I dipped my toe into Supernatural fandom this morning and that fandom is about as big of a cesspool as Smallville is right now. I want to scream at people to relax, but that might be hypocritcal given my past and my personality ;)

But wow. I should know better than to poke around that fandom.

The Supernatural fans are really starting to scare me. I'm kind of scared of them after being in this fandom for a year. They're almost as bad as the Twitards, but quieter about it...or just more underground.

I think I'll stick to my few LJ friends who like the show already.

Oh it used to scare the pants off me, still does if I'm ever contemplating saying anything anywhere but now I kind of see rumblings about it only and kind of laugh. I guess I've found my comfort zone with it - ie flist only!

Posting anything out there though is still a nightmare and I hate to ask, but what's going on now?

For the most part, I stay away. Once in a while I go poking about because I am looking to discuss SPN or because I need some kind of SPN fix as I wait for new episodes. But usually I avoid because there is no pleasing anyone. They are so depressing, wanky, or insane.

Nothing new is going on. They are just all more vocal than normal. Just the same old, same old discontent that it's not S1 anymore. Basically, people are nervous for S5.

That was me in early S3 and early S4. I was nervous about the direction of the show or how some characters were portrayed. However, I was watching the show at the time. Season 5 hasn't even started yet. I see no need to angst out over a season that hasn't even aired yet.

I'm not even really spoiled for Season 5. I've seen the promos and a couple of blurbs, but that's it. I just can't get bothered. I trust the writing, heh.

You read my recent post, I've decided not to get involved with the fandom at all. Which is kind of a shame because for all the fighting and stuff in the SG fandom I've made some really great friends. But it's just not worth the raised blood pressure. I'll enjoy the show with the couple of SPN fans on my flist and leave it at that.
I'm really looking forward to the new season and I won't let people drag me down.

It's too bad because it's a great show and I'd love to get really fannish about it. I mean, I still write fic and make art and stuff, and I do have people on my flist who love the show, it would just be nice for the whole fandom experience you know? I dealt with a lot of negativity and crazy in SG-1 fandom, but I still met amazing people and had a good time.

It's just not possible with this fandom.

Yeah, I skirt the outsides of the fandom. As someone who doesn't mind the female characters, and who doesn't like J2 OR Wincest, I find that I don't have much in common with about 90% of the fandom (all of whom make me slightly depressed.) Most of the time, I stick with communities that are strictly Gen fiction, and communities that are strictly for Meta.

I also tend to not enter random discussions. There's "inkripkewetrust" community too, it's relatively new, but it seems to have a strict "no haters" policy, and so far I don't have any complaints about it. Though, I've been away most of August.

But sadly, the seemingly increasing crazy-quotient of the fandom is one of the reasons that I didn't even bother looking into tickets for the Vancouver Con.

oh yes! I went poking about because I don't mind spoilers and - holy macaroni, is there a lot of ... I dunno, dread? And over the top OMG!BETRAYED! people, and I don't know what all. I mean, when poor Mo Ryan at the Tribune has to put in a special plea for civility, and TWOP killed spoiler discussion because people were just too crazy - some fans seriously need to take a step back.

So anyway, thanks for being sane! *g* maybe if all of us who are generally content can band together, we could be our own fandom and ignore all the other ones when the show starts.

Okay, first? Your icon? LOVES.

Second? Yeah, SPN fandom at their wankery best at the moment. I won't ask for details, but I think I can guess what they're wanking about. There's a particular board that I hardly visit now because all they do is whine about season 5 and how it's bound to be horrible for one of the characters (I'll leave it up to you to guess who... *points to icon* ;)). They've been that way since season 3, whining about how bad the show has gotten and they wish it was like season 1.

Ugh. You know, I love this fandom. I have met some great people through it, and a lot of them right here on LJ (who are on my flist especially). But every so often I delve too deeply in it and have to yank myself away. I was foolish to read reports about the last Comic Con and what Kripke et al. said. Big mistake. I still have a headache from that wankery.

I just have to learn to recognize when it's getting too insane and pull back slightly. You'd think after being in the online fandom for just over 2 years, I'd know better. *sigh* It's still a learning process.

I think many fans wish it were still S1. I love S1. I do. But the characters have grown. if they hadn't, they would be static. Personally, though I am not spoiled aside from a couple of blurbs and the promos, I think S5 is going to be fantastic.

I won't touch any con stuff right now. I just can't. I love my flist and I'm happy here. I just sometimes yearn for more. Then I see what it is and I retreat back. I refuse to have this show ruined for me like what happened in Sg-1.

I'll read a lot of it, (I have a weird sense of humor) but I'm usually not one to respond to or get involved with the crazy. I'll post in some of the threads at IMDb, but there has been a lot of dumb crap coming up on there recently. A lot more over the past couple of days anyway.

Then, I followed the vancon posts on Twitter, it was weird to hear the negativity (though there was a lot of positive too.) and then actually watch clips of it. I couldn't really see it, you know? It seemed like a good event. (Except for an unfortunate question to Jared...) But, I think some people just aren't happy unless they're, unhappy, you know what I mean?

They were disrespectful to Jared too at the OzCon here back in April, Jared was just eating candy (which they gave to him, its not like he brought it with him) and he was joking around, because some humor was needed (Jensen was so jetlagged he could only humor us with sarcasm) whats wrong with having fun these days?

Fandom in general is a crazy place, I never will understand the mentality that if you're a REAL fan you hate the creator for messing with his/her creation. I just don't get that, though I'm one for disliking the direction show runners take characters in sometimes, but that's what fanfic is for - to fix the issues you disagree with or whatever. Fandom, any fandom should be fun! (am rambling, it's getting late)

Wow, um, I wouldn't even know what boards or forums to go to for SPN wank -- I just stick to the private conversations on my flist, but you've got SO MANY COMMENTS on this post, holy shit, you've got your own little corner of fandom right here, and it's YOURS, and that is just really fucking cool. Anyway.

I AM RIDICULOUSLY PSYCHED FOR THE SEASON PREMIERE. My BFF Lynn and I got permission to screen it on the giant wall-mounted television at our local comic book shop (they ran Dollhouse screenings on Friday nights last season), so we're going to bring baked goods and take over a couch and have the most awesome time ever. Wanking is such a waste of time. We have cookies to bake and a show to enjoy!

I'm still really enjoying the show. I think it's fantastic, but Season 2 is my fave so far.
