Well, I started watching the x-files in season 6, so that really set my view of the show. It's what hooked me. I don't know if I would have gotten hooked on it for the myth-arc- I never really liked it- but on the other hand, I started watching at a point where it was pretty obvious that that the myth-arc was never going anywhere. But what I did like was the brilliant mix of horror and humor, and the easy, comfortable relationship between the leads. You know, two people who knew each other really well- both the strengths and the weaknesses- and who have gone through so much together that there's this solid if unspoken trust and reliance between them.

So basically, I really loved every season up until 8, minus the myth-arc episodes. Season 8 was bad. Season 9....was not as good as the the others, but better than 8. And it had some decent episodes of its own, though lesser. I liked the follow up to "The Lone Gunmen" though the ending was kind of petty. I also liked the episode in which Burt Reynolds is God.

Season 6 is my favorite, so to speak. It's not anything about it in particular, it just contains a lot of my favorite episodes.

And ditto on SG-1. Some of my favorite episodes too are in that season 5-7 period. Though I do think that the earlier seasons were a bit stronger. 8 and 9 were just sad, though I do love Ben Browder, and I liked Vala as a foil for Daniel.
