Not Amused

I went to a Smallville site for Smallville ONLY spoilers and a considerate poster posted a Supernatural spoiler right there in the open. The place had nothing to do with SPN!

Fabulous *is not pleased*

You know, it's going to really suck if I have to cut my online time down to a minimum and not participate in any fandoms. I'm fine with people having fun with spoilers, I just don't want them this year and like to at least have the choice whether to see them or not.

Now I'm grumpy.

See, this is why my active participation in fandom is limited, for the most part, to shows with closed canons. People like to spoil. Therefore I enjoy time I spend online in relation to Firefly or Buffy or Roswell or Dark Angel, and limit my interaction with Heroes (for example) to just watching it. The downside is that I'll always be late to the party, so will never be one of the more popular fic writers, but I find the advantages to working with a closed canon are worth the sacrifice.

Yeah. Closed canon is good for that. I missed fandom for X-Files. I watched the show straight through, but didn't discover an internet presence (since I didn't have a computer) until late in its run. At that point, I never joined the fandom. I was actively doing fannish things for Star Wars, but that is more of a closed canon until the prequels popped up, and that is still different.

I'm poking around a bit in Dark Angel, and that's nice because I could just watch the DVDs and then look at what is going online when I was ready. And even for SG-1, I caught most of it on DVD before I ventured into fandom, so I enjoyed it.

Oppen canon fandoms can be stressful and severly limit your fun, which to me is ridiculous. So I'm not sure if I'll scale back, or just limit myself to a few specfic places. it's just jarring to find a spoiler for a show on a site for a different show.

That would make me so mad. I've been really cautious this year. I had some spoilers about the first episode but I've been doing really good with avoiding them.

I forgot to mention, you should check out [community profile] spnfencentral as they're spoiler-free and really help fans to avoid spoilers for the current season (including things like episode titles, spoilery icon posts and the such.) I've been able to avoid quite a bit because of them.

Oh! I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

I am weak willed. So for me to go all summer without spoilers - aside from spoilers on the cw that I couldn't avoid in their ticker and an inconsiderate poster who kept posting spiilery things outside of cuts - I've been very very good. I've been accidentally spoiled a couple of times, but I understand that can happen.

I just sort of lost it when this spoiler was nestled in spoilers for a whole different show on a different board.

I am the same way, normally I can't help myself. But I find that sometimes it distracts from my enjoyment of the show. So I've been really good after I found out some stuff about the first episode.

I remember when I used to watch Buffy and Angel that sometimes spoilers for either show would happen like that. Oh this is happening on Buffy and guess what's happening on Angel too... that used to infuriate me.

Boo!

I'm telling you, people used to be really good at keeping spoilers under wraps for those who don't like them. Now there's still a bit of "OMG, you can't say that, it hasn't aired in my country yet!!11" but overall? People seem to all be Chatty Cathys and will spoil without batting a single eyelash.

There's never any middle ground. I can understand the people in other countries that haven't seen it yet, but you can't be quiet forever. Like for me, I haven't watched Continuum yet. So if something pops up online for it, I'm not going to have a fit about it. But talking about spoilers in a place it doesn't even belong is just bad form. The assumption is that everyone wants to be spoiled too so just let the info out. A show like SPN is much more satisfying (for me) when I don't know what's coming.

Getting spoiled sucks. I can understand that you're grumpy.

Yeah. I'll get over it, but I like to have the choice of getting spoiled or not. if it's my fault, then fine. Taking away my option just irks me.

Oh the mods don't care. I'm just not going there anymore.

It's one thing if I'm the one actively seeking it out, you know? But I seriously hate not having the choice.

That's not nice. Spoiling is not nice to do. Grrrrr. *hugs*

It's not. it's one thing if you go out and seek the spoiler yourself. It's another thing when someone spoils you.

People suck :(

But on the plus side (for me) your previous post about having finished long, plotty SPN fic makes me very happy.
