For sequel purposes, I always had it planned that Jack would take him to her, partly because he knew that it was important for Daniel and partly because he didn't want a grocery store type incident occur. Always best to nip it in the bud before it gets out of hand ;)
Still not sure if I ever will do a sequel because OC's are tricky. If you focus too much on them they can become Mary Sues very very easily. I'm of the opinion OC's should add insight into the main characters and not become a way of self-indulgence for the author. But it can be hard to do.
