Lost, Season 5

I'm going to start off with Lost.



I only started watching Lost last season when my brother made me watch 4 seasons back to back in the space of a few months. (In return, I made him watch SPN. Now we have both converted to our respective shows.) I managed to watch the S4 finale live since I was caught up and I watched S5 as it aired.

I really enjoyed the season. I like the shortened seasons of Lost more than the normal length since I found that I was bored in S2 and S3. I was also bored in S1, but I probably would think differently if I watched again thanks to hindsight.

I was a little iffy on the time travel aspect since most shows I have ever watched do it all wrong and bad. I was pleasantly surprised, however, at what a wonderful job they did. Anything they may of retconned didn't really feel all that retconned and it was awesome to really see what was going on with the Dharma Initiative.

This season was weird because it seemed to spotlight many of the main-but-not-so-main characters, as well as supporting cast. Many of the regular main character you would expect to get a lot of attention - Jack, Locke, even Kate, had a few episodes here and there, mainly at the beginning before it turned over to other characters.

To be honest, half the time I didn't realize they were gone. Oh, there's Jack! Oh, geez forgot all about Sayid...

I've never liked Juliet but this season I loved her. I don't really ship on this show either, aside from Desmond/Penny, but Juliet/Sawyer won my heart. Kate didn't bother me so much this year because it seemed like she finally had a purpose. I went from loving Sayid to hating him to wishing he would please not die. I even felt some sympathy for Ben.

I felt bad for Daniel and I love Miles.

And I guess maybe I am in the minority, but I love the whole Jacob/other guy thing going. It has this God-like vs the Devil type of feel to it nicely set up in the flavor of Egyptian mythology, too. So I am curious where they go with it.

Like most people, I was all WTF! at the end of the season finale. I was heartbroken for Juliet and for Juliet and Sawyer. No matter what lingerign feelings he had for Kate (grr) he was so devoted to her. I will miss them. Their relationship felt very real too me.

Here's hoping that next season they'll all be back and alive. And that inclues Locke because ouch. That sucks.

There has to be awesome Lost icons out there, right? I like funny ones but all I can ever find are stupid ones.

mysticxf has some pretty awesome icons... She is (unfortunately) a Jack/Kate fan, and occasionally has slash icons, but the majority are just fun and, well, laugh-out-loud for me. ;)

I didn't dislike the Jacob/Whatshisface. I just didn't *entirely* get it, which I expect is how it should be...makes me want to see the next season all the more :p

I agree with you about this season. The length was just enough to get me into it, but not enough to make me bored. Most seasons I've struggled through because the story just doesn't progress, and there is too much focus on people's histories rather than their presents and futures. I felt like the story was actually going somewhere this season, rather than stalling. Oh! And I was like you, I completely forgot Sayid was alive and around until he popped up again in the episode before the finale.

Again, totally with you on Sawyer/Juliet...and Daniel! S/J surprised me in the best possible way. I wasn't watching when I heard the rumbles of their romance, but the idea both perplexed me and interested. Them and the time travel idea were probably the only two reasons I tuned back in after a year and a half of not watching.

I saw Jacob as this godlike figure who believed in humanity and free will. He seemed to see that any choice was progress and kept pushing for people to make the decisions they felt were best.

Whatshisface was more negative and an inciter by tempting people and pushing them in the opposite direction, speaking to their darker desires. So I saw him more like a devil or demaon, a personification of evil.

Then there were some allusions to the Egptian mythology where Osiris was finally killed by his brother Seth. Or how Anubis would judge the choices and good deeds of those before death.

I'm not one of those that makes wacky theories, though. I just couldn't help make those personal connections from my interests. I could be way off base.

The time travel really wasn't all that bad. They kept it one of my fave types of time travel story - nothing can changce. Of course, we'll find out if that is true or not when S5 comes back LOL

But I seriously will miss James and Juliet. They worked so well *sigh*

I found the finale a bit slow this year. The James and Juliet stuff was really heartbreaking though and so well-acted. So sad :(
