Over the past few months, I've been making changes on my LJ. I've been moving toward keeping this journal primarily fannish and less personal. It's not that I don't trust my flist - it's that this is a very open and public space and sometimes I don't think we realize just how anyone can be watching. I have some other reasons too, mainly due to the field I want to enter.
I have no desire to go friends-only, though.
You'll still see personal posts. I'm not about to become a robotic and personless poster. Those posts will probably be fewer, depending on my mood and the situation, and be on filters if necessary.
Most of my personal posts are gone. I'm still in the process of clearing up posts, so if you're browsing, you might bump into some locked links. I'll be fixing those as soon as I can.
I've also been noticing for the past few month or maybe even the past year, I've become very...vanilla. Maybe it doesn't come across that way online, but I've noticed I've been censoring myself way way more than normal. Part of it stems from my core value of being a diplomatic and tolerant person who hates to see fights. But I also think part of it comes from some past baggage where I've allowed my voice to be silenced. My journal is for fun and interacting with people who sometimes share my views and sometimes don't. While I still stand by my principles of tolerance and healthy adult debate, I am going to be voicing my opinion more, whether it's fashionable or not. I still believe we all can have opinions and be respectful.
As for writing, I've come to the conclusion it's always going to spill onto this journal no matter what. I can't fully separate my fannish self from my storytelling/writing self. But the writing related stuff will still remain on my other journal.
I just wanted to give you all a heads up. As always, I'm welcome anyone to comment on my LJ, whether they agree with me or not. I'm grateful for you all and thanks for making my flist such an enjoyable and varied experience :)
