more and more comfortable on Earth and found himself in a difficult position as he become identified more with the Tau'ri than the Jaffa.
Yet, Teal'c never abandoned his cause and he still fights for his people. Only now, "his people" are both the Tau'ri and the Jaffa.
So, what do you love about Teal'c?
--------------------------------
Possible topics:
*What is your fave Teal'c episode?
*What is your face Teal'c line? (God, there are so many of them.)
*Why do you think Teal'c decided to stay with the Tau'ri over the free Jaffa?
*Write a ficlet or a drabble with the prompts "honor" or "smile."
*Post an icon with the theme fighter.
*If you could describe Teal'c in one word, what would it be?
*If Teal'c had the chance to change one thing in his life over the years, what do you think it would be?
Feel free to post ficlets, drabbles, links, pictures, icons, or any other discussion to celebrate Teal'c.
And remember to share the love and join in celebrating Jack, Daniel, and Sam.

Celebrating Finale Week: SAM
Jun. 19th, 2007 07:51 amSam Carter.
Both a brilliant scientist and a military officer, Sam is constantly walking the line that separates the two. In her early days on the team, she was often the half-way point between Jack and Daniel, a mediator of sorts, as their respective points of view clashed. Since then, she's grown from a wide-eyed, good-natured, but ofen uptight soldier, to a more relaxed mature woman who is more comfortable with herself and can take control of the situation, if necessary.
Like her teammates, she is there for those she loves. She has been known to struggle with dettachment/attachment within the military mindset which clashes with her caring nature, but she's always there, looking out for those she cares about.
So why do you love Sam Carter?
------------------------------
Possible topics
*What is your fave Sam episode?
*What are your face Sam lines?
*If you could use one word to describe Sam, what would it be?
*Write a drabble around the word "bold"
*Create an icon around the theme of "velocity"
*Did Sam play any "experiments" on Mark when they were younger? If so, what?
*Why do you think Sam chose the military in our reality but not in many of the AUs?
Once again, these are just suggestions. Please post any kind of meta, pics, icons, fics, links, etc.
And remember not to forget to participate in our previous discussions. Celebrate Jack here and Daniel here.

Celebrating Finale Week: DANIEL
Jun. 18th, 2007 08:02 amToday, we celebrate Daniel.
Daniel Jackson - multiple PhD holder, speaker of many many many languages. Anthropologist. Linguist. Archaeologist. Egyptologist.
Daniel brought to the team an unparalleled sense of wonder, and often acts as the moral voice of the team, mostly in the early years. His curiosity and search for knowledge are among his greatest strenghs and also his greatest faults. At times arrogant, Daniel can be a dangerous force once he has his mind set on something. He's not just a man that knows he's right. He is right. And he won't stop until he's proven so.
At the same time, Daniel doesn't search for praise, awards, or accolades. He is content to learn and explore. But he's restless and that restlessness can often take him away from his friends and those he loves.
Like Jack, Daniel is no stranger to tragedy. It's helped shpae who he is and who he'll become. But in the end, Daniel is unwavering in his support for those he lets into his bubble and he's not afraid to die for them.
So, why do you love Daniel?
-----------------------------------------
Possible topics, but feel free to post anything.
*When did Daniel first start to show adaptation to the military mindset?
*What is your fave Daniel line?
*What is your fave Daniel episode?
*If you could sum up Daniel in one word, what would it be?
*Write a drabble for the word "unyielding" or "discovery"
*Create an icon on the theme of "undying"
*How do you think Ascension impacted Daniel?
Again, post anything Daniel related!
(And remember, you can always come back to share the love. Don't miss out on yesterday's theme which was Jack.)

