Anyone Know Plumbing?

Well, we can't shower in our house unless we want to be boiled like a lobster. When we turn the knob from cold to hot only a trickle comes from the cold side (which quickly warms up) and as we get more and more pressure, it turns to scalding. We've had the opposite problem before: cold water works fine and then goes down to a trickle when the hot water would come on.

Does anyone know what the potential problem could be? We really want to feel clean and wash our hair.

All the problems we keep having really suck, let me tell ya.

ETA: Never mind. Our basement is flooded by a couple of inches and counting. The water heater/water tank is leaking. Fantastic.

I f'ing hate plumbing. Our basement area was flooded not too long ago too. Only it was icky stuff, not hot water heater stuff. You'll probably need to replace the hot water heater. They tend to die within ten years. Why, I don't know.

That's terrible. I'd head over to the hardware store to see what you can do to fix it, if anything. If not, then you probably need to replace the tank itself.

Mr. Po3 says if it's the tank, you may be able to patch it, but that would probably require a plumber who can weld, and at that point, might be cheaper just to buy a new one.

Did you check all the valves to make sure none of them were open in error?
