I have OCD in many, many ways. I've come to accept this about myself and joke about it. Everyone I know is aware of my issues, though I try my hardest not to let it get the best of me.

I realized I have been hoarding something...odd today. It's Easter. I went to church. I got some holy water bottled as is tradition in our church and I went home.

To realize I had bottle holy water from the past 3 years.

Why the heck am I hoarding holy water? Am I waiting for the Apocalypse or something?

How do you get it bottled? Isn't it in a little bowl?

My church gives out little empty bottles. We go to a tank that is filled with holy water and we can fill the bottles.

Wow, really? I've never seen that sort of thing. Is this a Catholic church?

Yup. It's a Catholic church. We've been doing it for quite a few years now.

Oh, I haven't been to a Catholic church for years.

I don't think every Catholic church does it, but I know quite a few do.

We used to get it year round in my house. My bedroom had one of those doohickeys to fill with it so we could be good little girls and always cross ourselves.

That's simple - you're making sure Sam and Dean have plenty at their disposal when they come and rescue you from a demon someday. ;)

On a more serious note - what are you supposed to do with it? Do that, and there you go.

We Catholics are a superstitious lot. It's for blessing things and to have in the house.

Would make sense for me to actually use it though, heh.

lol. I didn't know that was possible. XD
I've always wanted to get some holy water. ;) Just to have it on hand, y'know; in case I need it. :D My bedside lamp's been flickering a lot lately...

It doesn't sound like OCD or hoarding. It just sounds like you're a collector. Albeit, perhaps, an accidental one. ;)

No doubt people look at me oddly when they see me take sugar sachets from cafe/restaurant tables and put them in my bag. I collect 'em. I've got over 150 different types. They'll come in handy when there's a sugar shortage, though I will be sad at having to open them and ruin their quality. :(

Ha, yeah I was just joking about this being an OCD thing. I actually do have OCD. It manifests differently.

That's a a loooooot of sugar.

Three years? That's not hoarding! If you get to 20, maybe you can worry.

Haha.

I was just joking here. I have hoarding tendencies, but nothing too serious. But I do have OCD. I'm mainly a checker. I have it where it's a big enough problem to be noticeable and annoying, but not severe enough where it totally cripples my life.

My daughter asked me the other night why I was late picking her up. I said I didn't know—and then later remembered that it was because I had to stop three times on my way out of the building to check that I had each of
my phone
my wallet
my USB drive
and the faceplate for the radio.

Three times.

I know about checking.

Ah ha. Checker FTW. People don't get it. You can't just stop, even if the rational part of your head tells you to. You have to check it to make sure!

I think with me it's a combination of genetics and learned behavior. My mom was a bit of a checker, but not extensively. I took that to the nth degree.

Sadly, my brother is almost as bad as me.

I have a certain order that I have to check things and I have to say it aloud while I go. If not, I have to start over again.

Maddening.

My parish does that too. Well, they just hand out pre-filled bottles, but I kind of amused myself thinking of Sam and Dean making the rounds on Easter Sunday and walking away with like 100 bottles each. You know, in convenient travel size!

Someone needs to fic that!

But yeah. My church never did it until a few years ago. I think it's a nice idea.

At least you accept it and can joke about it. My husband won't do either. :P

Ooh, Holy Water... maybe something is coming up? *grin*

Heh. I *have* to joke about it or else I'll have a pity party. This is not a real example, but I do have a very real OCD issue when it comes to obsessions and compulsions. (I check things over and over.)

I totally get that. My husband is in complete denial. He needs things to be super clean and organized (even if it's nothing he uses). He has other problems, namely he can't admit when he's wrong. He projects a lot. But yeah, there are times when I have to laugh at things or I'll end up having a pity party. Totally a normal thing to do. :)
