Getting There

I've been really stressed, so I've found myself throwing myself into TV as an escape.
I'm in season two of Dark Angel now and...yeah. Way different. I'm not sure what I think. I like the characters a lot. I like the ideas and concept. Something is missing though. I can't quite put my finger on it.
But just finished "The Berrisford Agenda." Whoa.

What do you think of the virus that prevents Max and Logan from touching? I'll put my cards on the table: I thought that got old very fast.
There were episodes I liked, though, so I don't want to ruin it for you.

Oh man. I think it's what made me stop liking Max. There was something very wrong with her in S2. She always had attitude, but in S2 the virus thing made her bitchy, and not bitchy in a good way. I thought the concept was clever and all, but it should have been a limited storyarc of a few episodes and not the entire season. They could have kept the tension going without the virus.
But yeah. There were a lot of things I liked about the season and many things I didn't. So mucb lost potential and they focused on all the wrong things.

I remember not liking it that much when it first aired because I was expecting to see I had left last season and got something else entirely. Although, in retrospect, the characters are very enoyable--Alec is awesome, love him, and so is Joshua.

Alec and Joshua highlight the season for me. They were well written and well acted. What irks me - and you'll see me rant about it a little later - is that season 2 had so much potential to dive deeper into the whole genetics thing and they just totally went the wrong way with it, imo. Instead of it being military scifi like it was in season 1, with plausible possibilities, it jumped out of the realistic sphere and made it very campy scifi. I'll watch campy stuff without a problem, but it's not initially what I signed up for in the first place.

But The Berrisford Agenda. Oh, poor, sweet, messed-up Alec. I loved him before that, but that episode sealed the proverbial deal.

I didn't have much of a problem with having some bizarre transgenics. And I had been really interested in the nomlie angle since Pollo Loco. But they totally went the wrong direction with it, imo. They made all the escaped transgenics cartoonish and campy instead of treating them with the same level of seriousness they did with transgenics in S1. I think that would have cut the problem with s2 in half. That and the ongoing boredom of the virus and crazy snake people.
What worked for the show is that you could almost believe this was happening in s1. in s2, it was just another science fictiony show.
