Celebrating Finale Week: SAM
Jun. 19th, 2007 07:51 amSam Carter.
Both a brilliant scientist and a military officer, Sam is constantly walking the line that separates the two. In her early days on the team, she was often the half-way point between Jack and Daniel, a mediator of sorts, as their respective points of view clashed. Since then, she's grown from a wide-eyed, good-natured, but ofen uptight soldier, to a more relaxed mature woman who is more comfortable with herself and can take control of the situation, if necessary.
Like her teammates, she is there for those she loves. She has been known to struggle with dettachment/attachment within the military mindset which clashes with her caring nature, but she's always there, looking out for those she cares about.
So why do you love Sam Carter?

Date: 2007-06-19 01:07 pm (UTC)I love Sam. But I think I love her most when she the protective veneer of perfection she and others coat her in slips. The veneer, for me, came when she joined the AF and people had no clue what to do with her brains. She also ran into sexism, nepotism claims, etc and the best way she found to smother all of that was to simply be the best.
But her boys (and they are *her* boys) just loved her making the veneer unnecessary so she let her anger and her happiness and grief show. And she cracked jokes (and I bet a lot of them were dirty), wore lip gloss, pontificated on why Lucky Charms was the perfect dinner food, bought Teal'c porn as a joke, and still managed to kick ass and save the world.
Favorite Episodes: Grace, Singularity, New Order, Line in the Sand, oh and bunches of others.

Hee! Go Sam!

Date: 2007-06-19 02:22 pm (UTC)AT had an interview around the time of the 200 celebrations where she talked about how she grew up on the show and that a lot of growing up happens when you reach your 30s. She felt like she had grown up and that Carter had as well. I think I would agree with that. I think we've seen the character grow more confident, more mature, more well rounded.
It didn't occur to me until I started writing this post (because I'm kinda slow), but they stood convention on it's head a little bit with the Sam character. It's not always typical to have the woman be the pure scientist and the intellectual lead. That's a nice twist.
She's smart, she's strong, she's able to take care of herself and defend herself. She's a pretty good role model for girls. I like that.

She is just really a solid character.

Date: 2007-06-19 05:39 pm (UTC)"this is fun for me, sir."
"It's in mine, sir."
Teal'c: I am in your debt, Major Carter.
Carter: (grinning) Indeed.
"Could you at least pretend to be listening?" (but the backrub later, aw).
I know some people don't like it, but I love Sam in Affinity getting all worked up because of her "pete proposed" angst and everyone looking at her and she's like. "What? We were talking about Teal'c's girlfriend, right?" And Daniel's like "I thought we were." Hee hee hee.
Her rant in Orpheus about a cheesy sci fi flick. "Don't you want to see if they even get any of it right?"
"And I make a mean souffle."
Janet: This nice cake that Sam baked.
Sam: Bought.
Janet: Brought.
"Welcome to my life."
Her tearful goodbye to Daniel in Meridian which I'm not looking up because...it'll make me cry.
"Not that way...we were just, really good friends."
"Blow up one sun, and all of a sudden people think you can walk on water."

Date: 2007-06-19 05:41 pm (UTC)We risk our lives and try and get a bunch of alien technology blah blah.
Daniel: And if you just happen to win a race?
Carter: (shrugging innocently) What's a girl to do?
(I'd really like "Space Race" if it wasn't for those annoying announcers and cheesy racer because Sam rocked!)

Date: 2007-06-19 09:41 pm (UTC)I like all the ones you've listedn, but I know there's more...
I'm actually really fond of that card scene from Uninvited this year. When she and Teal'c were playing and she won. That was just too cute.

Date: 2007-06-19 10:45 pm (UTC)I love all those episodes, but I think my favorite has to be Foothold. Sam shows her resourcefulness in getting out of the mountain, her strength in believing her own perceptions, and not the lies she's being told and her fearlessness in doing something about it. She recognizes fake Jack, and doesn't hesitate in shooting him. She doesn't worry about protocol when Maybourne lets her down and betrays the mountain because of his short sightedness. She shows that the safety of the SGC and by extension Earth is far more important to her than risk of court martial. Not to mention, it has one of the best Sam lines ever "Maybourne, you're an idiot every day of the week, couldn't you have taken just one day off."
