X-Files Movie a reality (or not) and where's the Daniel love?

So, lately there has been some rumblings over the next X-Files movie by David Duchovny. Now, DD has done this repeatedly in the past and nothing ever comes out of it. But he's at it again and seems to be confident that the next X-Files movie may just be around the corner.

But this time he's not alone in his assertion. Gillian Anderson has also chimed in and believes that this time it could become a reality.

As for SG-1, it's no secret I have much love for all the characters. Well, mainly the original cast, though I enjoy the new cast, too. Just a preference of mine. But lately, man, I've encountered much Daniel hate. Mind you, in the past, I've encountered Sam hate and Jack hate and hate for other characters, but lately I've seen much love for them. But where's the Daniel love? *hugs him* I feel very alone in my Daniel love.

X-Files...I was bad. I've never watched S9. I just...dunno. I liked Doggett. But by then, I wasn't too happy with the series. I hear that if this movie does get green-lighted, it will be a stand alone horror which would actually be nice, I think.

Seriously, why are people complaining about Daniel, and where are you hanging out that you're seeing this bizarre behavior? I've not seen it at all, but then my flist is pretty small, so maybe I've just been hiding in my comfy little "I love everybody" corner of the fandom for too long.

I'm trying to remain firmly in the "I love everybody" camp, but I still seem to find everything else. I'm very good at that. Blame my curious nature? I'm always sticking my nose where it doesn't belong.

Rest assured, it's not here on my flist because you all rock. It's more outside on the fringes of LJ and other places.

Daniel's my favorite fictional character, even more so than Mr. Spock, and that is saying a lot because I grew up loving Mr. Spock! I got into online fandom because of Michael Shanks and his portrayal of Dr. Daniel Jackson.

It's generalized. It's not anywhere on my flist. I'm trying to think exactly where I started to feel it...I think it was an offshoot of that whole big meltdown in the SGA fandom. So there was some SG-1 stuff my extension. And then it just went from there.

So my immediate reaction is like gah! I want some Daniel love!

I mean, I'm not overly fond of his characterization these days but I still love the character. I love them all. I need me some character love.

Daniel hate? Sorry, I live in a sphere of no hate. It's DANIEL, for goodness' sake. I love him like a rabid fangirl loves babyfic. Early earnest Daniel. Post descension, mysteriously buffed up Daniel. Throwing a fit in "A Small Step" Daniel. Wise, older and slightly jaded Daniel who was so melancholy at first seeing Atlantis Daniel. And omg, the conversation with Jack in Divide and Conquer? How perfect was that?

Sorry, got a little sidetracked there. I think my material point was that I love Daniel. You are SOOOO not alone. :)

I really shouldn't venture past the shiny gates of my flist. Because it can be scary out there. I'm happy that my flist generally loves everyone because then that makes me happy and when I'm happy I can enjoy the show and the fandom more.

I still love the pre-ascension Daniel, and am rather indifferent (but not hateful toward) post-ascension Daniel.

Just a continuation of the general hate, I think. I went venturing out because I was lookign for stuff to serve as a pick me up and oops. I never seem to venture into the right places. I should just stay on my flist.

I prefer pre-ascension Daniel to post-Ascension Daniel myself, but I can usually rationalize my way out of it. Or at least blame the writers because that's easier ;)

Sigh - it exhausts me when character hate bleeds out. Daniel is just Daniel and I love how layered he has gotten in the past few years. The more layers the better - for dessert or characters.

Since I am not emotionally invested in the SGA fandom, I will go and read different wank from it. And whoa. I don't know. That fandom has some issues. Sometimes I think it makes SG-1 look pretty tame. It was an interesting read from a psychological and anthropological perspective, though.

I can't fathom watching a show for 10 years, all the while hating one of the main characters. It took me all of 7 episodes to realize I couldn't stomach watching SG-1 with Vala around, so I, y'know, left rather than let that aggravation fester into something worse.

And of course it goes without saying that I can't fathom hating Daniel, of all characters. I've heard the argument he's hated because he used to get in the way of running down corridors and pretty, violent explosions, but that faded away post-ascension.

Or maybe he's hated because he's so pretty. ;)

Buh? People hate Daniel? I've heard of Sam hate, but Daniel? Are they smoking something? I mean, even if I have favorite characters, I still love them all (well, not so much Kinsey and Simmons, but they're minor and supposed to be unlikeable). Silly people don't know what they're missing. *boggles*

You are *so* not alone in the Daniel love. One of reasons I gave SG-1 a try was that the 3 minutes of Daniel we get in SGA's "Rising" made me love the character.

You have the people who honestly do not like a character. It happens. it's normal. But there are other people that will either spew character-hate or villianize a character because it gets in the way of their world view.

