Fandoms

I was scrolling through some old posts on my various fandoms.

I miss it :(

Man, was I into fandom or what? Art, fic, discussion, and pure squee. Even then, I wasn't as obsessed and post-happy as others. Do I even do any of that now? I'm so crazy busy.

But man. The Smallville days. Mocking the cwazies. Squeeing over my favorite superhero pairing. Looking to see if each new episode would bring us closer to Superman or make me angry. I learned that there are so many other awesome people out there that love Superman and its mythos like I do.

Then there was SG-1. SO. MUCH. FIC. SG-1 was the fandom where I learned so much. This is where I made my first icons, banners, and wallpaper. I really tested and experimented in my writing and showed it to the world for the first time. I met a lot of fantastic people, and I learned a lot of hard lessons.

And last but not least, Supernatural. Still my fave show. Still excited and squeeful, even if I don't share it very often. (Even to [livejournal.com profile] meg_tdj.) While the overall strength and quality of the show is not what it used to be, particularly in the overarching story arcs, antagonists, and consistency, it's still stronger than I'd expect at its age with top-notch acting and interesting hooks. I'm proud to still call it my fave show. I wish some of my other fave shows had been this strong and enjoyable when they were in Season 8. I've never been as active in fandom, though, likely due to my past experiences in prior fandoms and because I'm in a different place in my life. Still, I miss the squee and the chat and the fun of being immersed in fandom just the same.

I think sometimes about my other interests, too. How I would love to get more invested in Dark Angel as the fandom is more fun than the show itself. I miss X-Files something fierce, and I think back how it used to be my fave TV show ever, until SPN came along. How fun it was to play with Lost theories and pray my fave characters wouldn't die. Then, of course, Star Wars, which will always have a special place in my heart as I was obsessed with it for so long before it was tainted by some bad experiences and the prequels, which I did not enjoy as much. We'll see what the future holds.

I do miss it all and wish I could reclaim it, if not just a little bit. Maybe I can win that part of me back somehow and adapt it to the person I am now.

Just my random thoughts. What about the rest of you?

A few thoughts on tonight's episode, a bit about Smallville, and then I have a mention of the preview for next week's SPN on a separate cut.

Onto Smallville )

One quick word on the preview for next week's Supernatural... )

Supernatural's back in the saddle again!

I loved the episode last night. Right now I am debating whether I am going to post my thoughts or not. I'm pretty satisfied and I've been babbling all day with [livejournal.com profile] meg_tdj about it, but I'll see if I can compose my thoughts enough to actually post about it. Suffice it to say, Kerri is pleased *grins*

Wish I could say the same about Smallville, which was pretty stinky last night, but at least it had some memorable moments.
moonshayde: (Rock On)
I know I haven't said boo about it, but I am totally in love with SPN this season. I'm talking eleventy1 and all.

Is it perfect? No, of course not. But I'm having a blast and that is all that is important. (ME ME ME ME ME.)

How do I love thee? )
moonshayde: (Chimmy)
So, rumor has it that Chloe Sullivan from Smallville might be entering the DC Comics. They've tried before, but it never happened, and now rumors are circulating again.

Looks like they'll change her past a bit to make her work for the comics, but keep her personality and she'll be tied to Jimmy Olsen in some way. Friendship? Mentor? Romantic? I don't know, but I like Chloe/Jimmy (even if SV Jimmy didn't end up being THE Jimmy) and I hope they write a cool, cute, and quirky romance between the two. Yay Chimmy!

Smallville Comic Con panel is underway. While I don't mind SV spoilers, I think I am going to pass on watching it because I'll inevitably stay around for Supernatural, and I don't want to be spoiled at all with that one. (Please flist, DON'T SPOIL ME ON SPN!) I'll have to catch up in a few months, but I'm sure it'll be fun. Jared, Jensen, Jim, and Misha will be there. I have some SV friends over at Comic-Con this weekend and I'm sure I'll get the scoop from them. I've already heard some casting spoilers and I'm excited. Here's hoping Erica Durance gets 22 eps this year and that the final season of Smallville is awesome!

I think that's tonight's episode name...

I'm going to post some of my thoughts here on my LJ since many people at k-site are being assholes.

That Smallville and Supernatural have been renewed for a tenth and sixth season, respectively.

Now, it's not official, so take it with a grain of salt, but one online venue called CinemaSpy is reporting this as a done deal.

This claim is bolstered by the fact that Smallvile has been building new sets (supposedly) and Supernatural's creator, Eric Kripke, has been talking about potential storylines for Season 6. Plus Dawn O., who has a history of not really caring for either show, has gone on the record recently with positive statements on both shows.

Also in the shows' favor is Supernatural recent win at earning a People's Choice Award for Best Scifi/Fantasy Show and Smallville's continued success on the CW in the death zone of Friday night.

I'll wait for an official release. There are always unexpected factors that can cause a show to get canned, even when everything seems fine. Though, at this point, it seems more likely than not.

And [livejournal.com profile] meg_tdj ? They are also reporting Jason Momoa got the Conan gig ;)

ETA: CW has slammed down the reports of renewals. Told you to take it with a grain of salt ;) But I think they have a good chance of renewal anyway.

I haven't made wallpaper in forever. It's never been my forte but I felt inclinded to make some this weekend. Man, if only I could get ideas for Supernatural.

Anyway, I have icons coming up eventually for both Smallville and Supernatural. For now, I'm just posting the walls. Feel free to take if you'd like. Maybe eventually I'll get around to posting them elsewhere. But I'm pretty lazy, LOL.

BTW, the second wall is 1280 x1024. The others are your typical size 1024 x768.

