So, what hooked you on Supernatural?

For me, it's hard to say. I actively fought against this show for like a year. I think I was into the show for longer than I realized, but I guess I officially "came out" in Season 3. However, prior to Season 3 there were so many blatant signs that I'm surprised I remained in denial so long.
The Signs
#1 – The Premise. I liked the premise when I first spotted a billboard sign for the show the summer before it even aired. But like I do most of the time, I never got around to watching. Little did I know the show was much much more than just two guys fighting the supernatural.
#2 – In My Time of Dying. I caught the end of the Season 2 premiere on a rerun Thanksgiving 2006 when I was channel surfing. The emotion and the family focus caught my attention enough that I found myself coming back more and more before I quit channel surfing to watch the rest. I felt horrible for that poor Dean guy. And John? Ouch. Ouija Board scene between Sam and Dean FTW (see icon), which prompted me to purchase…
#3 – The Season 1 DVDs. I bought them and hoped for the best. I admit to sitting on them for a while and refusing to watch. Maybe I was afraid the show would consume me. It took me a few months before I started watching. But a funny quote right prior to watching the pilot:
"I had a dream about Supernatural last night, which is funny since I don't watch that show. I dreamed of Dean and stuff that happened to him before the show. And that's pretty adventurous considering I don't even know how the show began."
I enjoyed the pilot, but I was critical of it and it wasn't anything special to me. I saw it kind of a "poor man's X-Files." I had fun watching a couple of eps a night during a vacation with the lights off, but it didn't really grab me. Until…
#4 – Faith. This episode hit all the right buttons with me. Still don't know exactly why, but I found myself hooked on this episode. It was emotional, compelling, interesting, and had the signature humor moments. It had the right "vibe." Plus it was also one of those episodes that peeled back the facades of the characters to let us see what was inside. The growing relationship between Sam and Dean? Sold.
#5 – Art. I made my first banner for my profile page in Feb 2007 and my first icon the day before. I wanted an icon to go with my SPN posts as I watched S1. By March, I was posting really crappy icons from Faith (and had already started rewatching that ep).
#6 – Season 2 Live. I graduated from watching a few reruns of S2 during the hiatus to watching the show as it aired. I started calling it one of "my shows" in March 2007. I hit a snag when I walked from the show after Roadkill and Heart, but I was coaxed back for the finale. I found it predictable and wasn't overly impressed. I wasn't sure I'd come back for S3.
#7 – I came back for Season 3. I watched sporadically at first, watching on TV and missing an ep or two, and watching online. By November, I was watching regularly. I started to suspect that I was hooked. But my suspicions really rose when…
#8 – Dreams. I have fandom dreams. I'll dream about whatever I am reading, watching, etc. I started having frequent Supernatural dream in the fall. Some of those dreams started forming into workable ideas for fanfic. I shared this dilemma with my friend Meg who was no help by encouraging me.
#9 – Fanfic. I started writing in Jan 2008. A week prior to admitting that, I posted this. By then, I knew it was inevitable. I was writing fanfic. I was totally gone.
And I've been gone ever since ;)

Date: 2009-06-25 06:28 pm (UTC)I got the first disc of season one through Netflix, watched it, and went, "Damn it. I need to buy this show." I then immediately went to Best Buy and bought Seasons One and Two.
Yeah, when I fall for a show I fall HARD. My roommate and I both ended up watching through the boxsets in time for the season premiere and we haven't looked back since! ;)

But yeah with SPN at least we fell hard for massive quality, right?

Date: 2009-06-25 06:54 pm (UTC)Anyway...I didn't actually end up watching it, probably because it premiered on my birthday and I was otherwise occupied. It fell off my radar after awhile, because I didn't watch anything else on the WB, but then in January 2007 we were having one of our periodic "sexy threads" on a message board I frequent, and someone posted a picture of Jensen, whom I'd completely forgotten about. A few months later, one of my LJ friends said she'd just finished watching the S1 finale and was excited to start watching S2, which had just finished airing on TV. For some reason, I decided I was interested in watching it again, and she gave me a few websites where it could be found.
I read the plot summary of the first two seasons on Wikipedia, and then, on August 2, 2007 (I remember because I posted in my LJ about it afterwards) I got bored and watched the Pilot. The opening scenes kinda disturbed me a bit, but pretty much as soon as Dean showed up at Stanford, I was sold. Been a Dean!girl ever since, and I was pretty much completely hooked by the time the pilot ended. (That very rarely happens to me. It usually takes me quite a few episodes to really get into a show; the only other one whose pilot hooked me was The OC, embarrassingly enough.)
I watched most of S1 online, and bought the DVDs around the time I got to "Something Wicked", because I couldn't find it anywhere online. Got the S2 DVDs for my birthday, and I started watching the show live with the S3 premiere. It's been "my show" ever since.

