--------------------------------

Dean stared at the lifeless reflection in the mirror.

They said it was normal. They said the pain would eventually fade.

But they were wrong. The doctors didn't know nothing. The stupid exit counselors they'd forced on him didn't get it. Hell, even Sammy couldn't understand.

This wasn't just pain. It was something more, something sinister, something that crept through him, eating away at the fringes of whatever was left of his soul. It spread like a cancer, through his blood, his bones, pulsing just beneath his skin, as it consumed him whole.

Soon, there would be nothing left. He could feel himself slipping and the worst part was he didn't even care.

All he was left with was a shell, an empty husk staring back at him through the glass, waiting for the day death finally caught up with him.

Until then, he would deal with the surging numbness the only way he knew how.

He'd keep hunting.

Oooh... nice. The resignation is really palable. Well done.

Thank you :) Just spur of the moment "take a break fic." Or, procrastination at its best LOL

Wow, great job with this. You paint Dean's numbness and resignation well. It fits in well with his unwillingness to talk about John's death in the next episode.

Very nice job :)

I`ve always asked myself how it must have been for Dean. He was more or less ready to let go, and then he was dragged back.

your story made me thing about all of this again, poor him.