They are Clark/Lois Walls.

Just placed it under a cut in case people haven't seen the episode yet )

Anyone know where I can find Rabid screencaps from Smallville? I haven't been compelled to make icons for SV in a long time, but there were scenes that nearly moved me to tears last night and I want to make art. Thanks :)
moonshayde: (C.K.)
After the behavior I just saw on Twitter today, I am appalled. Seriously. These are the days I am ashamed to be associated with you. You make me and other fans (whether they are Clark, Chloe, Lois, Oliver fans, etc.) look bad. Disgusting.
moonshayde: (Clark Heat Vision)
This is going to be like my briefest review ever, LOL.

Wow, is everything down this morning?

Blantantly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] meg_tdj:

Question for fanfic writers: In your chosen fandom(s), which characters do you find the hardest and the easiest to write?

So I give you: Supernatural, SG-1, Smallville, and Dark Angel.

SPN

I find writing for this fandom to be HARD. It doesn't stop me, but sometimes I get emo and think I should. I think Dean is probably my strongest character. Most of the time I believe I get his dialogue and attitude right, and since I heavily idenitfy with his good AND bad qualities, I think I get into his head pretty well. But I can be hit and miss with him, too.

I default to Sam a lot because I find him more focused and serious than Dean. Plus, I like to write reactions to Dean which is easier from another point of view. Plus, I enjoy it. I have had trouble writing him in S4 because of the direction the show took, but once we got in his head the second half of the season it was a little easier. However, I honestly don't think I write him correctly half the time and it annoys me to no end. I have his research side down, but I seem to fail at his subtle digs and word plays. I get so angry about it sometimes I just want to be super emo and quit, LOL. I wish I could write him better.

Bobby and John have been hit or miss for me, though I've never written Bobby's pov (yet, though I have some planned) and I think I wrote John's pov once. But I have had them in stories, as I have Jo, Bela, Castiel, and Ruby. I think I do okay with them, but I haven't written them enough or long enough to really have an idea how well I write them.

SG-1

Daniel is usually my default, but that doesn't mean he's the easiest to write for me. He's in my field so I get that aspect of him and he's sympathetic in many ways, but I'm not the strongest with his snark. I really have to work for it. Sam is similar. I'm a lot like Sam, and I can do her technobabble just fine, but I have a harder time writing her because the show often made her an emotional mess. I liked her better when she was fresh and green and excited in the early seasons. I found her easier to write.

My easiest to write? The two that are NOT like me. At least not that I can see. I find Jack the easiest and I adore writing him. And I've had so much fun writing Teal'c that it isn't funny. Those two brought me a lot of fannish joy.

Smallville

I haven't written much SV fic, but I always write Clark. So far, anyway. I find he is a nice stable character and I can relate to his morals and good-nature. Plus, I'm an idealist. I especially like writing banter between him and Lois. Lois is a blast to write, but I've never done her pov. I seem more comfortable with being on Clark's side.

Dark Angel

I've only written a few, but it's no surprise that I adore Alec. Yet, I also find him hard to write. I find Max the hardest, and I haven't even attempted the other characters like Original Cindy, Logan, and Sketchy. The easiest? I was surprised that it was Joshua. I feel like I write Joshua best. But maybe that's just in my head. I've had a lot of positive feedback on the few stories I've written in this fandom, including requests for novels and long-fic. Maybe that's what happens when I fandom gets old. I know that from a writer's standpoint, this fandom could easily suck me in because there is so much to explore. I fight it everyday.

So that's that. I've written for some other shows, but these are the top ones. I find it interesting that sometimes the character least like me I wrote the best, but sometimes the characters most like me I wrote the best. So there isn't an answer that covers everything. It's all about context, the characters themselves, and the atmopshere of the show.

What about you?
moonshayde: (Lane and Kent)
I'm a spoilerwhore for SV so I went and watched the trailer they showed at Comic Con. I always have to be careful though, since I am a spoilerphobe for SPN and often info on the two tend to cross.

Anyway, onto my speculation for S9...

I know I've said this before, but I don't think I'm going to post at K-Site anymore. I keep trying, but there is no way to have a decent conversation over there.

I have been loving the posts here on LJ by [livejournal.com profile] jeannev and [livejournal.com profile] cloiser_trish, though. So nice to see some of the best of Clark and Tom Welling out there :)
moonshayde: (Clark Heat Vision)
Well, I finally feel like discussing some of my thoughts on the season finale of Smallville and the season in general. It's not the most positive review, so I wanted to warn you ahead of time.

Well, I think I read 90% of my flist's thoughts on Smallville, Lost, and Supernatural. I'll post mine this weekend. I couldn't really post on everyone's LJ, but I did read. I'm just really fatigued right now. You all had interesting thoughts. I think I agreed with most of you.
moonshayde: (No Way)
Supernatural got renewed!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!

Smallville got renewed! WOOHOO!!!!! (I think? Please don't suck...)

I smell cliffhangers in our future...

Well, in my opinion ;)

So I guess they've cast the kid who played Sam Winchester in S1's "Something Wicked" as SV Casting Spoiler )

BWAHAHAHAHA.
moonshayde: (Default)
These are just some thoughts on these two shows since I mostly caught up on them today. These are the two shows I've been considering dropping, so if you are very sensitive to them, you might not want to read. Especially the Sanctuary one.

Fringe )

Sanctuary )

I'm kind of cranky this week, so I've passed on reading reactions to SV's "Legion" and SPN's "Family Remains" on LJ. (I made the mistake and looking at "Legion" reviews on the boards. I loved them both, but I don't want anyone harshing any squee that I have left *clings*
