There are days when I miss the SG-1 community. It had its low points, but it was a nice community once you moved away from the crazies. I used to have a lot of fun posting on forums and boards after a new episode aired and talking about the show with friends, whether newbies or vets.

I don't really get to do that with SPN. I tried the boards and the comms and such, and meh. I know I can always post here. I just...don't. Hmm. But yeah, I do wish I could get that same community feeling with SPN. I want a place to belooong.

Anyway, I enjoyed last night's episode. A little weird coming off Famine and all, and it felt displaces and even a bit surface-level for the boys, but it was a good episode. I'm more interested in next week.

Girl...you have read my mind. I've been feeling the same way and even went as far as creating a forum over on delphi (I was bored the other day) :) I've been going back and forth on whether or not to post about it on my flist to let folks now about it. I just wanted a nice safe wank-free place to just talk about SPN without the usual drama that comes with it.

I had considered doing that ages ago, but I have to face the reality that I am NOT good at managing such things. I'm an idea person. I get great ideas but lack follow through.

Maybe you should give it a try? See the thing is for me I'm not a Wincest person and that is the main chunk of this fandom. So everywhere I go either is not for me or is just way too depressing and wanky. You know?

Ditto.

There's been a few attempts to start wank-free/wincest-free discussion comms, but they seem to fizzle out sadly :(

I don't get it. There are loads of us who would love to have a conversation and discussion. I know it. Not to just pimp fic or picspam or art. Yet, it never really works. Weird.

Yeah, the whole wincest thing is a sticky situtation for me too. I didn't necessarily want to outright ban talk on wincest, since it's sort of canon (not that the boys are together) but that they know about Wincest written as fanfiction, so the way I work around it is that it's in the rules that people warn for it before posting about it. That way it should be easy to just skip over without it becoming an issue for those that don't want to read about it.

I took a lot of the rules from OS because I felt they were pretty fair and reasonable. If you are at all interested, I'd love to see what you think, specifically if you would feel welcome there based on the rules?

I've been spending more and more time on other places myself. I haven't quite found a niche yet, but I've established some dialogue with fans. I don't know if I'll ever get as involved with another show the way I did with SG1, so I'm just finding forums and message boards for shows I have a passing interest in.

I vote to start an SPN forum. :) Start an SPN livejournal/dreamwidth. I've never created a message board, but that could be fun too. *g*

;)

They really do work for the most part.

What I've noticed over the last three or four years is the lack of trolls that pop into chat rooms or stop by some of the forums. Once upon a time, like when we were on the mIRC chat rooms, trolls really were artists. They were creative. Then the I.Q.s dropped sharply and trolls got stupid. Sure, some were amusing (those were the ones that were so easily barbecued), but mostly they were annoying. Then, they just stopped popping in.

Did trolls become an endangered species or did they just find greener fields somewhere?

I understand where you are coming from. It's just a thing with me. I really, really don't want to be associated with that part of fandom. They can do whatever they want and that's fine, but I just want to be happy with what I love.

I'll certainly check it out. If it ever gets really heavy into Wincest territory, though, I'd probably end up passing.

I think it's a good idea though :)

I think trolls just became lazy. People invest in sockpuppets now.

LJ is kind of my niche, but I've been relatively quiet lately. I can't seem to get out of my withdrawn little buble for very long. There are days when I even think of just deleting my account, but I always manage to talk myself out of it.
I've shied away from starting any community or place to go because I am notorious for abandonment.

True. I think sockpuppets just lack a certain elegance that used to be found in the whole trollish philosophy. Sockpuppets really can't do drive-bys in any reliable way. They have to establish themselves as nuisances in order to troll, and that doesn't work in the long term.

I have a tendency to forget I've got an LJ. Real life keeps beavering its way into my cyber time.

I know how you feel. Recently I've been missing it, too. One of my friends updated her SG-1 fic and it actually kickstarted my muse into getting back into one of my WIPs. Most of the places where I'd post are still pretty dead, though, sadly. I miss talking about the episodes with other fans. Gateworld is still there, but my heart just isn't in it much anymore.

It seems like LJ is the big thing for SPN. There are a few boards for it, but they really don't appeal much to me either. There are some real crazies at one, the other seems to be mainly younger people, and the other... well, I like it and I've made some good friends there, but it's hard to stay caught up on it.

I enjoyed the episode too. It felt like something was missing with the way they didn't address what happened at the end of the previous ep, with Sam in the panic room and Dean feeling empty inside and pleading for help. But it was a pretty good one. I'm really looking forward to next week's.

It's kind of interesting for me. I adore SPN and the boys, but I don't like a lot of the SPN fandom. Yet I'm not out looking for a place. For some reason I'm just perfectly happy to watch and enjoy it by myself and I don't feel a need to go out and share or read different opinions like I did with SG1. I don't know why that is though. Maybe because I never felt I'm really a part of fandom.

Yeah, the SG1 comm was wonderfully inclusive in many ways. Haven't found that since.

I think I was really struck by the fact last night's ep was truly Bobby's ep, no one else's. Though I was really surprised we didn't get to see more fall out from the boys getting arrested. Hello they're both supposed to be dead after Colorado and the police station blowing up right?

From what someone else has told me, THIS ep was suppose to come before MBV...wierd.

Twas a good ep, but I needed more OOMPH after hiatus!

*hugs you*

It was filmed before MBV so it makes sense that it wouldn't take into account the events of that episode.

So I guess in my personal canon this ep will come first.

SG1 fandom had its issues, but it was such an inclusive place. I easily settled in and was still happy, aside from cranky moments, when I left the wank behind.

I'd really like that with SPN but it's just not happening. I have here, of course, but I guess I'm just nostalgic ;)

I think I'm feeling nostalgic. Back to the days when I could come online as an escape and chat with people who had things in common with me. I don't get to do that anymore. And SPN fandom is so so wanky.

I love LJ and I know SPN has a big presence here. It's just not very inclusive. And to be honest, I've been drifting a lot from LJ.

This episode was filmed before MBV, so that is probably why there is a continuity issue. In my personal canon I'm just putting it first.

It's weird. I want to be part of fandom and I don't. I guess I want my own version of fandom and not the fandom we have. SPN fandom as a whole is very wanky and whines more than SG-1 fandom ever did.

If the fandom was more discussion and fun based, I'd love it/ That's just the reality.

I'm right there with you. I've been feeling pretty nostalgic lately. I miss the good old days of the Yahoo lists, like Sam-Daniel-Rebellion and such.

I've really had to scale back my involvement in SPN fandom. I only stick to one site mostly, although I don't get there as often as I used to. I skim through one or two communities, but that's it. I get any further into it and the wank appears. Just can't do it anymore.

That's a good idea. I heard it was filmed before MBV, and I think it was also written before MBV. Would make more sense for it to come first.
