Dear Flist

Taking a page out of [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2's book...

I've actually wanted to do this for a while, but now that [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2 has done it, I can be a lemming instead :)

While my flist is not ginormous, it's pretty big and I don't get to talk to half as many people as I would like. Most of the time it's because I'm really bogged down with RL stuff, but sometimes it's because I don't know you very well and I'm a little too shy to just start posting whatever all over your space.

I also wonder, like [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2 whether people are just here for fic or basic fandom and don't want to move into a "friendship" or if there are people on my flist that really would like to chat? If you're just here for fic, that's cool. I have no problem with that, though I don't write as much as I used to. But if you're looking for more and I haven't been talking to you much, I'd love to know. Actually, I enjoy meeting new people and talking about a range of things, so if I know you're open to various discussions, then I'll be more inclined to do so if I know that I'm not bugging you.

Also, the nature of fandoms are ever changing. We move onto to new stuff, we hold onto the old, and we develop new opinions and interests. Maybe some of you are here because you feel bad about defriending. Maybe some of you don't know me very well and are too shy. Maybe some of you are new and we haven't really had a chance to talk yet.

I ask because I go through the same thing. Sometimes I wonder if I should comment or not. And there are some people I've drifted away from fannishly. I wonder if people would feel weird if I started engaging them in a more personal or friendly manner or if people would rather keep it "strictly professional." And if I feel that way, I'm sure others do as well.

So in this post, please feel free to reintroduce yourself. Feel free to tell me to please go away or to talk more or to post on your LJs. Really. Or if you feel the need to take me off your flist, no hard feelings. (Unless I've like known you for a long time and we've talked alot, then *sniff* but I know people change.)

Or just go about your own business.

I just like to talk is all ;)

Yay, I'm a trendsetter! Although I think your post is actually rather more eloquent than mine. :)

Well, I think after that, you already know that you're entirely welcome (but hardly obligated) to come and chat with me as you like. But here I am popping in to wave hello, anyway!

You are a trendsetter!

So now we know we can both pop by and say hello anytime!

And you can hold my hand as I finish up FS S4 and hit the PKW miniseries. Ack!

Let's see. You were the catalyst that got me to sign up on lj after [livejournal.com profile] aizjanika's nagging. You let me snurch my very first icon. I email or chat with you at least twice a week.

So you know. Barely known fandom acquaintance. :-) *hugs* Thanks for introducing me to a totally cool region of fandom and for being an all around cool gal!

Well, I am definitely open to being bothered on IM whenever I'm on. About anything. I mean...anything I know something about. Just in case you ever wanted to talk. Which you might not. But that's okay, too. ;-)

Also, I totally missed your Lost post. Sadly, I'm a cliche and *like* Jack and Kate and even Sawyer sometimes, in an evil-character-liking way, but...it gets stranger as you watch!

Hey Lady! I've been an utter lump when it comes to commenting most of the time, but y'know I originally came for the fic and the fandom companionship. I stay for the friendship, the fic, and the fandoms. Posting is always welcome on my LJ - agreement, disagreement, just plain ol' different opinion, or simple hello, I likes and welcome it! :)

Speaking of, Ark of Truth - you did a write up on it didn't you? I only just got to see it this morning so I've been doing my best to stay spoiler free but I can reads it now. :)

When I'm super-busy or sick or stressed, I'll miss LJ posts and only comment if it's really important when I go skimming backwards, but other than that I'm cool with anything anyone posts, and enjoy chatting, and try like heck to not be too shy or insecure to do so as long as I have something to contribute. So post away.

Well as you can see, I haven't been geeking out about Stargate anywhere near how I used to. That's not to say that I won't in the future, but right now, the ninja turtles have pretty much taken over. I know it's pretty clear out of nowhere, but I've always felt that you appreciate fandom for what it is and accept that people get obsessed over various things. At the core though, we're geeks, and it's comforting that we understand each other.

When we post about fandoms that the other isn't into, I figure the other just glosses over those posts. Like I doubt you read my NASCAR posts, and my NASCAR peeps don't read my sci fi posts. That's to be expected. I do enjoy your personal posts and hope we keep up with each other that way too.

Cool. And indeed. That is the nature of fandom. We jump back and forth, and go with the flow of fandom.

Thanks for the input :) I hope you're enjoying your TMNT. I always loved Leonardo the best :)

Okay, hello, I'm Barbara, and I'm new-ish. I enjoy LJ for both fandom and personal, although I tend to post fannish things more than personal. And even then, it tends to be photos or happy news. This mostly comes from the fact that I don't really share the negative things in my life with people, even in RL. My husband and I tend to be pretty private -- even co-workers and people at church are generally unaware when things are bad. Family is our source of support, rather than LJ.

I do like it when people comment on my LJ for whatever reason. And not everyone comments on the same things, or much at all. And that's fine.

I will definitely read all of your fannish posts when they are fandoms I follow, and I try to comment if I have something to say. I will likely read your personal posts, too, and offer support or thoughts when I can.

This is awesome. I am so glad you have that outlet :)

I'm trying to comment more, so I want to taregt the people that actually are welcoming to it. Sometimes people are more lurker oriented and there is nothing wrong with that.

