Supernatural 6x15: The French Mistake

A few thoughts on tonight's episode, a bit about Smallville, and then I have a mention of the preview for next week's SPN on a separate cut.
Oh man. This was 1 of 2 episodes I was semi-spoiled for, so I was really curious how they would manage this one. I was so presently surprised!
I loved it. I don't even know where to begin. Jared and Jensen play Sam and Dean playing Jared and Jensen playing Sam and Dean. HEE.
I loved how vain and awful Jared and Jensen in this "world" are and how much they hated each other, given that the actors are BFFs and are fairly down to earth. Jensen never went to Jared's house? *snort" Jensen *lived* in Jared's house for a while in reality, LOL. Misha as a character was hilarious and the real Misha even posted what the character Misha posted on his twitter:
"Ola mishamigos! J2 got me good. Really starting to feel like one of the guys."
But I guess what really got me is how they took the meta-iest episode ever and made it totally work as a plot. I bought it. I could see the angels creating something like this as a distraction. And it ended up being mytharc heavy in the end.
And I got to see Eric Brady!
Kudos to Gen for coming back to poke fun at herself. Gotta love Dean's line: "You married fake Ruby!"
The Impalas. "Drugs." The mention of how bad the names Misha and Jensen are. Hahaha.
Anyway, really I could go on forever but I'm tired and wouldn't make sense. It was awesome. AWESOME.
This was a filler ep if I ever saw one. Parts of it were funny. My mom and I were laughing at the Lois and Oliver parts. And Clark was good. But overall? Seemed like a waste. Not sure I'll ever get Hartley in drag out of my head again, heh heh.
The trailer was awesome. So creepy and wtf? It really reminds me of the X-Files episode Ice, which is one of my faves of the XF series. I hope this SPN episode is just as awesome. I can't wait for next week! *bounces* I don't know anything about it, but please be even half as good as my imagination!

Date: 2011-02-26 04:07 pm (UTC)Was I the only who REALLY wanted the YouTube clip to be from "Smallville"? I mean, it was funny because Dean would be completely horrified to think that he was once in a soap opera. But I think it would be so funny to have Jared say, "Oh, look, you were on some Superman show." And have Jensen go (all excited), "I played SUPERMAN? Awesome." And then Jared says, "No... um. Someone else named Tom Welling plays Superman. You... uh... you didn't get the part. But you were ON it. For... um... one season."
I wonder if the CW wouldn't let them do that?
I also completely agree with your thoughts on SV. That was the biggest filler episode that SV has ever had. How long was Clark even onscreen? What was the impact on his story? (None.) Lois's doubts weren't even addressed in a satisfactory way. I do think that the Lois/Oliver scenes were really funny, but - at this late of a stage - is this what we should be focusing on? Wouldn't this sort of focus been better back in S6 or S7?

Date: 2011-02-26 04:38 pm (UTC)I know. The lack of Clark was glaringly obvious, but what we had was good. Though, really, I don't tune into SV to watch the characters drunk. That doesn't have much appeal to me.
I love Lois/Oliver. The two sparkle together. But a lot of what we've gotten lately (past couple of seasons) would have been great in S6 and S7. I agree with you there. But I loved the Lois and Clark stuff, too. And Clark's proclamation about Lois being the love of his life was really sweet.
The show is obviously just stalling until we get to the very end. It's too bad because I still think they could have had an amazingly strong final season with plot.
Supernatural:
This show, so far, is the best I've seen when it comes to doing meta episodes. 9 out of 10 times they manage to pull it off. Not just pull it off, but make it work in ways that leave me amazed. I don't say this just as a fan. I adored X-Files when it aired and I don't think they did as good of a job as SPN does when it comes to eps like this.
I would have LOVED a Smallville shout out. You know Dean would have been so excited at the thought of playing Superman - and Jensen had been considered for the role, right? - and then to learn he was just some nobody? LOL
The soap thing was funny, though. I used to watch Days when I was a kid. I stopped right before Jensen came on. So it amuses me ;)
Thanks for popping by. It's great to be able to talk to you about BOTH SV and SPN :)

Date: 2011-02-26 05:07 pm (UTC)Of course, the Welling fan in me would have loved to see Jared pull up Welling's picture and go, "HE got the part. And... gotta admit, Dean, he's better looking than you." And have Jensen react to Welling's picture and then they make a comment about how google says that they're friends.
It was such a wasted opportunity. But what they gave us is still so awesome.
You're so right about the stalling. And it's so sad, because I feel like there is still so much more of Clark's story to tell. (How about an entire episode about him going undercover to write a story about a corrupt mayor?) And, instead, we're treated to this sort of filler (which probably let the cast have a blast, but that's about it) and episodes about Tess finding out she's a Luthor.

Yeah... Could've done without that. :D
And I got to see Eric Brady!
Yay! Again! I would've preferred seeing him with Greta, though. I liked that pairing. ;)
