Commentfic on Steroids

Long ago, I decided to play with a prompt at a Supernatural comm where Dean would have a vampiric relapse. It's just commentfic, I told myself. Something nice and short I can work on for fun. No commitment. No worries about the story getting away from me.

Months later, commentfic is done and clocks in at about 11,325.

Remind me never to do commentfic again.

(The story is currently off in betaland. I will post it when it's done.)

Sounds like me. One commentfic turned into Gemini. Another became "Who the Hell...."

Then we should know better, right? I always do this. I say I'll write something short and it turns into a monster. My small stuff ends up being over 10k or close to it and my "normal" sized stuff ends up being novel length.

I wrote one story for the SG-1 fandom that came in at just under 100k. It's insane.

How do you write commentfic? I've seen the term but don't understand how it works. Also, good work! That is a formidable sized fic!

It's supposed to be short fic - something you could easily come up with and write in the space of a comment.

That is how it works in theory. I haven't quite nailed it in practice.

Lol. Almost everytime my creative-mind latches onto an idea, it turns into this spiralling mess of epic proportions. I have way too many fanfic ideas rolling about my head (& Notepad)... I find it best to not start on them; and then hopefully, one day, the idea(s) will go stale and I won't care at all.

I'm aiming to focus more on my original stuff - I have too many started which aren't finished - so no more of this LOL

If it's commentfic it darn well better stay commentfic.