Thanks!

Since I have fallen so spectacularly out of the habit of recording just about anything over the past year or two, I have recently resolved to start commenting in others journals more as kind of training to get back in the habit of updating my own LJ account more than once a month, or six.

I should be happy to get to know you beyond your fiction, which is what brought me to your journal in the first place. When I do start posting more, it is possible that there may actually be something available for a person to have a response to. :)

Ahem.

Hello there! I'm quite new to this whole LJ thing, only since December last year but this place is definitely my favourite hangout so far. :D

We have the same love for everything Superman, and I think that's good enough reason for us to be friends forever. :p And I find your RL posts to be very insightful, and gain lots of perspectives just by reading how you deal with things and everything.

I do enjoy commenting and comments, fannish discussions are always fun. And you're most welcome to talk on my LJ anytime!

LJ is great. You can surround yourself with people of like mind or you can have a variety. There are comms. You can post scans and fics and art. You can lock entries or go public. I just love how much control you have over your settings.

Superman is the glue that holds the world together, is he not? ;) I enjoy your comics-related posts very much!

And thanks! It's good to know. I'll try to be a bit more active :)

Hi. I've been around for a while and I don't comment nearly as often as I should. That said, I'd love to talk more, and I'm not just saying that because I want you to read my thesis draft and tell me what you think.

Anyway, I like your fic, but that's not why I'm here, really. I like knowing people in fandom, but I also like getting a sense of who people are OUTSIDE fandom, as well. So, um, yes. Good times!

I've read all your posts but I don' comment very often. it might be because I don't know you very well. At the same time, how does one get to know a person if she never says anything? Duh. *smacks head*

Me, I love the whole experience. Fandom inside out. So feel free to talk more and I'll do the same.

And I am looking forward to seeing how your thesis draft comes out! I would be more than happy to look at it. I'm sorry I haven't been able to provide anything thus far on it. Apparently, I am very good at packing away and never ever seeing my stuff again...

I'm here for the fanfic and the friendship, and although I don't always comment, I still read almost everything you blog about... well except maybe for the Smallville posts. I haven't gotten into that fandom yet. :) Supernatural, on the other hand, is definitely on my list to get started on, just as soon as I can justify that expenditure and I'm enjoying the discussions even if I can't participate due to the fact that I don't know what I'm talking about. lol

And, please don't be shy with my journal. Feel free to post whatever you want, whenever you want, all over my LJ. :) I love interesting debates, and if you don't agree with something I've said, please don't hesitate to tell me. I won't bite, I promise!!

hehe You know I'm not here for the fic, right? *g* You're welcome to comment on my LJ any time, of course. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I've always considered you a beyond-fandom friend.

I have you on my flist because I like you and we've known each other a long time (in internet land *g*), and I like to keep up with what you're doing or not doing or whatever is going on. I almost always read all of your posts even if it's about a fandom I don't know and always the personal posts as well.

The only posts I probably don't usually read are the fic, even though I love your writing. It's just that I don't read fic all that often (and I've long since moved on from reading most Stargate fic), and I'm pretty specific about what I want to read when it comes to fic--and it's not always good stories (which yours are), but whatever strikes my fancy in that moment--sometimes things that you would probably consider to be bad!fic. *g* It's really whatever strikes my mood in that exact moment, but mostly I'm not reading fic in any fandom right now.

I also sometimes don't read posts that contain spoilers for an episode I haven't seen yet, if it's a show I'm currently watching or intend to watch, like Farscape. I was so tempted to read your Farscape posts, but for some reason I don't want to be spoiled too much for that show.

Other than that, I read everything else. I don't always comment, but many times I write a comment and then don't post it. *g* Does that count? hehe I probably still comment a lot, though.

You're wrong! WRONG!

Nah. I've known you for quite a long time and we've had some pretty in depth conversations, if I remember correctly.

As for fic, no one is ever obligated to read my fic anyway, so it's not like I expect it from people. Besides, I'm not really writing much fanfic right now anyway. I still want to finish soem outstanding SG-1 stories, though it looks like I won't as more time passes and I have a couple of Superman and SPN related ones I want to do, but may never get to. I'm just too busy and know I have to focus on my own stuff if I am going to ever make it.

And what? You write a comment and then don't post it? What's that about? I just say post it. Not because I am comment hungry, but because how am I supposed to know what you want to say if you don't say it? Come and share! I don't bite. ;)

I started off being in this for the fic, but I also enjoy fannish discussions and the occasional RL-issues conversations. I find myself playing the stereotypical bartender to a lot of people, for some reason. But yes, fandom is fun and now I'm rambling. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I like to talk too, even though I'm not around during "normal" hours a lot. (I'm sleeping or at work most of the day, and then up most of the night. 2) coffee addict (see icon)
3) fandom zombie. No really, it's true.

life:
mostly awesome, could do with more chocolate though...

regarding the f-list:
I like getting to know the people on my list, one can never have too many friends.

why I felt the need to make a list for this:
The world may never know. It's one of the great mysteries of life, rather like tootsie pops and the number 42.
