There had been no end.

He had kept chasing her. No rest. No reprieve. The Super Soldier's pursuit had been relentless.

She hadn't known if she would survive. She just knew that she had to keep going. She had to keep pressing forward. In the end, she knew that he would be there. He would be waiting for her.

And then it happened. Just when she thought she couldn't run anymore, it was over.

Sam exhaled, releasing some of the pain. As her adrenaline waned and reality set in, she felt the fear, the hurt, the shock take over.

But then there was the warmth of his touch, the comfort of his presence as he let her rest beside him. He held her – there, unshamed, in the open – making her feel real, protected, secure. He was her rock.

"It's okay," he said, whispering to her. "It's over now."

It was over. And she didn't have to run anymore.

Neither of them had to run anymore.

A beautiful testimony to a realtionship doomed to friendship and unrequited love. Very nice!!

Actually, I think that UST is the best part of their relationship. Makes things interesting and so much fun to write. Plus, deep, insecure UST is not the same as getting married and living happily ever after, so it wouldn't necessarily be like you were writing hardcore ship. If you were to write another, I mean. :)

This part of Sam/Jack doesn't bother me as much as some other people. I feel like it's a testimant to how much Sam and Jack put their careers and their duty to protect Earth first ahead of any kind of feelings they desire. It speaks to their strength of character.

I agree, which is why I tend to shy away from the stories where they "throw away" their careers so that they can live happily ever after, although if I remember correctly, I think I did write one of those things...

I like reading and writing S/J, but I'm just as happy having them paired with others or not paired with anyone at all. Its the adventures they go through and how they deal with their problems that I like the best.
