This was written for the Dan/Jan Archive Challenge. It's very short and well, not my best stuff but I wanted to show my support to the Dan/Jan folks. it's based on the challenge: revival :)

Dont worry [livejournal.com profile] aurora_novarum I haven't forgotten about you.

She stood in front of him, bathed in a simple yet elegant grace, a grace that he'd allowed to permeate his hardened shell long ago. He wasn't sure when it'd happened and he wasn't sure he'd ever know, but for once the how and why wasn't important to him. All that mattered was that she was here, now, standing there with the same playful smile that had captivated him when they'd first met.

Daniel said nothing as he stepped forward and took her into his arms. He felt her head on his chest, her hands on his back, her body shifting against him.

And they danced. Quiet, slow, swaying to the soft music that touched his bedroom. Nothing else penetrated their space; just the two of them, alone, comfortable and home.

He touched her hair, remembering the texture. He didn't want to let go. He never wanted to let go.

"Thank you," he said, still holding her close. "Thank you for everything."

He didn't wait for her to respond. He didn't wait for her to pull back and study him with her knowing gaze. He didn't wait at all.

Daniel swallowed hard and opened his eyes. He winced, the brightness of the gardens jarring him, but he quickly adjusted, his vision coming into focus.

"And?" the voice boomed all around him.

Daniel glanced at the Gamekeeper before he proceeded to disentangle himself from the pod. "It felt real."

The Gamekeeper clapped his hands, his face sparkling. "Oh excellent! Shall we do it again?"

Daniel shook his head. While it was tempting to keep on reviving Janet, living little snatches of life that had never been more than fantasies and missed opportunities, he knew better now. He knew he could let her go. He knew he could say goodbye.

Real or imagined, he knew they would always have that one last dance. And nothing would ever take that away from him.

Hmmm...a chance to say good-bye.

I think SG-1 knows in their heads that they could die on any mission, but it doesn't sink down into their hearts. And they *really* don't expect to lose a non-combatant like Janet. It had to have hit the military folk REALLY hard, like they had failed to protect her as they should. I'm sure it took a looooong time to work past that in addition to the regular grief of losing a friend.

I feel as though they didn't really deal with Janet's loss past the episode of Heroes (except for Ripple Effect), not as well as they did with Sam and the loss of Daniel the first time he ascended AND when he was gone the 2nd time for a while.

This was a nice good-bye, bittersweet but well done.

Thank you. I was always miffed that Janet's death never really was addressed, aside from Ripple Effect and that felt way too late. I mean Daniel's death impacted the show and the character for a long time. I loved that. It showed just how depe their bonds went. And while Janet isn't a main character, she was part of the foundation of the SGC. Her absence really should have had a greater impact. I felt like the writers just wanted to ignore what they did and swepe it under the rug :(

But thanks :)

Yes they did. It probably was due to the horrific fan response. Or maybe in spite of it. Who knows with TPTB?

Hey Izzue! ;)

Don't be too impressed. My writing has gone down in quality a lot. I have so much on my mind.

But thanks!

I found my SG1 icon just for you. I liked this story. I was very traumatized by Janet's death, and wish it had been addressed more fully as well by the series.

Excellent fic - the idea of him going back to the gamekeeper planet was wonderful, but I can understand him not doing it over and over again as it's just way too bittersweet. Thanks for sharing your muse with us!
