I checked out that multifandom Fandom Free For All, and I'm kind of sad I can't participate. Most of the prompts are for crossovers, slash or het pairings that don't really inspire me, wincest, or fandoms I'm not in. The fandoms I do enjoy and are most comfortable with (like SPN or SG-1) have very little in the way of gen prompts or pairings I write. The very few that are there have already been taken. Technically, you can do a prompt someone else did, but I would have rather done something for someone that didn't have any. Even the icon requests are taken.

I was going to post some requests, but if I can't find anything to do in return, it's not really fair.

Oh well. I shouldn't really be playing around anyway. I just like to particpate and share the love.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to fulfill any prompts myself. I haven't really had a chance to look through all the posts yet, though. I think I read that more than one person can claim a prompt, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I read that you can, but I'm not as inclined to do that. I'd rather do something for someone that doesn't have anything or at least the prompt taken so there is more variety, if that makes sense.

I've not even heard of this one.

I don't have the link handy, but it's going around LJ. There's quite a lot of prompts from a bunch of fandoms. The majority of it just doesn't appeal to me, personally. You list at least 10 things you would like and people grab stuff. Then you go back and do something for someone else.

That baffles me. I feel like I'm part of a dying breed for liking nice, long, plotty pieces that could sub in for an episode. I'm more likely (understatement) to slash for SG-1, but I'm still a gen girl at heart.

I get disheartened that it seems more and more fanfiction = all about teh sex.

I know. Me? I'm big on episodic and plotty stuff. (I may be short on time to devote myself to reading or writing much of it, but I do hold it to a higher standard.)

If I am going for shortfic, I like something beautiful and lavish in prose or character driven. Even cute humor is nice, but humor is also falling away into the crack!fic genre.

I'm happy people are posting and getting prompts and stuff, but is it sad to see a distinct lack of gen or plot :(

I think there are only a handful of us left.

It might go hand-in-hand with the idea fanfiction is supposed to be for fun. By fun, I think some people don't want to put any extra effort in plotting or research.

For me, that is a big part of the fun.

Aw. I'm always sad that there isn't more gen. :(

And yeah, I'm with you. I like characters and plots.

Yeah, one of the reasons I'm not joining up either - but we can always enjoy the fruits of what DOES come out - everyone'll post their stuff to various comms eventually, lol!!

*hugs*
