CW's Graysons takes flier on Robin

*cries*

Don't touch my Dick Grayson. Don't. My fave Batman character. Noooooo.

I guess they are looking to have it replace SV if that show isn't renewed. If SV is renewed, it could play alongside SV. So, what that would do to SPN, I don't know.

It's being produced by Smallville's Souders and Peterson, and Supernatural's McG.

Mind you, I was super skeptical of Smallville when it first aired and was surprised that I enjoyed it. But I remain skeptical for a show like this. What kind of story can you tell about a boy before he is taken under by Bruce Wayne? I don't want to think about how bad this will conflict with Batman canon. I sort of go lalalalala with Smallville as it is.

I still think they should just go with a Green Arrow spin-off. Oh well. We'll see.

I imagine the reason this is more attractive to them then a GA spin-off is that this is likely to skew younger, since it seems that Dick will be a teenager.

I'm not sure its anything I'd be interested in, personally.

It doesn't sound appealing to me.

Someone mentioned a Batgirl show would have made more sense if they couldn't have a Bruce Wayne show. That actually does sound decent. You could have Robin or Nightwing pop in all the time.

*shrugs* All I ask is for SV to have a decent ending and for my Supernatural to be left untouched so it can finish its 5 year series run.

Not too much to ask for, right?

You know, I really wish WB would get their act together. The audience isn't stupid. We *can* handle movies and tv shows at the same time and understand differences. I could happily watch a Batgirl show and then go and watcha Nolan film.

It's what's bugged me a lot about Smallville. I bet we wouldn't have had Losi restrictions and roadblocks on some aspects of Smallville if the movie division or whoever could grasp that concept.

But I like your positive spin on SPN and the end of SV. We need more positive thoughts!!

Honestly, it's SV=Clark for me. If there is no Clark, there is no Smallville. I understand that Smallville is bigger than just Clark Kent, but the premise of the show is Clark so I don't want a S9 without him. If they do a S9 and TW signs (and ED please), I'll have some reservations because of the stall tactics, but I'd still watch.

Let's just hope they do Clark's story justice :)

So will this be Robin: The Wonder Years?

I do like the "acrobat" background of young "Master Dick". (Hee, they even mentioned Nightwing in the Variety article! I still have the issue where he became nightwing! [/comic geek]

it sounds like a soap opera. Oh CW.

But see, they are "reimagining" his background so heaven knows what they're doing to him.

Happy birthday, btw :)

You know. I remember going, please, Clark as a teenager in Smallville--okay, but Lex Luthor living in town and they're best buddies? PLEASE, give me a break!

And the Clark/Lex dynamic is one of the best things from the series as a whole! (Er, not that...you know what I mean!)

I know. That is why I refused to watch it.

I was like Clark? A teen? Pssh. I wasn't so interested in his high school life with Lana. And Lex Luthor in his childhood? Friends? Where's my canon!!

(I later learned that this actually has happened in the comics before so silly me.)

But it turned out awesome. I miss Lex :(

That said I still don't know if I want to watch Dick "DJ" Grayson and his loves.

Unless it's Dick/Barbara for which I am shameless.

Well, I'm sure we're not the target demographic for this, either. These networks only care how many high school boys watch a show, and the rest of us can go jump in the lake. Because after all, high school boys control the nation's wealth and don't pirate 90% of their viewing . . .

Yeah. I wish stupid execs could get it in their head that they have this huge audience they ingore. if they tapped into us the way they should, they wouldn't be moaning about numbers ever again.

BTW, let me know when your situation is resolved.

I can't help it I *shudder* at the thought of this.

Maybe it will be better than I think. But..........ugh.

Uh. That sounds like it might last for a short miniseries.

But a *series*?

You know, that might actually be a cool minseries. I could see that.

A series? I can't fathom it. I truly can't.

Ugh.... why don't they just do a full-fledged Justice League spinoff? That seems to be what they're attempting to have Smallville turn into, simply without Clark ever getting any powers or doing anything useful. Will DC not let them or something? *sigh* Leave poor Robin alone, guys.

From: [identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com
Yes, leave the Robin alone. Grr.

I'd watch a JLA spin-off. A Green Arrow spin-off. But this? This sounds a bit scary.

From: [identity profile] gembat.livejournal.com
I just think a JLA spin-off makes so much sense for them. Think of all the drama, all the characters they'd have to draw from.... They could follow DC canon and it would essentially be a soap opera, especially if Ollie and Dinah stay on. :) They could even keep Tom Welling if they wanted. It has so many more possibilities than a show about an acrobat who, presumably after the show, becomes a sidekick. Just no. *sigh*

Doesn't make much sense but it's really all about the ratings & money, sadly. I'd prefer a Green Arrow spin-off. I've been wanting one for ages. :P

From: [identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com
I think people would actual watch a GA spin-off. I didn't really care for the character much prior to SV, but Hartley does a great job with him. I would watch a spin-off with him.

But alas, they don't seem to want one.

I need Ollie icons.

From: [identity profile] svgurl.livejournal.com
I think it'd be smarter to do a JLA/GA spinoff, really. Because they have an established fan base and can play off of that. This sounds like a really bad idea. :\

From: [identity profile] jedishadowolf.livejournal.com
I don't want a show about Dick before he got to be Batman's ward though...:( I don't want to see what they do to canon on that, it'll just mess with me, much like Birds of Prey did (granted I actually liked it but it still messed with me). I'm with you - a Green Arrow or Justice League spinoff would be happy indeed. I'm loving Green Arrow. :)

I thought the word was already out this is SV's last season. God, I hope so. Anyway, this show = bad idea.

I cannot believe they are making this show. There is NO WAY this is a good idea. I can't imagine what'll happen as the show continues and Dick ages. It is just mind boggling. :(
