I'm burnt out so I am on LJ. Where else would I be?

Anyway...

I noticed a ton of people posting about Dreamwidth. Nothing aginast Dreamwidth since it seems like it's run by a lot og great people, but I have no intention of moving over at this time. I'm rooted in LJ and I like it here. So, if you all are moving over, I'll certainly miss you if you don't stick around, but I wish you well, too. I just am comfy where I am.

This morning I updated my website to state that I am no longer writing SG-1 fic. I only did this because I know several people keep asking about fic and I figured it would be proper to let everyone know that I had stopped. I generally don't like grand announcements since I think it makes people look conceited, but I just thought it would be the courteous thing to do. I'm still keeping my fic up on my website and my LJ. I just won't be adding anything new.

So, if you are just here for fic or for SG-1, then you might be disappointed. (Though, it's been obvious that my SG-1 muse left some time ago.) But I do hope to stay friends with many of you beyond our love for SG-1 :)

I'm currently writing mainly in the SPN fandom, but I already know I will not reach the epic ficness that I did with SG-1. Still, it's fun as my sometimes hobby :)

I've been drifting from the Stargate fandom for a while now, mainly because I'm so aggravated by how the franchise has been handled. And we haven't drifted because of it.

I'm just curious - any reason why you stopped writing SG-1 fics? Is it because you're more focused on the SPN fics now?

Yup, I know :) It's nice that I can still remain friends with people even after a mainly shared fandom has passed. But I wanted to give people the opportunity to move on if they wanted to.

And I also wasn't really satisfied with the direction of the franchise either.

Yes and no? While it's true that my writing interests are with SPN right now, I wouldn't say it's the reason why I stopped writing SG-1. I feel like I've said what I needed to say with SG-1. Sure, I have some WIPs that I really wanted to finish, but it really was just the same themes and takes over and over again. It gets boring when you just find new ways of telling the same stories. Plus, as time goes on I start to lose the characters; voices in my head. So even if I have some fics that are original and would make a good read my heart isn't really in it.

Does that make sense?

I guess it's just the same as something like Star Wars. I still love Star Wars to pieces, but I don't write for it anymore. I would say the same for SG-1.

That makes sense. I tend to write fics within a fandom for a while and then just stop, although it's more because I ran out of ideas. I've never come to the realisation before that I'm done writing fics for a fandom; it just sort of happens. You really have written a lot of SG-1 fics. You've probably written more within that fandom than I've ever written.

I wrote one Star Wars fic. I wrote it before I even knew what fanfiction was. I think I was 11 or 12 years old. I also love Star Wars to pieces but have never considered writing more fics for the fandom than just the one.

I've known I was done for awhile, though I kept trying to believe it was just a break. I just know that I can't see getting back to it unless I am really inspired. I just feel done. :)

I've got one more SG1 fic in me -- it's been in progress for some years now and I'm determined to finish it. I don't know if the muse or the plot bunnies will supply any more fuel to the fics.

Lately, I've been getting more involved with NCIS. Plot bunnies are hopping in my noggin for those stories.

I still enjoy writing though. I don't want to lose my love of that. I just need to find a new outlet for my muse's musings.

What's Dreamwidth?

I was determined to finish mine, too. I hate to let these WIPs rot away like they are. But I know the reality - at least for me - is that I won't finish them. it's a shame because I think they could be awesome, but I just can't muster the necessary dedication, strength, and passion to continue.

And even though I mainly write for SPN, I barely write for that fandom. It's very much just an occasional hobby for me. I have too many other things to focus on like my own writing.

But writing is writing, right? Why not try to hone your skills into original stuff?

Dreamwidth is an LJ like blog site underdevelop by fannish people who are from LJ.

Dreamwidth? honestly haven't heard of it yet- but I've seen so many people go over to places like blogspot/wordpress/etc, but I can't do it. LJ is just, like you said, a comfortable piece of clothing I can't get rid of. Besides, the purpose for LJ is less of a socialization for me and more a journal- facebook is for social purposes. Plus, very few of my 'real life' friends are on LJ, but I have made quite a few friends via the internet- and sometimes, it's good to share your thoughts with people who won't necessarily judge you in the same way. Make sense? ;)

It hasn't lauched yet, but it's like LJ run by people from LJ. A lot of fannish types are moving over there.

I can't get Facebook since I'm trying to get into teaching, so my LJ serves as my social and fannish outlet.

But yeah, it makes sense :)

Isn't it weird the way Stargate was so epic for us, fanfic-wise? The fandoms I've been in since then just haven't reached that point for me. I fell in love just the same, but I don't think I'll be spending four years and writing over a hundred fics for any of them. I guess SG-1 was the Big One for me, even if we're mostly broken-up now. I'll always glance back at it fondly.

Stargate had that epic quality, that's for sure. I would have argued that maybe it's a newbie fan phenom, that people who experience fandom - true fandom - for the first time go all out. But I know that you and many others came from previous fandoms. I had written fanfic prior to SG-1 too.

So, it was just something about the show, the fandom, and the time and place I guess. I know that even the shows I adore now will never reach the fannish level I had with SG-1. :)

Nahhhhh...I'm so here!!!

And I'm still HERE...until you get bored and kick me, lol!!

*snuggles you*

You know, it's funny. I LOVE the ficcage of SG1 and it is still epic for me. I FIEND over SPN, but the fic ain't there for me - though I need it like a druggie needs a fix *sigh*...that's terrible, isn't it?

LOL I wish I had time to read more.

SG-1 fandom, I inhaled fic left and right. I read so so much and then I wrote for years. I'm all tapped out now, but I really was embedded deep.

With SPN, I simply adore the show, but I'm not really into the fandom much. I write some fic, but not nearly as much, and I'm cautious in reading fic. the show is so tight, I don't really need to LOL

I too, DEVOURED SG-1 fic - love SPN fic, but I need the show more...like crack, lol!!

*Smishes you in joy and understanding*

As far as DreamWidth is concerned, I'll be in both places until I decide which I want to keep, or maybe do both. I bet a lot of people are the same! :)
