Okay, so I did that Ideal Superman quiz and I got Dean Cain. Interesting. I'd post it, but my computer crashed and I'm too lazy to redo it right now LOL
Also, I'm sure you've all heard but...
Michael Rosenbaum and Kristen Kreuk will not be back as series regulars.

I love Lex. I love him to pieces. I am very sad about this. MR is my fave Lex out of all the Lex Luthors I have watched. For me, SV was all about Clark and Lex and the choices they made. It was a parallel journey. But, both he and KK are looking to negotiate some limited appearances so they'll still be around in some capacity. But I'll still miss him.
I'm sad for KK, but I admit she was my least favorite character. It's not that I hate Lana. I didn't like how prolonged Clana was and I also felt the writers had nothing to give her. As an actress, she must have been frustrated that her character really didn't have much to do. They certainly tried several times, and I appreciated the Small arc in S2. I *like* Lana this season. So it will be sad to see her not as a regular, but at the same time, I hope this gives the writers a chance to write Clark unattached and moving on in his life. Just please don't make her a martyr, PTB.
I assume that everyone else will be back.
We'll see what happens. If handled right, S8 could be pretty good. Maybe Clana can be put behind us, Clark can focus on journalism and his destiny, and we can see more with Lois, Chloe, and Jimmy.

Date: 2008-03-05 06:33 pm (UTC)That might actually be a Smallville I could get back into. I've just spent so much time recently trying to figure out how Clark could ever possibly become what he's supposed to be and coming up empty that it's been hard to watch.
I adore Michael Rosenbaum's Lex, so it'll be kind of sad to not see him as much, but maybe the limited appearances will make him even better. Because for me Lex has really seemed a little one-note and kind of vaguely bad, but not really. It'd be kind of nice to see Lex with a real axe to grind and grinding it.
My thoughts on Lana are so complex I haven't even worked through them enough for an actual post, much less a comment, because I think I really don't not-care about her as much as some of my SV posts would make it seem.

Date: 2008-03-09 04:56 pm (UTC)I'm still sad about MR. He's my fave Lex ever. I knew the actor had been talking about it for some time, but he does seme open to some appearances in S8 which will be great if it happens. Lex of S1-3 was exceptionally written. he was still pretty good in S4-5. S6...I don't know what happened. As much as I like the idea of Lex trying to take everything that Clark cherishes (in this case Lana) the Lex/Lana thing just did not work like it should have. I think it really damaged Lex's character. I've enjoyed him this season, though. And I also appreciate that Lex has different layers and complexities, even contradictions around him. Bringing him in at a limited capacity in S8 might be perfect for his character.
Lana is not my fave character at all, but I have no beef with her as a character. TPTB just made horrible choices in making her the damsel in distress and nothing more. They have been struglging to do something with her since like S2. Instead of trying to develop her into her own character, they kept with the boyfriends and the secrets and she just never really went anywhere. it's really a shame. i think she could have been a fantastic character.
So, hopefully, they'll do her character justice as the season closes and she'll settle into a nice comfortable friendship with Clark in whatever eps she has left this season and next.

Date: 2008-03-05 07:09 pm (UTC)I agree that the show really is at its best when it's dealing with Clark and Lex and the paths they have chosen to take. *sigh* Michael is going to be terribly missed.

Date: 2008-03-05 08:15 pm (UTC)OMG I feel exactly the same way. And it frustrates me to no end when people go on about how much the hate Lana because it's not even that she's a bad character, it's just that they have nothing to do with her other than keep her with Clark for five thousand years and then everyone gets frustrated with them because they've been together way too long and then people hate Lana. But KK's a pretty good actress (she's not as good as Allison, IMO, but she has been known to kick serious ass from time to time). I wish they had kept going with the badass!Lana they had at the beginning of S7, she was waay more interesting than regular!Lana and people actually liked her for the first time in a long time.

Date: 2008-03-09 05:07 pm (UTC)TPTB should have never made her sole purpose be the damsel in distress/everyone's love interest. That can only go on for so long.
But there have been times I geniuely liked Lana. I liked Lana in S1 and S2 when she was trying to figure herself out. I liked her in S5 when she was trying to learn more about the meteors and aliens. I liked parts in S6 when she was trying to find the truth out about Clark. And I've been liking her struggles in S7. She still is not even close to being my fave character, but some of these moments made her interested or sympathetic and I wish the writers would have built on that more.
I even don't mind the Clana that much this season> it has this broken, finality to it. I see two people desperately clinging to some fantasy that doesn't exist, and both are just not ready to let it go.
That is sad, but real and I appreciate it. The characters should learn from it. (I hope!)
So yeah, I'll be sad to see her go or to see her just make limited appearances. But hopefully with the appearances she has left, they'll do the character justice.

Date: 2008-03-06 01:49 am (UTC)I've always been more of a Chloe girl, no real taste for Lana, so that doesn't disturb me as much as Michael leaving. But, here's to hoping they get back on track, and Clark on track.
I am going to miss what little we'd get of Lex and Clark though. That relationship sold the show for me.

Date: 2008-03-09 05:01 pm (UTC)Why do I lose my fave characters in all my shows???
Hopefully, Chloe will be back because I love her, too. Lana is my least fave, but I'm still sad to see KK go. But maybe Clark will be able to move on and get on track now.

Date: 2008-03-06 06:19 am (UTC)I'm sad for KK,
Did she choose to leave?
I agree with you about Clark and Lex, too, but I kind of knew MR wouldn't be back, because...didn't he say that a long time ago that this would be his last season?
I've never liked the Clana thing, but I never hated it either. It got annoying at certain points, but it didn't ruin the show for me or anything. I've always liked KK and, while Lana was never written well, I also never disliked her. I don't love her, but have a fondness for her, because I like the actress and because Lana is a part of the show. It'll be weird for her not to be there.
As for MR and Lex--that's just a terrible loss, really. I'm not sure what the show can be without them. It could be like Happy Days without Richie or That '70s Show without Eric and Kelso. I hope not. *g*

Date: 2008-03-09 04:49 pm (UTC)I believe it's been confirmed that she's looking to be in at least part of S8. That makes me feel a little better. I'm tired of Clana like you would not believe, but she is a huge part of Clark's youth and his time in SV. As much as I complain about Clana, I don't think it's fair to dismiss her so easily. She's his first love.
The problem with Lana isn't the actress or the character, but how she has been written. She's basically the damsel in distress. Unfortunately, a lot of what made Lana LANA in the comics was stripped away from her.
Some incarnations of Lana had Lana very much like Chloe - close friend, spunky, inquisitive. But other versions have had her as the cheerleader, sweet girl-next door. Both versions are fine and I have no problem that they did the later. Only, they should have fleshed her out more instead of just making her the girl everyone wants and the damsel in distress.
I've actually been liking Clana this season. it's falwed and faulty and you know it's not working. The relationship just ins't meant to be, but neither one wants to recognize it yet.
Losing MR is a bigger loss for me since this show has been established on the two of them. The entire foundation of the early seasons were on Clark and Lex. I really hope that he does agree to some limited engagements like has been reported.

Date: 2008-03-09 04:40 pm (UTC)Like I said, I don't hate Lana. I started watching this show back in S1 and I knew what I was getting into. The biggest problem is how long and drawn out it has become, though I admit I am one of the few that have been enjoying Clana this season. It's broken and flawed and I feel like Clark and Lana are holding onto something that isn't there. For me, that aspect has been interesting because I've been waiting for that for so long.
I just want the Clana to come to and end and have the two settle into a friendship/ It's time for Clark to move on in his life.