Celebrating Finale Week: JACK
Jun. 17th, 2007 08:49 amTo kick things off, let's talk Jack, shall we?
You can't talk Stargate without Jack O'Neill, the man of many sides, because only the man can stick it to the man. We've seen the military man, the soldier, the Black Ops specialist. We've seen the leader, the hero, and the friend. We've seen a man shaped by tragedy and pain, a man that became so wounded he nearly commited suicide, but we've also seen that same man refind himself and move on.
He may not ever completely heal, but he's recaptured some of that spark of life again. And it's this spark and need that drives him, keeps him focused, and allows him to keep those under his comamnd, his teammates, and his friends in line so they can live to fight another day.
Whether you enjoy strategist!Jack, angsty!Jack, smart!Jack, playingdumb!Jack, wounded!Jack, whumped!Jack, witty!Jack, team!Jack, cranky!Jack -- the list goes on and on -- please come here and post and share your joy. Drabbles, ficlets, links, vids, meta, icons, banners, wallpaper, squee, episode caps, pictures, episode discussion, fave one-liners, fave moments, fave episodes...give it your all, people! This is all about sharing :)
As someone once said, and I don't have the proper cite, "Jack is a family man without a family."
How true. But in his years with SG-1, either on the team or supporting the team from afar, he's established a new family. They will never replace what he's lost, but we know he'd do anything for them.

Possible topics to get things going...

What's your fave Jack line?
How does the word respect apply to Jack? Duty? Pain? Forgiveness? Loss? Friendship?
If you could sum up Jack in one word, what would it be?
Post a drabble or ficlet for the word "forever."
Why did Jack take the Washington DC assignment?
What are your thoughts on the dynamic between Jack and Hammond?
Post icons that are inspired by "deadly" or "satisfied."

Thoughts on Season One SG-1
Jun. 10th, 2007 09:01 amSo, I am very fannish this morning. Actually, I am always more fannish on weekends, when no one is around LOL Ah well. I'll talk to myself anyway.
I was listening to some music and started thinking about my Jack-focused and early!SG-1 focused team fic, which then turned into thoughts on the dynamics between SG-1 during the first half of Season One.
( Just some random fannish thoughts about Jack, Season 1 SG-1, and team cohesion with a slight connection to one of my WIPs )
Wow, so that turned into more of a meta post than I'd anticipated.

Misc SG-1 Thoughts
Jun. 8th, 2007 10:49 pmSo, I am bored and avoiding my short story manuscript that I think sucks and is awful and why do I try and I'm not going to submit it and I shouldn't kid myself and I should become a janitor...
Anyway, I was thinking about SG-1 and fandom. As most of you know, I am a die-hard team fan. I'm happiest with team. Yay team! But I do have a Daniel-slant. I like when stories favor Daniel. I like archeaology and anthropology and history, writing, and mythology. This has nothing to do with the fact I have degrees in archeaology and anthropology that focused on mythology, writing, and history ;)
It's only natural. I get Daniel because he has the same interests as I do. I'm more like Sam, and I get Sam because I'm also a science buff. I gravitate to fandom stories that have a Daniel-slant or a Daniel and Sam slant. I also strongly strongly favor fiction with a Daniel and Jack slant. Go Jack and Daniel friendship! Team is always central. It trumps everything. It's very much like what I enjoy from the show. However, I am nothing like Jack or Teal'c. At all.
Which naturally means Jack and Teal'c are my fave characters to write. It makes no sense.
It's true. When it comes to writing, I am a Jack nut. I love to write Jack. I also love to write Teal'c. You will often see me ranting and raving over Jack this and Jack that. Total Jack fangirl when it comes to writing.
Total Daniel fangirl when it comes to reading. (But goodness, the fic burns!)
Total team fan overall. I get testy if I see Sam or Teal'c get wallpapered in a fic without good reason
So hmm. It just amuses me.
On that note, I'll do that five favorite episodes for the characters thingy that is on LJ. Mind you, my thoughts change on a daily basis so these aren't set in stone.
( Five Favorite Jack Episodes )
( Five Favorite Daniel Episodes )
( Five Favorite Sam Episodes )

