What I am Currently Watching

I've been watching some TV, though not necessarily talking about it. I thought I'd just give a run down of some of the shows I've been watching. I'm not one to watch much TV, so mind you, this isn't all at once. Beware spoilers for anything that has aired, obviously. Many of these I just watch casually from time to time.



Supernatural: Still my favorite show. I don't talk about it much because there's a lot of negativity out there, and I'd rather just be happy. LJ is my place to escape and watching TV is an escape for me. I'd rather just have fun and enjoy myself than get involved in all the arguments out there.

I still think, despite it being its 7th season, the show is high quality. The quality is much higher than other long-running shows I've watched in the past, which says a lot. I understand some people don't like it anymore or say it's showing it's age, but as long as the cast and crew care, the quality is there for me. You can usually tell on a show when the actors have stopped caring and start phoning it in. At least that hasn't happened here. I'll be going back and talking about some of the eps soon. But man. Breaks my heart! *wibble*



Community: This is a good show. My brother watches it, so I watch with him. It reminds me a lot of the show Psych, but parodying things in a different way. The characters are funny, as are the unbelievable situations, and I love the actors and how they deliver their lines. Troy is the best and I can't stop cracking up how the actor plays him. He's naive, but a jock-turned-geek. What's not to love? His scenes with Abed are the best. I can't find any really decent videos with his lines (or Abed's) so this is the closet I could get:

Psych: I've been watching this on Netflix and quite enjoying it. There's a definate tone change between the first seasons versus the later seasons, but I've enjoyed them both. I had actually given this show a try a few years ago, and hated it. Funny how that works.

This the first season I've watched it live, and I admit I am not enjoying it that much. Not at the same level anyway. It has nothing to do with Juliet and Shawn either. I think maybe just watching it as it airs? It's a different experience than watching it whenever I want. So I don't know. I just found it strange that I haven't quite been into it as much as before.



White Collar: I just started watching this one when I have a spare moment and so far it's not bad. I don't have much to say about it just yet aside from the fact I liked the lead guy's eyes! Heh heh.




Once Upon a Time: I've been watching this show since it started. It's certainly not the best show I've seen, and the format is just Lost all over again, but it's enjoyable enough to watch. I'm not sure how long I'll stay with it, but I do like what they are doing with the real world versions of the fairy tale characters enough to have me tune in every week. You can tell it's made for a general audience and that's fine. We'll see where it goes. :)

And that's it for TV. I wanted to go more in depth, but I'm still feeling sick so I am going to stop for now.

I'm loving Supernatural, too. I think it's great--hell, I think all of the recent seasons have been great.

Me too. That doesn't mean I won't criticize a storyarc or an episode. It doesn't mean I love every thing about it. I have nitpicks like everyone else.

It's just when I step back and (a) remember I am not in charge and (b) look at the show in its totality, I can honestly say it's been consistently strong. I've watched many long running shows, shows that have lasted 9-10 seasons. Most are a wreck by now. Supernatural? It repeats some themes, but collectively it is always pushing itself. I admire that. It makes things enjoyable for me as a viewer because I can see the care still going into the show.

I'm really loving SPN too and i don't understand the negativity. I could see where some negativity from season 6 came from (even if i liked that season too with all its imperfections), but now really i don't get it...for me season 7 has been amazing so far. And like you said it's rare that a tv show on the air for so long is still so damn entartaining.

Also i'm watching Once Upon a Time too...it's good in my opinion, yeah not the best show ever, but really enjoyable.

I liked Season 6. There are a lot of things I didn't like and places I feel the writers made some missteps, but it had an intriguing mystery element to it and I loved the monster angle.

That said, S7 is leaps above it in quality. I'm really enjoying this season. Sure, it's not S1 or S2. But the show still has its heart and soul and I can't say that about many shows that are this old.

Yeah it's the same for me. Season 6 wasn't so terrible as many said but it surely wasn't the best season ever either. It had its moments and its missteps (one of the best moments is surely the one of your icon..i loved that episode!)

And definitly season 7 is better than season 6 for now. Of course the quality is not the same of many years ago but it's still better than most shows out there.

