I really really loved this, and for a while I was convinced the boy was Orlin (just for that added layer of meta tragedy)
But I adored the way that Daniel slowly begins to feel a sense of kinship with this boy, and identifies so strongly with his fierce determination and also that lingering yearning for acceptance.
The notebook was a very poignant touch, very personal and just the sort of thing Daniel would do.
