So, I finally watched the Watchmen movie. I thought it was pretty good. Meandered quite a bit and could have been a tighter movie, but it was still enjoyable. I knew most of what would happen anyway as my brother has had the comic for years. I recommend it, though it's a bit graphic in parts.

I recently have watched Punch Drunk Love. I still don't get that one.

And an old movie, Brazil, was weird and artsy, but a great social commentary. It reminded me a lot of 1984. Another movie I would recommend.

Which version of Watchmen did you see? The theatrical version was very tight. The director's cut with Black Freighter was long but it's my favorite.

I saw the director's cut. What is the difference between the two?

The theatrical version of Watchmen is shorter, although it tells the complete story (it was my first introduction to Watchmen).

The director's cut is longer. It has scenes that were cut, such as Hollis' death scene. List of differences.

The ultimate is similar to the director's cut (it has all the additional scenes) with the Black Frieghter cut into the film at various pieces, just as it is in the comic. It's extremely long, but I'm such a geek for it!

YAY WATCHMEN!

*reads other comments* Agreed with [livejournal.com profile] banana_cave. The theatrical version was a very tight movie, and the DC was strictly for the fans of the comic who wanted to see those tidbits they left out. Even as a diehard comic fan who squeed over the extra stuff, I admit it made the movie feel a lot longer than it should. But yeah, that's probably why it didn't appeal like it should, because you really do need to be a Watchmen-comic lover to care about some of those windy roads.

My brother is a die-hard and he said that it stayed pretty close to the comic. I really need to see the theatrical version to compare it. I liked it well enough, though.

:-) watchmen and brazil - both awesome movies. you've got to love dystopian society story lines.

did you ever read the handmaid's tale or fahrenheit 451?