Date: 2009-06-25 07:02 pm (UTC)I think I was predisposed to being a Deangirl too. I knew Jensen from SV and my first exposure to SPN was IMTOD.
I couldn't be happier though :)

Date: 2009-06-25 07:10 pm (UTC)Seriously, though. I had seen IMToD when it aired originally, but they killed JDM, so I was like, "Chah, whatever. I'm done with this show." Then,
Wow. Rambly paragraph is rambly. :)

Date: 2009-06-25 07:29 pm (UTC)Faith is also a big episode for me too. I remember watching it for the first time, and I remember thinking that I couldn't believe how amazing the guys were, and how they SOLD their characters. Fair enough, that statement ended up getting stronger and stronger as the seasons progressed, but I thought they made the brotherly relationship so real even then.
For me though, it was my Dad that got me into Supernatural. I think someone had bought him the DVD's for his birthday, and him and my stepmum would watch them, but me and my sisters generally never did. Then I think I caught a few scenes, realised how hot the guys were and how awesome the plot sounded and decided to watch it for myself. And wow, did I fall for the show. I watched the whole of the first season in a few days and loved it. I laughed, I cried and I jumped a mile in the finale XD I started off as a Sam girl, but then I think by Phantom Traveller, Skin, Home and Faith, not only was I a definite Dean girl from then on, but I also knew I was addicted.
Season 2 I watched online, then I downloaded 3 and 4 at university which I hadn't been able to do before, so that I could watch them the same time as it aired in America so I wouldn't get spoiled.
I made my first batch of icons after 'Monster Movie', and my first Supernatural fanfic shortly followed, although I've still got quite a few ideas that I'm halfway through from at least as far back as S2.

Date: 2009-06-25 08:08 pm (UTC)I started watching it in February/March 2009, I believe, and every day for 2 months I would watch at least 2 episodes, and soon enough, I was completely caught up. And now, I own Seasons 1-3, and I can't wait to get 4 and for it to come back.

Date: 2009-06-25 08:31 pm (UTC)So, really, the only reason I finally gave it a shot was because I wanted to be able to read (and understand) all the fic about the oh-so-pretty boys that was being recced on my flist. I remember thinking something like 'Wow, this is actually really good,' in Phantom Traveler when Dean was afraid to go on the plane. I'm pretty sure that's where it clicked for me.
That was in October 2006. I caught up live at CSPWDT, and it's been my #1 fave ever since.

Date: 2009-06-26 05:20 am (UTC)And then the S1 finale...when that semi came out of nowhere (I seriously did not see that coming) and that's how the season ended. Well, I knew there was no way I could ever stop watching.

Date: 2009-06-26 06:38 am (UTC)So one night in 2007 I was flicking through channels and watched the 2nd half of In My time of Dying and I was like "hey he was on Smallville..and oh the other one was in House of Wax....oh its that spooky show...pretty cool...they're kinda cute..."
but I dont get into shows unless I watch them from the very beginning. But I wanted to see more of Jensen's work so I bought Dark Angel seasons 1&2 first. (And because I've never seen an ep of DA and I was curious to how Jessica Alba's career began.)
Then I watched seasons 1-3 of SPN every night for about 2 months. I got hooked straight away. Mainly because of the scary and sexy aspects.
Pretty much in a nut shell that covers it. I dont wanna go into deep analysis, the show rocks the box what more can I say?

Date: 2009-06-27 06:55 am (UTC)#1. The brotherlove--the relationship between the guys, their interaction, everything about that.
#2. Jensen Ackles and the character of Dean. I loved everything about him until the beginning of season 3. *g*
