Surfing
I was surfing around, looking for any online deals for Christmas when I came across more recent SG-1 covers.
Now, I'd only seen the old covers, so the redesign to these gave me a shock. But they are neat. They have more of a sleek, stream-lined feel, and a sci-fi edge.

I'm not into the franchise anymore, but these brought a smile to my face. I'm happy with my old ones though :)

Every so often I like to watch the classic season reruns on SciFi or my old DVDs, but I'm not as into it as I used to be.

Though, my SG-1 love was mainly eroded by the direction the show took in the later seasons. I know many disagree with me, and that's fine, but I could only try to convince myself for so long. It's the early seasons I can still look back fondly on.

The early seasons (1-3 or 1-4, sometimes 5 if I feel like it) were top notch for me. I especially liked 1-3 because of the team feeling, though S4 was hilarious and full of some good conflict.)
I enjoyed S5-7. Season 8 was pretty awful, but if I would have ended it, I would have ended it there. I liked how they ended on a team note.
There were aspects of Season 9 and 10 I liked, but they strayed too far from the basis of the show. The actors seemed to not really be offering their best performances. And it just didn't make much sense - so much tell and not enough show.
If you watch the series as a whole, you can see a definite decline.

X-Files:
This was my fave show ever until SPN surplanted it.
I have the same feelings with this show. I found the early seasons (1-4) to be pretty solid and interesting, where the character felt real and the stories were intriguing. The mythology didn't bog down the series.
In season 5-7, they allowed themselves to experiment more and some of my fave eps of the series come from this time. (Same with SG-1, actually.) However, the characters started to loosen up too much where I started seeing more of the actors than the characters.
S8-9, not my thing. I watched S8 and I rather enjoyed Doggett but S9 was so bad (in my eyes) that I quit and only came back for the finale.
How about you? You brushed upon it in your comment.

So basically, I really loved every season up until 8, minus the myth-arc episodes. Season 8 was bad. Season 9....was not as good as the the others, but better than 8. And it had some decent episodes of its own, though lesser. I liked the follow up to "The Lone Gunmen" though the ending was kind of petty. I also liked the episode in which Burt Reynolds is God.
Season 6 is my favorite, so to speak. It's not anything about it in particular, it just contains a lot of my favorite episodes.
And ditto on SG-1. Some of my favorite episodes too are in that season 5-7 period. Though I do think that the earlier seasons were a bit stronger. 8 and 9 were just sad, though I do love Ben Browder, and I liked Vala as a foil for Daniel.

With X-Files, I started in S1, gave up after a bad episode, but came back in S2. So I watched it as it aired for most of the series. My fave seasons are easily S1-4. But some of my fave episodes aired in S5 and S6.
I started watching SG-1 in S7, but I was watching the reruns at the same time. S4 in reruns is what hooked me, so I have a fondness for it. I do love the early seasons best, though.
I wish I could have liked Vala. I hate her character, LOL. I really liked Cameron though. And Ben Browder is mighty fine to look at.
I think maybe if they hadn't kept changing Vala to suit the story and left her as an antagonist/gray character who was recurring and had introduced Cameron a bit different AND not had such a crappy plot, the later seasons of SG-1 might have fared better with me. Alas, they did not and the overall story and writing just was too bad for me to denial it anymore :(
Funny, with Smallville, another show I watch, the show was pretty good in the early seasons, became remarkably terrible in its middle seasons, and I find it once again very strong and compelling in its final season. But that might be the nature of a show where you know how it ends.
I know SPN is pretty divided right now on that show, but I'm loving this season. I could do without soulless!Sam, but everything else is fascinating me :)
Then again, I love monsters and they were my fave part of XF :)

I'll be happy when we get regular Sam back, but I have to admit that now that Souless!Sam is out of the closet, I kinda like him. (Maybe it's just my allergy to angst).

But I am not obsessed enough to buy the WHOLE thing just for snazzy looking covers LOL

...nah, I'd still want to spend it on something more useful. :P
