Pick a Fic

I'm very indecisive. I can never settle on one thing. I have tons of fanfic to finish for SG-1, short and long, so I'll leave it open to you. For my longer fics, which fic do you think I should finish first?

[Poll #908850]

There's no guarentee I'll write the one that gets the most hits. I've done this before and I wrote the one that didn't really grab anyone. That turned into A Priori. But, hey. You never know. Anything to nudge me in the right direction. I'll work on the short fics in between. And they are all team fics.

Now, back to the original short story I'm working on. Yay for writing :)

I vote for Partitions 'cause I wrote a X-over fic where the gang goes to Machu Picchu and meets up with Mystery Inc and I like those two civilizations.

Scooby Scooby Doo!

Yeah, this one would be based on the Mayan Popul Vuh. Ever heard of it or read it? It's pretty interesting. I've been meaing to do it for a while but I get sidetracked easily.

I am totally convinced that Shaggy is Michael and Jenny's son, and Alex thinks so too. Ok, maybe he was just humoring me. ;)

I haven't heard of Popul Vuh, but I'll be sure to look it up.

He is their son, omg!

And if you do look up the book, Zipacna is in it ;)

Tough choice between 'First Encounters' and 'Paranoia', but I went with 'Paranoia' because it looks like it has potential for some dark and gritty stuff, and I just don't see enough of that that's any good, and I'm confident yours would be good and fairly confident it wouldn't be shippy.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I've been working on First Encounters forever. it's tougher than it sounds. The idea is so cliche...it's more comedy than drama the way I'm writing it. And trying to recpature movie era Daniel isn't very easy. It will get done some day.

Paranoia is more up my alley. I love head case stuff so much and tend to run with it. And it gives me the chance to explore some of the darker tones of the show as the paranoia deepens. But we'll see. I've very torn. I want to write them all right now and there is only one of me. Only so many hours in the day LOL

None of them are shippy. All gen. If people see ship, that's up to them.

Hope you don't mind me butting in here a moment.

You know, I picked First Encounters because I like glimpses of their earlier selves but if it's more comedic, I'll probably go for Paranoia (which was tied with First Encounters anyway) mainly because I've been more into darker stories lately. Though of course I'd like to see both. ;) Out of curiosity, were you planning on including Jack somehow in Paranoia? I'll read it either way but I was just wondering.

None of them are shippy. All gen. If people see ship, that's up to them.

I've actually been looking for more gen stories because I tend to read slash mostly (particularly J/D) and I wanted to start checking out some more gen. However, I'm having some trouble because I keep running into what are labeled gen but actually have obvious J/S or D/V references and those are two ships that I don't want to see either on the show or in fanfic and outright references to them in a gen fic throw me right out of the story. So I've been very cautious lately when looking into gen but I trust you so I'm looking forward to your fics.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh thank you. It's nice to hear that many people trust that I'll stick to my word on a story.

Yeah, to tell you the truth, First Encounters is more on the comedic spectrum. It's one of those stories that has a serious issue (assassination) but it comes off sort of light and funny at first and then grows more serious as the story progresses. It's just the way this story decided to be told.

Paranoia by nature would be darker, more dramatic with light moments. Since I'm a classic team nut, I always manage to sneak Jack into any later season stories. With the crossover fic, he has a very small part. But in Paranoia, he has a decent part that I've planned so far. I like to start things off in the middle of things, so he's right in the action of the opening scene. Hopefully, it will come off as well as I hope it will.

Oh thank you. It's nice to hear that many people trust that I'll stick to my word on a story.

I hope I didn't come across as rude or anything when I said that (like hopefully I didn't accidently imply that you wouldn't stick to your word otherwise because I definitely didn't mean it that way). I think it's hard sometimes because a lot of people have different ideas of what "gen" means and it's kind of comforting to know how an author feels about it before getting into a story. I don't really blame people when they let ship (or slash) preferences slip into their gen fic because I can understand that it can't always be helped, it's just not something that works for me personally so I tend to like being warned first at least.

I've really been enjoying your fics which I've just been getting a chance to read and these all sound like great ideas. I'll look forward to seeing them.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no offense taken. Everyone defines gen differently. So it makes sense :)

[identity profile] sela21k.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I voted for "Unspoken" because I love the original team dynamic.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
This is actually the one my inner fan wants to write the most, mainly for the Jack slant and to explore the early team. but that requires me to watch S1. Poor me ;)

[identity profile] sela21k.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Awwwww.....

Well, a true artist suffers for their art so have at it. :D

[identity profile] 6beforelunch.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I voted for First Encounters because that plot is one of my favorites. It's just always fun. *g*

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hasn't it been done ninety-eleven times already? LOL

[identity profile] inyron.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
I always choose the time travel choice. I sat down to watch the Golden Globes the other day, and ended up watching Back to the Future part II instead, because the GGs just didn't have enough time travel in them.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a shame. The GGs just don't have the amount of time travel they used to.

[identity profile] teilani.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
I’ll pipe up and mention my vote for First Encounters because I haven’t actually liked or really watched the past few seasons of SG (though I’ve vaguely followed what’s been happening) but I do adore the early show. Also, if there’s a chance I can read something that would amuse me, I’m sold. :) Still, given what I’ve read from you to date, chances are I’ll enjoy whatever you choose to post, even if it from later in the series.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I much prefer the early seasons to the later seasons. But it's almost done now, so I'm sticking it out until the end.

And thanks :)

[identity profile] mediatingmentor.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Someday I might get into why, but I completely loathe time travel in virtually all ways it has been represented in the shows, perhaps save for "1969" and "Before I Sleep". I'm going to have to go with the ghosts. ;)

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I like time travel. It's never done right and most of the time it is full of plot holes, but it's fun. Even 1969 and Before I Sleep have issues. Time travel is never done consistently. And I'm not saying I could do it any better. It's just a topic that is a very hard to write because as far as I see it, it can't happen ;)

[identity profile] mediatingmentor.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why I don't like it; it's inconsistent. The writers of Stargate apparently can't decide what form of time travel they're going to go with, it's horrible. And don't even get me started on what a screwup I think "Moebius" was *hates that episode with a passion because of how it totally Did Not Make Sense*. XD

[identity profile] whisper99.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm torn between the first and last ones. Though...dang, Partitions is intruiging too...hrm.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll just have to see what tickles my fancy first! I'm working on original stuff now and that tends to be my priority, but I still want to finish up these fanfics too.

[identity profile] meg-tdj.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
TIME TRAVEL! *stamps foot* Or you'll never get your Jack fic... :P

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2007-01-19 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
JACK!!!!

I'm trying. Do you know how hard that fic is to write? it's so hard!

[identity profile] meg-tdj.livejournal.com 2007-01-19 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
So is the Jack fic. :P