I think something's different about Psych this season, though I can't put my finger on what it is. After watching this week's ep I said to my mom, "I didn't really enjoy Psych this week," and I thought she was going to pass out or institutionalize me or something, heh heh. So maybe it's not me going crazy! The hangover ep was pure comedy gold, but other than that it's been a little lacklustre. But it's gone through phases like that in the past and regained its awesomeness, so maybe it'll do it again.

I kind of love Once Upon a Time for its Lost-ish-ness. It works for the storyline, which is more than can be said for most of the other shows that have tried that formula.

I like Once Upon a Time, but it's nothing that amazes me. Does that make sense? I don't know if you watch the promos for each new episode before it airs, so I won't comment on that. So while I watch it and it's nice to watch with my mom, I don't consider it a fave show or anything.

And I've felt this way about Psych all season. It has nothing to do with the relationship between Shawn and Juliet. There is something not clicking this season. If I were to make a guess based on my feelings, it's a character problem. I feel like the characters are not quite themselves and we're just watching joke after joke, parody after parody. The show has been high on jokes and parodies for a while, but I feel like the characters are getting lost in it now. Not sure. The last one I saw was the Shatner episode. I don't know if I am behind on another?

I have all the DVDs through seasons 1-4. Is it fifth season showing now? I dunno. Anyway, after we cancelled our cable service and went all computer, I haven't bothered to watch it online. Netflix doesn't have the most recent seasons, either, so, bleh. Even Shatner being on it didn't inspire me to find it online.

But, I feel the same way about Burn Notice. My husband was watching it for a while online, and then his interest seemed to peter out (or he started watching it after I went to bed).

Even Mythbusters was boring as all hell last season, to the point where even our kids, who adore the show, said it was boring. We ordered it off iTunes last year. Not this year, though. The consensus in this house is that iTunes can eat horse hockey. Unfortunately, it's the only service online that I know of that shows new episodes as they air. But since it suddenly went boring, we didn't want to bother anyway. We watch the more entertaining, fun episodes on Netflix after taking breaks.

I stopped watching Mythbusters a long time ago. I love the concept, but it seemed like it stopped being about ways to debunk myths and use science for fun, and more about what can we blow up this time.

Psych S5 is on Netflix. I watched that on there. They are currently in S6.

Nope, we never get the promos. I take it there's something you don't like in the next ep?

Psych tends to go through slumps every now and then. You probably didn't notice before because you were watching them so quickly. I always find I enjoy each season a lot more when I watch them through on DVD, but while we're getting one ep at a time it really seems to drag for a while every season. The writing just hasn't felt as tight lately. It'll get back on track eventually.

Ironically, I think part of the problem IS Shawn/Juliet - they're not fleshing out their relationship at all! It's all just business as usual, with even less flirty banter and zero UST between them, and that used to be one of the things that brought some life into a scene. They're probably trying not to shove the ship down anyone's throats, which is nice of them and all, but... at least show us sometimes that they HAVE a relationship, aside from the occasional peck of a kiss or an interrupted dinner date. I don't want bedroom scenes, but something. They never have "moments" anymore.

There's one episode after the Shatner one, and it's the one I didn't really enjoy. I might have been in a weird mood that day, though, I don't know.

Oh no. The episode for tonight looks good. I just wasn't very clear. My thoughts are very bouncy. I didn't want to talk about stuff in my post if it ended up being spoilery stuff for you.

There is often criticism for a show that when two characters get together the show stinks. I don't see the Shawn/Juliet part much of an issue when it comes to that. I find it strange they aren't acknowledging it more and perhaps that is part of the problem, but I still feel a massive disconnect to the characters this season. There are plenty of relationships and characters to explore, but they are choosing not to. I felt the disconnect in the very first episode and it surprised me. I thought it was just me.

Like most shows, I'm sure it works better viewed at once.

Going to start watching Supernatural again. Amazon has season four and five on sale for $14.99 a piece. I think it's time to rewatch/finish at least up to the end of season five.

I've not watched Once Upon a Time, but I've gotten into Grimm. We'll see if it lasts.
