SPN Fic: Bright Spots

powerof3 wanted an SPN drabble about John. Nothing too angsty but maybe with the prompt "keep me where the light is." I don't think I managed to fill any of those requests :( I hope you like it anyway.

After a long night hunting, all John wanted was to see his boys. But by the time he got back, Dean had already seen himself and Sam to school. Nothing but the lonely solace of the hotel room greeted him.

He rested for a few hours until hunger woke him. Quietly, John walked to the fridge and opened the door. He frowned.

On the top shelf of the fridge rested a small plate with a sandwich prepared in the center. By the way the sandwich was neatly centered on the plate, John knew this was one of Sammy's masterpieces. But the generous helping of peanut butter nearly oozing from the sides confirmed Dean had been involved as well.

He reached in and grabbed it, pausing to lift one of the slices of bread. Apparently, Sam had gotten his hands on Dean's gummy worms, too.

John held the plate, daring not to eat the sandwich just yet. These were the moments he cherished, the ones where he could almost pretend he couldn't feel the pain. And though he knew the pain would come back, he could at least hold into these bright spots – his boys – to make it through the day.

Yeah, I am waiting for more John. I miss him. I hope that JDM's schedule and SPN's schedule get on the same wavelength so he can make a couple of guest appearance. And the budget too, of course. But it would be awesome to see him again.

I have this thing where I believe it should be mandatory that we see or hear him at least once a season ;)
