You know I had to save the best for last, right?

SG-1 - both the show and the team - has always been a sum of its parts. One of the reasons why we love these characters so much is in how they relate to each other. It's not all puppies and kittens: SG-1 fight. They don't always agree. They don't always get along. They certainly don't see eye to eye. But the beauty of the team is that despite all their differences, they come together as one functional unit and get the job done.

Team truly is love.

I have no possible topics today beause I want you to express the joy of the team in any way you can. This can be classic team, S6 team, the team reunited in S7, Sam's team, Cameron's team, or S10 team. Heck, even the supporting characters that make SG-1 even better. Share the love. Send me drabbles and ficlets that everyone can share. Send icons, caps, pictures, meta, thoughts.

Let's thank the team.

Thanks, SG-1 for 10 splendid years of entertainment. I might not have been with you that entire time, but I'll never forget the fun, despite the ups and downs. And I intend to keep the love alive even after the series draws to a close tonight.

I woke up this morning at 5:30 and my first thought was, It's today. and felt incrediablly sad. Before I began to prepare for the day, I slipped in a DVD of COTG, climbed back into bed to watch the first hour as the sun came up. I felt I needed to commemorate the beginning and the end of something that has had such an impact on my life. I smiled as each member of the team appeared and marveled at how young they all were and how innocent and untouched they were. I thought about all they would be going though, how they would change and grow, how they would suffer and how they would triumph. I felt sad and proud like a mom sending off her babies into the world. I am so going to miss them.

Yes, it's just a TV show, but what a show.

I think back and remember the first show, when I finally got the DVD set of the first season, and it was, if not amazing with the mix of characters and cache of a mysterious round ring in the present day, amazing for the sense of adventure all of the characters/actors managed to get across.

The wonder got old for them after five years, but was zapped back into being with Jonas (yeah, I know, but I don't think he was *that* bad as a concept) for a while.

I miss that sense of wonder and adventure of the first team, and wish that jaded points of view and blaseness (is that even a word?) had never been written in. Much of the later years sunk into that blase tone, and new characters added into the team later just emphasized it.

I still love the original team and their wonderful interactions to a new, bold universe filled with bombastic aliens and danger and exploration.

Yes, indeed. In the end, we all know it's just TV, but this show really took us on quite a ride. :)

The wonder got old for them after five years, but was zapped back into being with Jonas (yeah, I know, but I don't think he was *that* bad as a concept) for a while.

I never thought he was a bad concept. I am not Jonas' biggest fan by any means, I just feel that TPTB failed in the execuation of a pretty decent idea.

I do admit that I like that the jaded attitude was added to the series because they couldn't stay with that sense of wonder forever. The trails they went through demanded that kind of change. At the same time, the extent that it went and the way they never allowed for recovery to reclaim that wonder with added maturity is what has disappointed me.

(In fact, I feel like most of the sense of wonder was depleted with the addition of the fugly ships and the lack of focus on the Stargate itself. Independent on who left the show or came in, whether we're talking S6, S9, or S10, the change of emphasis on ship travel versus Gate travel killed the adventure aspect of the show, for the most part, aside from some stand out gems.)

But I still enjoy the show and I still adore the classic team and that sense of awe they had and the worlds they brought us to. And I can't forget some of the people I've met in fandom.

You don't think of watching a show as being a life changing experience, but it can be. It was an earlier television show that brought me new friends and experiences.

I swore that I'd never get involved in a fandom again. And then I dipped a toe in the SG-1 water, and here I am with some new friends and trying on new things. I can't complain about that--even if fandom does frequently frustrate me so that I stay somewhat on the fringes.

But, to the topic at hand: Team. That, to my mind, is the shining star of our show and a primary reason that it enjoyed such a successful and loyal following. You could see that these people cared about each other. And the relationships were real: they'd disagree, hurt each other's feelings, and step on toes sometimes. But they were also there for each other 100%. Even if they were at odds, could count on the others to be there.

The Lord of the Rings is on my mind because I'm using a quote from one of the movies to help set the context for a story I'm working on. I'll use a different quote for the Team: "the Fellowship, though eternally bound together by the bonds of friendship was disolved..." (The quote is approximate, but I think it's true to the spirit.) I think that term Fellowship applies to SG-1 and it's extensions. People may come and others may move on to new adventures and challenges, but the bonds of friendship, love (not that way), and shared experiences forever bind them together.* I see them as people who could not see each other for five years, meet up, and pick up exactly where they left off. (In reality, I believe they would always remain in contact with each other in some form, but you know what I mean, I hope.) It's a special thing. And one that I'm glad has graced my television screen.

*Except for poor Jonas, who everyone seems happy to pretend never existed.

I might be a rabid Daniel fangirl, and a only-slightly-less rabid Jack fangirl, but The Team is the real reason I watch this show. The way they work together, the way they fight together - they complement each other, and make The Team more than the sum of its parts. (On a side note - this is why I'm almost militantly team-gen-centric when it comes to SG-1 fic. I love the characters, but I love their interaction as a team at least as much.)

There's a reason it's called Stargate: SG-1, not just Stargate - The Team is key.

And yes, The Team does need capital letters :)

I was thinking of those who hated the character. I agree that Jonas was better in concept than execution (though we should be cautious about using that word in conjunction with Jonas!)
