I signed up to write for Teal'c for [livejournal.com profile] stargatefic100. Why Teal'c you might ask?

1) While I've been seeing a lot of Teal'c fic out there, there is never enough ;)
2) Most of my larger stories are about the team with a Daniel or Jack flare. This gives the chance to do somethign different.
3) I write shorter Teal'c fics. If I had to do Sam, Jack, or Daniel it would probably take years ;)

So, below the cut is my table :)

I'm bad for starting things and not finishing them, too! That's part of my problem with The Hathor Legacy stuff. I have about five different things I've started and not finished. I lose interest pretty quickly, I think.

I think this does sound like a *lot* of fun, but I have no practice at getting the characters' voices--and no clue how to do it. I've actually got a bunch of writing books here that I was going to go through and use some of the ideas to help me go through my Nano novel and see if any of that was salvageable. There are some small parts of it that I really like... (It's not ever going to see the light of day as a novel, though.)

Anyway, I'd love to give this a try for fun, but then I'd actually have to let everyone see my terrible writing. lol I know I could write 100 small fics. My question is, would I want anyone to see those 100 fics? ;-) Do I want to put my "practice" writing out there for everyone to see? Eeek!

What zine is your Jack/Daniel frienship story going to be in? I'd love to read that, though those print zines are awfully expensive. Is the whole zine going to be Jack/Daniel friendship?

Yeah, you'd have to share ;) What I usually do with the characters voices is I think of an episode, a few episodes, whatever...I think about their dialogue and I think about how they carry themselves. Then when I sit down to write I keep that all in mind. I know I am the writer, but I think how would Jack react? What would Sam say? What would Daniel do? Why is Teal'c there? Things like that. I hear their voices in my head and I let them do the talking.

Sounds kind of insane but it works.

I don't generally do zines because my feeling is you really shouldn't have to pay for fanfic, but I promised one. It'll be in Ancients' Gate. It's your typical off-world team exploration stuff, but Jack and Daniel get separated, so it's mainly about them. Something's wrong with Daniel and he has to struggle to keep himself together--mentally and physically--and help Jack find Sam and Teal'c and get to the Stargate. It's action/adventure, character driven with a twinge of horror to it. I'm actually quite proud of it, even if many people will probably never see it! LOL

I'd say give yourself a couple of days to mull over it and practive a few blurbs. Use the prompts here and see if they give you an idea. If you find that you are writing and feel confident enough to post, then sign up :)

LOL I know. I hear that in my head, but it doesn't translate to the paper for some reason. That's why I was thinking of writing Mitchell--he's new and maybe wouldn't be quite so hard to write about. I love Daniel so much--too much, really. I have very, very specific ideas about who he is and what he'd do or so and it doesn't necessarily coincide with how others tend to see him. Worse, it comes out all wrong when I try to write it--mostly.

It'll be in Ancients' Gate.

Oh, awesome! If it's downloadable, I'll buy it. I used my birthday money to buy almost all of their zines when they were having that special last month. The ones I didn't buy were the author's choice ones (because they weren't included, I think) and Jack's Viking Sky because I really didn't care about having the illustrations or the story (or the story, really--reading it once was enough for me *g*). :-)

Heh, I never could get myself to finish Jack's Viking's Sky...

The author's choice was nice. Sort of fun in a way for the contributors, but most of the fics are available online anyway. So people who read would only be buying them to see fics all dressed up, fancy, and with pictures.

I have the most trouble with Mitchell! He scares me! But I'll be writing him again soon. I am always afraid he'll morph into Jack on me. I just keep remembering, he's Southern, he's Southern...that helps me a lot because my dad's from the South. I can write him and sound like I know what I'm saying ;)

Still scares me though. He might be fun for you to try, though.

And psshah to what people think. Write what's true to you. Not everyone in the world is going to agree with your vision. Most people don't really seem to be into my characterization, whther it's gen, ship or slash but I am not changing my view.

Just don't write sniveling man-babies. ;)

I had to and some parts of it were awesome, but it got squickier in a lot of ways, as you know *g*

I know, but I want to buy them anyway. I like having the stories sort of pre-selected and edited and all in one place. It'll be a while before I finish reading the other zines, though. I print out a story every once in a while to take to bed with me instead of a book. :-) (I know it sounds wasteful, but I save up paper that was printed out, but not needed to save and I print stories on the other side--or I use both sides of the pages. I add headers and footers with the story title, so if I ever dropped it, I could put it together. hehe)

Ooh! I hadn't thought of that. I've been reading a lot of Daniel/Cameron because I was reccing that this month, and it's been fun to see the different takes on the character. Some have him more "good ol' boy" than I see him. Some have him more jovial than I see him, but maybe they're right given the last couple of episodes. hehe

While Mitchell is Southern, he's not really a good ol' boy, really, but maybe he has some of that in him way down deep. hehe I actually like that Southern aspect of Mitchell, but I hadn't thought of trying to work that in.

And psshah to what people think. Write what's true to you. Not everyone in the world is going to agree with your vision. Most people don't really seem to be into my characterization, whther it's gen, ship or slash but I am not changing my view.

Really? Wow. I think your characterizations are spot on.

LOL But I want to! *g* No, I really don't, but I honestly want to go dark and deep (not a dark fic, but just deep emotionally) and I don't know how to do that. It comes out as sniveling man-babies! ROTFL! At least I can see it, though. hehe Actually, I don't think it's as bad as all of that, but definitely not what I intended. But I don't want to cop out and miss the mark emotionally either--they way they do on the show since season 3 - 4 and beyond, for the most part. I think that's why Abyss is such a great episode. They went there. When was the last time they did that, though?

In my NaNo story, though, I either ended up with icky ickiness or I copped out and wrote it superficially just to get it down. That's why I think there are some parts that I can work on, though. I know what's wrong with it, and just have to figure out how to get what I want.

anonymous? You afraid tyo post under your one name?? ;)

Not sure if you just didn't have time to sign in or didn't want anyone to see. The comment is screened. If you want me to lift it, let me know.

I don't think Mitchell is a good ol'boy, but he's sure nicer than Jack. Just like Jonas was nicer than Daniel. Different personalities. But I seem to get Mitchell when I think of him from the South. His voice clicks for me. And it's nice to have points of reference. But it's funny becauase as soon as I take the South out of him, I get flustered. So, it has to work for me.

You know, Daniel/Cameron totally squicks me out. I really can't stand it. I can't even buy a lot of the gen friendship fic. And I like both the characters. I just don't see them at the point of being buddies yet. It took Jack and Daniel a long time to reach the point they did so it's tough for me to buy the Daniel/Cameron fic out there. Over time, I'm sure I will be able to see it better. I don't think I could ever do the slash though. I am much too much of a Jack/Daniel OTP for slash.

Well, if you ever want a nice but honest opinion, you can show me what you got. I know you don't like criticism, but I'm not mean ;)
