I wrote this some days back but never posted it. I needed some kind of exercise to get me writing again since I've been so busy with RL. This helped break the ice and I've been able to work on various projects since.

------------------------------------
There were some moments that would stay with Jack forever.
Like his first model plane or his first telescope, both of which had steered him towards the sky and the stars. But there was also his first day in uniform, the first time he'd watched Sara walk across Freddie's Field, the first time he'd soared across the open plains of clear blue sky.
The first time he'd killed a man.
He couldn't forget the day Charlie was born or the day Charlie was taken from him. His first loss. His father's death. The first time those Iraqi bastards had broken his fingers.
He'd always remember that late August night, long after the sun went down, making love to Sara behind his cabin in the woods.
Charlie's first game.
Charlie's last breath.
That first time through the Stargate when he'd been so cold, so empty, so worn, wishing to disappear and absolve himself of all his sins. That first time back, hoping to find forgiveness in her arms again.
The first time SG-1 became a team. Their first victory. Their first failure.
Losing Daniel. Losing Carter. Losing Teal'c.
His first time at Hammond's old desk. His first time realizing just how hard it was to be Hammond.
The defeat of the Goa'uld.
Moving on.
The end. The beginning. He couldn't tell the difference anymore.
Not that it mattered. The memories, both the good and the bad, mixed with pleasure and pain, blended into one damn mess. But it wasn't a mess that Jack would ever forget. That mess of memory would stay with him forever, or at least as long as he lived, and as long as he knew his friends – his family – needed him.
THE END
