Yes. I am happy. Jack-centric movie? That sounds lovely. Let's hope RDA isn't rusty and puts a ton of effort into it. No Vala? That's icing on the cake for me. No offense to the Vala fans, but I really want a movie that focuses on the classic members of SG-1. I feel that Vala really took away from the dynamic that I always loved. And that's putting it rather kindly.

(I wonder if I would have liked her better if she had been a recurring antagonist like Maybourne or if they would have given her more scenes apart from Daniel.)

I'm not deluded enough to think we'll get something straight out of the early seasons. That's impossible now. But a Jack-centric movie is a step in the right direction. When RDA was on the show, the show managed to be focused on him AND the team and they pulled it off.

If this has minimal ship, and we get confirmation it will have a team slant, I will score the trifecta! Ha!

So we'll see. I'm cautiously optimistic with this news :)

I wonder why you would worry about that? Not because one of your flist is spoilerphobe freak (even if she broke the news to you yesterday) *whistles innocently*

I am hoping for teamy goodness...but I'm always hoping for that. And I agree with everything you said. (Although I think I warmed up to Vala more than you did in Season Ten). I think she would've been awesome as a Maybourne-like adversary popping in for space pirate adventures. I did like the Vala/Adria arc though, and I was really dreading it when I first heard the concept.

There were a lot of things I liked about Vala but just didn't vibe with what SG-1 always was. So her character and her arcs independent from SG-1 were fine. Then you place it in the context of the show and add her to SG-1 and it didn't work so well.

Recurring status might have relieved that contridiction.

Hell, I'm a spoilerphobe too, and yet I peaked.

As for Vala, I couldn't stand her when she came on, not so much her but how she made Daniel pissy all the time. After her time with Tomin, she was a lot less obnoxious. I was actually starting to like her.

There's still the chance that Cam Mitchell will be a part of the movie, which would take away from the "classic" slant.

You and I seem to be on the opposite ends of the spectrum...the news pretty much killed SG-1 for me seeing as I don't like Jack and I love Vala :(

I...can't get excited. :( I loved early Jack, loved his connection with everyone, the chemistry between RDA and Michael Shanks was phenomenal. Later seasons killed my love for Jack. I won't be seeing this one if it's later seasons Jack, but I'll be checkin' the Flist because if Early seasons Jack makes an appearance (or Mini-Jack) then I'll gladly watch. Would like it if Vala were around at least a little bit, just for continuity's sake if nothing else. Will pout if Cam's not there though, I really enjoy that character. I also can't imagine a Stargate movie without Daniel, but I guess that's a given...I hope. :)

If they try to go the classic team route for nostalgia (and money) I won't complain. But if it's Jack centric, RDA really has to bring it.

I have no idea who else is in it, though. Hopefully, at least the classic team. I won't complain if Cam is around.

I totally agree with you about Vala. I love Claudia to death, but her character was definitely a distraction. And I'm glad she and Ben got to work together again, but they never really did (which of course, is probably due to people saying, we don't need Farscape intruding, etc.).
Anyways-I truly hope that RDA does really well, and maybe the movie will be an awesome version of a massive 'oldie' episode:)

I would have. I loved/love Claudia Black, and I still have a massive girl crush on her. I think she's a fantastic actress, and I'd love to see her in almost anything, really. I just hated how they bent everyone else out of shape to fit her in as a viable team member. It just didn't work for me, and I ended up disliking pretty much everyone except her. heh

I enjoyed her in the first episodes of season 9 for the most part that she was in. Those episodes weren't perfect. There were so many ways the writers went wrong for the show and the characters, but overall, I liked them and wasn't put off the show or anything. I especially enjoyed Daniel in those episodes. I definitely would have preferred for Vala to have stayed a questionable rogue. Actually, she was never questionable to me. After what she did to the SG members she stranded in space and the way she treated Daniel... *g* But I don't think many agreed with me about that, though that hasn't changed my mind in the slightest.

I haven't watched the end of season 10, though I'd intended to. It just sort of faded away, and since then I've just never been able to bring myself to watch it. I wasn't even remotely interested in the other two movies either, but this one sounds like something I *might* be interested in. I'll definitely wait and see what everyone else thinks of it. :-)

Glad you like the new. To me this could be the Sg1 tombstone. The third movie will be about Jack...I hope for you it won't be the dumb expressionless Jack of Continuum, and since this will be The confirmation movie I doubt we'll see much of a Jack/Daniel either, not to mention the way TPTB dismissed Vala, but since BW don't like Vala that is not really a surprise.

Like I said I am cautiously optimistic. There are a lot of things that could go wrong. If it's Sam/Jack loaded I won't be happy. But I do like the idea that we'll be getting a Jack heavy movie. I've missed him :(

I was delighted when I read Brad's comments yesterday. I had been afraid they'd changed their minds, since we hadn't heard anything for some time.

I love Jack (almost all the time) and RDA, so I have high hopes that if they have a good script that it'll be a good movie, and remind us of the teamy goodness of earlier seasons. Hard to say if we can get that lucky, but I'm sure hoping hard.

The hard part is waiting over a year for this to appear. I just hope RDA is working on losing the extra weight he said he promised some exec he'd lose, if they agreed to the movie. Having lost more than that myself many years ago, I know it's not easy.

Here's hoping for a great new movie full of teamy goodness and JACK!!

I agree with you, though. I think most fans would be happy if we had a movie where we had Jack doing something sutantial and not just regualred to jokes. He can have something hearty AND joke around at the same time.

If you're truly blessed, then we'll have a team movie with a Jack-slant, which would be similar to how the show was conceptualized.

I've made it a point to stay far away from JM's blog for a variety of reasons, but oooh. This does sound promising.

No Vala? That could be a good thing (and like you said, no offense to the Vala fans - I just got really annoyed with TPTB's obsession with pairing her off with Daniel, leaving very little opportunity for Vala/Other and Daniel/Other interaction).

And Jack-centric could be good, as long as Jack has some substance and he won't be overly jokey Jack.

I'm really hoping we get some nice team interaction and especially Sam/Daniel friendship. There was some of that in Continuum. I hope they stick to that recipe in this film.

Ditto to the minimal ship request... squint-and-you'll-see-ship is best IMHO.

You know, I honestly think most fans just want a good classic team adventure. We want Jack who is not just a bunch of jokes - he can be funny and serious. We want a Sam who is scientific, but also military. We wants Daniel doing his scholarly thing. We want Teal'c being...Teal'c. We want them together working like the family we fell in love with.

I don't care who you ship or slash. I honestly believe that at the end of the day most fans want that.

So I hope this is what MGM and TPTB will give us, even if just a little taste.

My fear is it will be Jack-centric and that's it. Not much Daniel or Sam or Teal'c. I want teamy goodness. And what about Cameron? I think their work is going to be cut out for them in this one. Jack is what made me stay with the show and move through all the episodes.

I wonder if they decided to not include Vala because of contracts or unavailability. I just want it to be good. I'm crossing my fingers.

Isn't that what we all want in the end? I may not like some of the characters, but I would take something teamy and GOOD over a movie about my fave characters anyway.

So we'll just have to wait and see I guess :)

I like to stay optimistic. Not super crazy squeeful because I've been burned before by this show, but optimistic. I still love Jack. If the movie is Jack centric, I would hope he would have some meaty material that he can actual do something with instead of just playing the comedian.