SG-1 S10: Talion and Family Ties
Jun. 8th, 2007 09:05 pmI finally watched last week's episode before I watched this week's episode. Here are my brief thoughts on them.
( Talion )
( Family Ties )
( Talion )
( Family Ties )
Since the show is coming to a close very soon, I thought I'd look back at the fandom a bit. These are some of my feelings on the SG-1 fandom. It's not everything I think and feel, but they are important points. My involvement as definitely lessened over time and will likely continue to lessen due to my original fic commitments. Yet, at the same time I know I won't be leaving completely. Not right now, anyway.
( Ten Things I Will Not Apologize For in SG-1 Fandom )
SG-1 has been great. I still love it and I always will. And yay for the net so it can continue to live on :)

Week of TV in Review
May. 18th, 2007 09:06 pmOkay, well here are my thoughts on the shows I watched this week.
( 24 )
( Smallville: Phantom )
( Supernatural: All Hell Breaks Loose Pt 2 )
( SG-1: Bounty )
( SG-1: Bad Guys )
In other weekly news, I'm still plodding with my S/D Fic and think I'll settle on idea number 2 since idea 1 will take forever for me to finish.
I'm also thinking of putting some of my ideas/half finished stories up for adoption. Some I am keeping to finish myself, but some fanfic I know I'll never get to. We'll see.
And I also got another poem published. Yay!

Weird SG-1 Dream: Taking the Team Too Far?
May. 3rd, 2007 07:57 amOh yeah. I had another one. Not going to mention the one from the other night, but the SG-1 dreams keep coming. Incidentally, this one was a followup to a MacGyver dream and that...made NO sense. Alas, no porn.

SG-1" "The Road Not Taken" and IM notice
May. 1st, 2007 07:25 pmFinally, I am awake enough to post some thoughts. And I'm procrastinating so...
( The Road Not Taken, Sam, and Why Landry is Good SGC Choice )
Oh, and btw,
6beforelunch's post reminds me that I don't talk to my flist enough. If you are ever bored, please feel free to IM me -- Essieliv -- anytime if you have AIM and you see me online. I love to talk, especially about SG-1 and writing. (But I'll chat about anything.)

SG-1 10x12: Line in the Sand
Apr. 21st, 2007 05:06 pmI've been avoiding LJ because I couldn't watch this episode until today. It's bad enough people spoiled me a bit for this episode before so I didn't want to make it worse by venturing out last night. But at least now I have seen it.

New SG-1 Community
Apr. 15th, 2007 04:52 pmI went and made a new community. God knows if it conflicts with anything in the second half of Season 10, but that's not the point.
Every since Season 9's Avalon aired, we've been given parallels between SG-1 and The Knights of the Round Table. Heroic, courageous, and even a little foolhearty and tragic -- these are qualities shared by the the Knights and the members of SG-1.
What if SG-1 had traveled back in time and literally became some of the Knights of the Round table?
Come join us in exploring -- literally or metaphorically -- SG-1 as the Knights of the Round.
sg1_knights
I'm big into low maintenance communities (as can be seen by my woefully inactive comms *sniff*), so I've very much a person who feels come, play, have fun, and be nice :)
I'm still working on the layout, but here it is for anyone interested.

What Kind of Fan Am I? (SG-1)
Apr. 12th, 2007 05:30 pmI know I've been a little quiet for the past few days. I've had a lot of my mind, both fannishly and in real life. And despite my fandom epiphany the other day, I'm sort of feeling very alone in the fandom (and in real life).
But that's a different story for another day.
Though, just because I am feeling a little curious today, I thought I would ask my flist some fannish questions. I tend to have various personas or reputations, it seems. So I wonder, what kind of fan do you see me as? When you think of SG-1 what character do you associate me with? This doesn't mean the way I see myself or the way you think I see myself. Maybe I'm a closet Martouf fan and never knew, but you've seen it all along.
And don't be afraid to give your opinion. There is no right or wrong answer and I won't be offended. Feel free to do the same on your journals as well.
We all see ourselves a certain way, but I was wondering, how do you see me?
( What Kind of Character Fan Am I to You? )
( What Kind of Ship/Slash Fan Am I to You? )
( What Kind of Team Fan Am I to You? )
I'll tell you what kind of fan I think I am later. I'm curious to see how right (or wrong) I might be ;)
But that's a different story for another day.
