Turn Back Time

In light of the Season 5 Supernatural premiere just a couple of days away, and that it is more likely than not this storyarc for the Winchester brothers will be coming to an end this season, I thought we could go back to how it all began.

The following are two Season One promos that aired back when the show was just starting. One is a Dean voice-over and the other is a Sam voice-over. These promos showcase the show through the eyes of each brother. The Dean one talks about searching for their dad and being a family again, while the Sam focuses on the inability to be ordinary and destiny. How appropriate, eh? I really love how different they are and how they talk about the same thing - protecting people - but from different perspectives.

I think Jensen's is a little stiff (though I like it anyway), and Jared's has the appropriate touch of sadness. I chose a youtube clip that has both promos together embedded below.

Dean
My brother and I have chosen to follow in our father's footsteps, exploring the unknown, protecting the frightened. But now dad's missing and the trail is growing cold. We'll keep searching until we find him. We will become a family again.


Sam

I found them a couple of years ago. I never saw them air. But at that time, I was in my last year of my MA program and working on my thesis, so I wasn't watching much TV, not even Smallville. I wouldn't have seen these promos anyway.

TOTALLY READY!!! I've been rewatching some episodes of S1 and it's strange to see how young the boys look! And how unhulkified Sam is, lol.

Ohhhh, those are awesome!! They did a good job with exploring the same subject matter from two totally different perspectives. They summed Sam and Dean up really well. :)

I especially love in the first one when it looked like Dean was about to punch the wall... I've seen that clip used in a music vid like that before, too.

See, it's promos like that, that explore the humanity and the inner conflict of the characters, that grab a viewer. Why aren't there more promos like that?

They are fantastic aren't they? I love them so much. I found them about a year or two ago. Sometime during S3 anyway. I love stuff like this. And I totally agree with you. Promos like this go a long way of getting to the heart of the show, not what everyone thinks it's about.

I wish we had more. You should watch the "O Death" one once we're a few episodes in (to be safe since I don't know how far ahead the clips they use are) but that was a great one, too. Not character driven like these, but really has a great, compelling atmosphere to it. :)
