Celebrating Finale Week: TEAL'C
Jun. 20th, 2007 07:35 amAh, Teal'c.
Ex-Prime of Apohpis, one of the leaders of the Jaffa, warrior, father, friend.
Over the years, Teal'c has shown many sides. When he first joined SG-1, he was reserved both in manner and in speech. As the years passed, he become more open about his passions, his fears, and his goals, while his latent sense of humor emerged. Teal'c grew more and more comfortable on Earth and found himself in a difficult position as he become identified more with the Tau'ri than the Jaffa.
Yet, Teal'c never abandoned his cause and he still fights for his people. Only now, "his people" are both the Tau'ri and the Jaffa.
So, what do you love about Teal'c?
--------------------------------
Possible topics:
*What is your fave Teal'c episode?
*What is your face Teal'c line? (God, there are so many of them.)
*Why do you think Teal'c decided to stay with the Tau'ri over the free Jaffa?
*Write a ficlet or a drabble with the prompts "honor" or "smile."
*Post an icon with the theme fighter.
*If you could describe Teal'c in one word, what would it be?
*If Teal'c had the chance to change one thing in his life over the years, what do you think it would be?
Feel free to post ficlets, drabbles, links, pictures, icons, or any other discussion to celebrate Teal'c.
And remember to share the love and join in celebrating Jack, Daniel, and Sam.

Date: 2007-06-20 02:41 pm (UTC)Favorite defining-Teal'c fics: Almost a Statesman (http://katiefic.shriftweb.org/Stories/Statesman.html) by Katie M. and Teal'c's Five Favorite Board Games (http://paian.livejournal.com/59106.html?format=light) by Komos.
Favorite Teal'c episodes: COTG (sheer courage), Cor-Ai (sheer honor), Changeling (sheer stubbornness), Orpheus (sheer strength), Avatar (a Jaffa is only as strong as his friendships).
Some random favorite Teal'c lines, because nearly everything he says is solid gold:
"Undomesticated equines could not remove me."
"Ours is the only reality of consequence."
Urgo: "I didn't mean to."
Jack, Daniel, and Sam: "He didn't mean to."
Teal'c: "That was not his intention."
"He is concealing something."
"Like what?"
"I am unsure. He is concealing it."
"I choose freedom!"
"How'd you learn to drive?"
"Daniel Jackson instructed me."
"Oh? When was that?"
"I believe the year was 1969."
Some favorite Teal'c moments:
His rather pitiful attempt to smile encouragingly in First Commandment, contrasted with his gentle touch with Cassandra in Singularity.
Casually choking the guy in Prisoners, while Daniel tentatively suggests, "Teal'c, I think he's had enough."
His first conversation with Michael on the bus. "The war with... Canada."
His apprehension at parachuting out of the plane in Watergate, until Jack has to shove him out the door.
The fun he was having in Tangent before everything went wonky, and the quiet moment when he suggested they turn off the radio to save power.
His amazing speech at Daniel's bedside in Meridian, and the moment in Revelations when he concedes that, like Sam, he'd rather have Daniel back.
Fiercely guarding his ice cream from Jack's spoon (saw just that clip, hee!)
The expression on his face when an excited Daniel comes tumbling into his room in Fallen, and asks where Sha're is now.
His "interview" with Bregman (intimidating as only Teal'c can be through utter silence!), and the moving suggestion to Sam of what Janet's greatest tribute could be.
Jack. Teal'c. Lost City. 'Nuff said.
There's lots more, but I'll some squee for someone else. :)

Teal'c: "That was not his intention."
Priceless delivery! Teal'c was always very funny. I love him when he's funny!

Date: 2007-06-20 02:27 pm (UTC)"Undomesticated equines could not remove me."
"The only reality of any consequence is ours."
"Are you suggesting an alien conspiracy?"
"There is little to say, O'Neill. We have fought and won many battles together. It has been an honour to serve the Tau'ri by your side. We are brothers."
Will probably be back with actual thoughts later.

Date: 2007-06-20 02:52 pm (UTC)He doesn't say much, but what he says has a lasting impact--either he cracks the perfect joke (most often without realizing it), or he comforts various members of the team in a way only someone who weighs their words carefully can.
I love Teal'c because even though he's seen the worst, he still believes that what he wants more than anything is possible--even if he personally fails.

Date: 2007-06-20 03:02 pm (UTC)I love the bit in, um... Smoke and Mirrors?... when he's interrogating someone merely by crossing his arms, looking deadly, and leaning forwards a bit. He's so cool.
And his disappointed look in Chimera when Jack rejects his offer of donuts! *pets him*
And the tentative way he puts his arms around Sam, when she's losing it in Paradise Lost. Aww.
I love that I found him difficult to write, at first, and that forced me to try a little harder to make him interesting to read. I'm glad I did try, because I do enjoy writing Teal'c POV, even though I don't do it much, or for long (long, sustained Teal'c POV is still beyond me).
I love that they worked on the character - he was arguably pretty one-dimensional at first - and built him up so that he doesn't need to say anything. He's become very expressive, funny, menacing, all without words. And yet, when he does talk, he can give these rousing speeches... and be funny in as few words as possible... and cut right to the heart of things.
And I love the icon of him, around somewhere, that says "I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am." :)
In conclusion: Teal'c ROCKS.

Date: 2007-06-20 04:00 pm (UTC)Hands down, number one is the Jaffa Joke. I still laugh like a crazy person whenever I see it. It's the only time we see Teal's laughing out loud and I love it. Besides, the joke was funny.
Lost City: Teal'c and Jack. My heart still breaks when I see that.
Forever in a Day: All of it. The pain for Daniel he felt was so evident that he didn't have to shed a tear for you to know he was crying inside.
Season Six: He took Jonas under his wing when everyone else was trying hard to ignore him. How sweet, how tender.
Ok, I could go on, but you get the picture. I love Teal'c.
Love him, love him, love him.

Date: 2007-06-20 07:58 pm (UTC)Gets me every time. :-)
Also. "He is concealing something."
"What?"
"I am unsure. He is concealing it."
And no one's informed Teal'c that ice cream is frozen bovine lactose. I love that scene in "Unnatural Selection."
I love the scene in Orpheus where he reveals to Daniel what he did for him as ascended, which is why he will be forever grateful Aw!
And that scene with Jack in Lost City
And...and...
Happy thoughts as I go to nap again. :-)

Date: 2007-06-21 06:38 am (UTC)What's the name of the one where he was a firefighter? See, bad with names. That's one of my favorite episodes of his.
The team kidding him about the goatee! Something crawling on his face. Gah.

Date: 2007-06-21 01:01 pm (UTC)I think his teammates rely on him and lean on him. He supports them. He needs those broad shoulders, man, they're carrying a lot of weight.
I also like that he was shown as a father and a husband early on. His relationship with Rya'c doesn't get a lot of attention, but it is there and the show would be weaker without it.
Favorite Teal'c episodes? Changeling is probably one of the best in terms of character exploration. Threshold, because it gave us his background. Birthright and Sacrifices too.
Oh Teal'c. He gets so ignored by fandom and yet he is so awesome.
