Okay, so why is it that my antivirus icon is no longer showing in on my bar at the bottom of the screen and when I go to the antivirus program on my menu and click on it, nothing comes up?
I didn't delete it. It was working fine just like 30 minutes ago. Where the heck did it go?
I swear, I don't need all these littler stupid things piling up on me when I have bigger issues to worry about. And I can't afford to pay for antivirus AGAIN when I just renewed this 3 months ago
*cries*

Date: 2009-07-28 12:29 am (UTC)Did you go to programs and try to open your AV from there?

Date: 2009-07-28 01:43 am (UTC)Yeah, I went to programs and tried to open it but it just won't open. I get the hourglass for a second and then it disappears and acts like I never tried to open the program. I tried rebooting but still nothing.

Date: 2009-07-28 05:04 am (UTC)But before you do any of this, download Malwarebytes:
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button
Run that sucker and do whatever it says, If, as codo1019 mentions below, you have gotten a virus that shuts down your antivirus, Malwarebytes is your best chance for finding and fixing it. That MAY actually get your current av back up and running, but if not, it's still a good idea to run that before installing Avira or AVG.
And if you HAVE gotten a virus, don't panic. Some of them are really nasty, but most of the time it's not as big a deal as you might think.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/
You can read a thread where someone recommends something, and see whether most people seem to agree or disagree. It's a good way to get a consensus opinion on various stuff.

Date: 2009-07-28 07:25 pm (UTC)I'm wondering if it has to do with a message I received like a week ago that one of my files was corrupted. The error message said to run chkdsk but that isn't functioning because of the corrupt file. I haven't been able to find a fix for it. My virus software was working just fine until yesterday though.

Date: 2009-07-28 09:56 pm (UTC)Do you have Windows installation disks? Because I think there's a ways to repair your installation, and if you want to try that, I could get really detailed instructions from an IT person I work with (I'm terrified of doing stuff like that, but if she tells me step by step, it always works).

Date: 2009-07-28 12:33 am (UTC)It might help to rename and then try to open it.
You might need to run COMBOFIX. It is also free and takes about 10-15 min. Gets rid of alot that Virus checkers don't.
