First off, Happy Canada Day to my Canadian friends. Hope you enjoy it.

-----------------------------

In other news, I took a horrible fall downtown today on my way to the library. I'm not sure what happened, but my ankle buckled under and hit the sidewalk hard. I was dazed for a bit, but an old man came by and picked up my books and offered to call for help. I just needed a minute so I sat there for a while. But my hands and right knee are all cut up, and I have occasional pain in my wrist and ankle. And my wrist keeps popping, ow. But it's my knee I'm most concerned about. The pain is nonstop and hurts so bad my eyes keep watering. I hope it'll be okay.

New Futurama again tonight. Anyone watching the show now that it's back?

Crud! You're just having a string of bad luck! Have you iced your injured bits? You can ice them as much as twenty minutes out of the hour, I've been told. Tylenol also reduces inflammation without increasing bruising. Of course, if it gets worse or doesn't improve, you might have to go to a doctor, but I hope it won't come to that.

I wish I could send Carson to make a house call for you!

I need some good luck pronto! There are days I sit back and say, wow. It's so bad it's funny. I just can't make this stuff up. I wish I was a pathological liar.

I wish you could send me Carson, too. I wasn't a big SGA person, but he was always my favorite.

A banged knee can hurt a rather spectacular amount without having any doctor-worthy damage. Ice it or otherwise numb it, and you're probably fine. As for the wrist, you might want to make a point of favoring it a bit, because you don't want to damage any tendons or ligaments by stretching them unnecessarily while they're healing. (This is of course only my opinion as someone who has lived the sort of life which has involved getting hit by trucks and falling off of roofs and getting trampled by livestock. I have no human-related medical training, only intro-level equine medicine courses that I snuck into my education while obtaining a degree in literature.)

Ouch. You really are having a string of bad luck :(

There's already been good injury-advice here so I won't repeat it.

And yes, I am totally watching futurama now that it's back.

Three years ago, when Mermaid sprained both her knees twice each (yeah, that's right, BOTH knees) in falls while wearing high heeled boots I then threw out---

What the doctor told her to do with the knees was to:
Alternate heat and cold, 20 minutes each for the first 24 to 48 hours.
Take Motrin (ie, ibuprofen) as well, to keep the swelling down, and
Use a cane or crutch to help you get around while the knee heals.

Wrist injuries are more problematical. Get a support for your wrist (the kind they sell in the pharmacy or in Stop and Shop) so that you don't overuse it accidentally. Also ice/heat that, too, and the ibuprofen won't hurt it, either.

Oh, K, you are having a bad string. I hope you heal up well.

Currently in a wrist and a knee brace thanks to my mom. Not only do we look alike, we seem to have the same injuries.

Ouch. I too have often been Gravity's bitch when one of my ankles decided to take a vacation without the rest of me. It's not fun.

If you follow [livejournal.com profile] gategrrl's advice, plus rest as much as you can, you should be feeling better in a few days. [crossing fingers]
