I don't know if it's just something about me or what, but a lot of times (both online and in face-to-face interactions), people seem to want to pour out their troubles to me. I try not to give tons of advice on situations that are none of my business, or that I don't have lots of background knowledge on, but apparently being a listening ear is good enough for some people.
I've actually found internet relationships easier to keep up than RL friendships, probably because of the timing thing. One of my best friends, the one I've known the longest, actually lives in Australia, and we get to see each other often because of my wacky sleep cycle. Plus with internet stuff, you can email someone any time of the day and they'll get back to you whenever they're around. So that's nifty.
Fandom certainly is fun, so long as there are no ship wars or wank going on nearby. ;)