There are some Sam fans - not all, obviously - that see Daniel as a roadblock for Sam/Jack. Why? I don't even know. Some of the issue probably stems from the whole blow out back a couple of years ago, but that was before my time and I don't dwell on it. Then, there are some people - again not all - who hate Sam because she is a roadblock for Jack/Daniel. Those are the major ones I've seen, but I've also witnessed Jack fans hating Cameron. Jonas fans hating Daniel. Daniel fans hating Jonas. Cameron fans hating Jack. Jack villified in Sam/Daniel fic. Sam villified in Daniel/Vala fic...it's endless.

Teal'c normally stays out of the fight. I think his fans know something the rest of the fandom doesn't...

So, sometimes I just need some team!love or some character love. Lately, I'm feeling needy in the Daniel department.

The ones I've seen dissing Daniel in the past generally fell into two camps:

1) They don't like his "pacifist" attitude in a "miltary" show (even though some point out to them Daniel's not a pacifist, he will shoot, but that's not his first option), or

2)Daniel got in the way of their shippy designs for Sam/Jack, because they should be shagging instead of wasting time being friends with Daniel (didn't help that Jack/Daniel often had such great banter, while Sam/Jack, not so much), and/or they felt that Daniel fans were the most vocal segments of the anti-Sam/Jack group.

Engh. Whatever. To each his/her own. I like intelligent characters acting intelligent, yet still having human flaws. That's Daniel.

They seriously need to open their eyes. Daniel sure as hell shot dead the Jaffa without opening his mouth or blinking in Family Ties.
I think those that hated Pre-Ascension Daniel are more apt to like Post-Ascension Daniel.

As for group 2: Vala took care of the obstacle. Daniel wasn't in the way of Sam/Jack anymore.

The idea of a new XF movie...I don't know. I just can't see it being done well. But, I have no emotional attachment left to that show, so if it's awful I won't be crushed. I'd be curious to see what direction they went in with the story, at least.

Okay, seriously, I've never gotten the character-hate. There are characters I like less than others, and times when the way a character was written made me angry (but I can usually wank it so that their actions make sense to me), but for the most part there's no one on this show I really dislike (well, certain minor characters, but I think we're supposed dislike them). I can't imagine watching a show and hating one of the major characters. I've been bored silly by characters before, but actually hating them, not so much.

Fortunately, I haven't seen any of this on my f-list. I get annoyed enough when I see people diss Landry. ;)

I'll always love the X-Files. I hope to do a reviewing of it again soon since I was in high school/college when it originally aired and I'm much different now. Me either. I love all the characters in different ways. I've even warmed up to a Vala a little since they softened her in what I've seen as S10. (And my issue with Vala stems more from the fandom than anything else.) My faves are definitely the classic characters, especially Jack, Daniel, Sam and Teal'c. But I just recently finished watching S6 and Jonas wasn't bad. I'm a fan of Janet and Hammond. I really like Cameron. So...I just don't get the craziness, even if I have been known to spew some extreme dislike from time to time. I've gotten over it. Though, in the end, everyone is free to their own opinion, whether I like it or not. it just seems that the dislike gets excessive at times.

I really, really did not love the Daniel of season 10, and it makes me question who he is and was as a character always. I'm not prepared to forgive him yet, which is why I'm not watching earlier episodes right now. I don't want my dislike of who he has become to color my view of earlier Daniel in specific ways.

While I love Daniel, I am not really feeling the Daniel love right now. I wouldn't ever say I hate him, though. He'll always be one of my TV boys.

I still love him. He'll always be one of my favorite characters.

My problem with him lately is more of a writing related issue. The writers never write Daniel in his element, doing his linguist/anthropology/archaeology thing and that is what always stood out for me. I really want to see more of that. I know you don't like S10 Daniel. I like him better than S9 because at least in S10 I feel his personality is softer -- more in line with the Daniel I prefer. He was a little too aggitated in S9 for me to care, especially when he barely did anything all season.

But I still love the character.

But I can understand your pain. I recently read a thread that bashed poor Daniel terribly, saying he is stupid and careless, and all kinds of mean, nasty things. Grrrr

And hey, I'm with you on preferring the original cast. You may not have noticed, but Jack IS my favorite! lol But I'm starting to enjoy the others too. I just have to resolve to watch more episodes with Cam and Vala et al.

I fell in love with Daniel first, but I'm a sucker for that type of character. I quickly warmed up to Jack and Sam, and then finally Teal'c. I also love Hammond and Janet.

I'm kind of indifferent to Jonas, but I don't hate him. And I really like Cameron. Vala is a work in progress. Landry's not bad.

As for Jack, my Jack fangirl love really started to kick in during S8 since I knew he was leaving. When I realized no more Jack, I got very sad and started fangirling him like mad. So I'm very much a Jack fan now, but I'm still a big Daniel fan at the same time. I even consider myself a Sam fan and a Teal'c fan, though I don't get as crazy over them as Jack and Daniel.

All in all, I truly am a major classic team fan :)
