Castiel Fans?

There have to be Castiel fans out there that don't slash him with Dean, right? Or ship him around with people? Just classic Dean and Cas friendship folks? (If you can call their complex relationship friendship.)

I love Cas! And I don't like Slash (so, yeah). I don't think I could figure him in a relationship, he's kinda unemotional and not attached to people. I think he is starting to understand and admire Dean though.

*raises hand* I'm a fan of their friendship in a big way, but I don't slash them. And I know how you feel, which is why I have stopped looking at the Cas communities. They're pretty much obsessed with him and Dean getting it on, and that's just not my bag, baby.

Hey, you know what I just thought of? That the SPN LJ community might benefit from? A "Just Castiel" comm. As in no romance, slash or HET, just Cas. Friendships would be allowed and encouraged even, but no romantic fic. As much as I kind of ship him with Anna, I don't see why all Castiel fanworks have to revolve around shipping. He's plenty interesting on his own or from a platonic perspective.

Then again, that's also an idea that could crash and burn... SPN fans are pretty single-minded, LOL!

I get the vibe that because angels are nearly emotionless - or just not as emotional as people are - that they wouldn't really have that drive. So unless he fully fell, I just don't see Castiel in a relationship with anyone.

But I find him fasicnating and I love the relationships he has with other characters. I just can't really seem to find many people that focus on that aspect.

I think a lot has to do with discipline, because if you look, Cas was starting to gain some kind of emotion, but got dragged back to Angel Boot Camp. Anna fell, but gained her Grace back and she still feels emotion. I think angels are capable of emotion, but try not to have any.

If you rp, my game as Cas open. We're looking for him, John and Bobby. It may be a fun way to explore Cas' relationship with other characters and types of people. I rp Dean. (I added your AIM, feel free to IM me: KAZ 2Y5 Dean W)

I love them! I really have been interesting in their relationship since Cas first appeared on the screen, but I became more invested in him during ITGPSW. That talk he had with Dean in the park? That was so cool. Then I think it was On the Head of a Pin or This Monster at the End of the Book that made me a bigger fan. We were on the rocks in The Rapture, and When The Levee Breaks but I love him again.

The only problem is all I see for the poor guy is slash (and some ship). I have plenty of awesome slasher friends that love to talk about Dean/Castiel and that's cool, but since I don't see angels as sexual on this show(unless they fall), I can't really relate to that pairing. I just really want to talk about the gen aspect of it all, particularly the interesting parallels between Cas and Dean.

I agree with the discipline part. I've always held the belief that the angels symbolize control or limited emotion while the demons symbolize an excess of emotion. There is nothing definitive that says that is how it is, but that is how it helps me frame who they are.

See, I was, for a time, pretty fascinated with his relationship with Uriel. I still am, because you can't deny that they were brothers and compatriots, and I think Cas DID show some emotion in what happened between himself and Uriel. That was a huge step for him, which is part of why I love the connection he has with Anna, because she tries to lead him to the right places but she won't coddle or hold his hand. So it's not just his connection to Dean but his various relationships throughout the show that really draw me in.

And yes, I could definitely stand to see more meta about Castiel that isn't trying to convince me he should screw Dean. *head tilt*

It's kinda easy, it's kind of like writing a fanfic, but only taking one character's perspective or side. So if you take Castiel, you'd only write his actions, words and thoughts.

I think it's a good idea. I know that if I were to ship Castiel with someone, it would be Anna, but that would be a fandom/not-in-canon thing for me LOL

Aside from that, I think he's this really interesting character that has this cool dynamic with everyone. I'm not to the point where I am all about Castiel (and I don't think I ever will be since Dean firmly holds my heart), but he's interesting to me and I want to see/talk more about him LOL

I will admit that I mostly invested in Castiel in his relation to Dean, but that doesn't mean it's exclusive for me. It's just what I am most invested in for his character.

I loved Castiel and Uriel together because they were great foils. I thought that really highlighted their difference in approach. I loved how he was a "fan" of Chuck's work. I also really loved the interactions between Cas and Anna. Now, I'm curious as to Zach and Cas. Plus, there is the intriguing interactions between Cas and Sam.

So much to explore!

I agree. I know that I am making vast generalizations and black/white assertions, but I really do love how SPN has so much gray area to their characters :)

Vast amounts, because we have angels who aren't exactly good and have their own agenda. We also had vampires such a Lenore in season 2, who didn't kill just so they wouldn't be hunted down. It's what keeps this show interesting.

I love Cas and Dean together, just not together. I'm at a loss as to what to call their relationship, though, since to me it isn't really a friendship, but there is something there.

I love it for the actors, because if it wasn't for them the whole thing would fall apart. We have actors who are into their characters and care what happens, I mean, the amount of emotion from those boys, whoo! Also, we have some great writers and directors.

When Castiel first appeared I was sure Castiel/Dean was the perfect pairing for me and I still can see why it would be but... I can't actually get into it. I've tried reading Dean/Castiel fic but I never get further than a few lines. It doesn't seem to work for me. I think it's because I don't view Castiel as sexual on any counts... there's just nothing sexual about him. He's just, I don't know, "gen". I guess it's a thumbs up to Misha for playing the angel angle so well.

Anyway, conclusion is that I thought I shipped him but, as it turns out, I don't. Castiel is just Castiel ;)

I love Cas (and I love Misha, who is totally adorable in his own right), and I love Cas with Dean on the show, the way that's been shown so far. And I read pretty much EVERYTHING, but when I stuck my toe in the Castiel/Dean fanfic pool, I DID NOT GET IT. They do not work for me as a slash couple AT ALL. Is anyone writing decent Cas gen, though? I'd love to read it, if you have any. I'm not really interested in writing Cas, myself -- not from his POV, anyway, although I might be working on a series related to my Bela-in-Hell fic that would involve Bela meeting Castiel at some point and JESUS THESE PLOTBUNNIES WILL NOT LEAVE ME ALONE. I have to go think about possession and corporeality some more now.
