DA Fic: Lost in the Moment
Aug. 16th, 2008 09:40 amNot long ago,
twasdark did some prodding and convinced me to enter the Dark Angel Summer Mini-Ficathon. Since it was short and not much pressure, I caved and said why not? So I took a stab at writing a short Dark Angel fic. Not quite sure how I feel about it, but hopefully it will be okay.

----------------------------------
He was invincible. He was fearless. He was untouchable. So why did he feel powerless in her arms? There was something in the way that she smiled that made him weak, and it scared him.
494 remained speechless as Rachel held him tight. The rain hammered down on them, and despite his mental prodding to head back to the estate, he found himself grounded to the site.
She was even more beautiful in the rain. Her hair clung to her face and neck, while little rivets trickled down the top of her summer dress. 494 watched the water meander out of sight and wanted nothing more to press his lips to the trail of droplets it left across her collarbone. From the anticipation in her eyes, he knew she wanted the same.
Rachel abruptly pulled away and before he could reason as to why, he heard her laughing. Her laughter never failed to spark something inside him. It wasn't just the raw power of heavy want, but something warm, comfortable, and inviting. He loved it there, in that place she sent him, and didn't want to ever let go.
Through the rain and the soggy grass, Rachel spun, her laughter unending. She didn't seem to care how silly she looked or how ridiculous her dance appeared; she just was lost in the moment, happy, pure, and free.
With a grin, Rachel ran to him and tugged at his hands, urging him to join her in her frolic through the well-manicured lawn.
He didn't hesitate.
He laughed with her, their soaked bodies clinging to each other as the pellets rained down. 494 let the fear melt away as her slick hand washed away the water from his eyes, and he leaned closer, meeting her in a cold, wet kiss.
The scent of the fresh rain, the feel of her dewy skin, the taste of her strawberry lip gloss – they overwhelmed his senses. He couldn't think. He couldn't speak.
In that moment, there was only her, him, and sound of the rain.
He liked the way her eyes sparked with fire and life. He liked the way she looked at him, through him. He liked the way she made him feel like he could take on the entire world or how she could make him quiver from her gentle touch.
He wasn't sure how long they danced, how long they chased each other and tussled in the rain. He just knew he felt an energy that he'd never felt before, not even on his best and most productive days at Manticore. This was different. This was somehow better.
494 didn't want this to end. His target could stay locked up in business meetings indefinitely for all he cared. He just wanted to savor this moment forever.
He felt so alive.
Rachel made him feel human.
Today he wasn't just X5-494. Today he was Simon Lehane. Today, he was human.

Date: 2008-08-16 04:00 pm (UTC)Btw, I have been mulling over the tutor thing. I'm absolutely interested, but my old insurance days are coming back to haunt me. I keep seeing liability issues and I'm trying to think around that.

Date: 2008-08-16 05:24 pm (UTC)Wow! What a great little piece! It is so beautifully written - you really captured Alec's wonderment at Rachel, which Jensen did such a great job of portraying. There are so many great lines in this. Here's an example of one of my favorites, though:
He laughed with her, their soaked bodies clinging to each other as the pellets rained down. 494 let the fear melt away as her slick hand washed away the water from his eyes, and he leaned closer, meeting her in a cold, wet kiss.
Love the last line, too. Great job, hon!

Date: 2008-08-16 05:49 pm (UTC)Alec is intriguing. I'm mostly interested in the Ben/Alec parallels and it's become a big inspiration for an original story I'm working on. I wish the show could have gone deeper into the whole Ben and Alec thing, as well as just going deeper into his character and how he was changing and adjusting to the world. I feel sort of short changed that the show got canceled and therefore his character felt incomplete.
So he's not my fave Jensen role. (I'm hung up on Dean.) But if he'd had the chance to take the character farther, I think I would have really been hooked :) He really is one of my fave characters on DA and I loved The Berrisford Agenda :)

Date: 2008-08-16 08:14 pm (UTC)Anyway, you really did a great job. I don't read a lot of het, but I thought that relationship really worked for Alec and made sense for him, so it was fun to read even just a little more about that. Your story fit right into canon in a nice way, though even if it hadn't, I probably still would have loved it. :-)
