Supernatural Con Clips

Ack, I'm spamming today. It's because my anxiety is flaring up.

I just finished watching the con clips from this past weekend over on youtube. Overall, they were a lot of fun to watch. Jensen and Jared are a hoot together. I liked those the best. Jared as always is really funny and high energy while Jensen is more thoughtful. It's great to watch them. I'm happy that I have taken a shine to actors that are generally nice and talented. I really wish the best for their careers.

Though, I admit that some of the fan behavior makes me cringe and makes me embarassed to be a fan. Sometimes I really want to go to an SPN con and I entertain going (if I had the money) but it's some of the behaviors that make me think no way. One clip it even looked like Jared wasn't pleased and that guy is always bouncing. But overall, the fans are nice. I just get anxious with the really extreme parts of fandom.

I highly recommend them, but there are some vague spoilers for some upcoming episodes.

I hear you on the fan weirdness. I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but it kind of upset me to watch some random woman make Jared as flustered as he got when she wished him luck on his "pursuit of Jensen". I don't think I've ever seen Jared get offended before, and that was awful close. I get it. People ship them, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. But do they really think that is endearing to either of them? That people take their friendship the wrong way and confront them like that? Honestly, people can like whatever they want to! That's their right. I just think it's in terrible taste to act like your fan-stuff is canon in front of the actors. O_o So uncomfortable.

Also, I LOLed when someone yelled out Wincest, and Jensen said, with narrowed eyes, "WHAT? ...I heard that." And Jared added, "that's not funny." And they moved on. I think that speaks for itself. :p

One last thing to rant on, and then I swear I will shut up. Why can't they let Jensen be himself? It's like they want him to get onstage and dance like a trained monkey. "Do Eye of the Tiger! Say sonofabitch! Do the cat scream!" IF YOU WANT TO SEE THAT, THEN WATCH THE EPISODES. Jensen is a real person who is NOT Dean and deserves a leeettle more respect than that.

*gets off soapbox* See what you started? LOL!

Honestly, I loved the con footage. I just cringe at those moments is all.

You know what the sad part is? Look, I really hate Wincest and J2. I do. I hate it. But the people I know who ship it are good people. They are nice people and they know the difference between fantasy and reality. So these people? They make the friends I know look BAD. And that ticks me off. It's a poor reflection on fans as a whole and the Wincest or J2 people that really aren't batshit crazy.

I heard and saw the "pursuit of Jensen" thing, but I cou;dn't hear what had set Jared off enough to get really serious with "that's not funny." Now I know. That's too bad.

I just think some fans blur reality. It creeps me out since I doubt most fans are this way. And the actors are people. They have distinct personalities. Jensen doesn't like to perform like that on the spot. Stop asking him. Jared seems a little more outgoing, but that is his personality. I just think people should respect boundaries is all.

But enough with the not nice stuff. The clips were great and to watch them joke and laugh and banter was so much fun. You can tell they are good friends and really enjoy having fun :)

Same here. I really hate both those parts of fandom, BUT I have met some really nice, sane people who just happen to like those things. So it really makes me wonder where these crazies are coming from. Then again, there are insane HET fans and GEN fans and so on. It really is an individual thing, but I wish they could hold their tongues, either way.

I didn't mean to start a rant! I apologize. Like you said, other than that, the videos were great! Jensen was actually doing a great job of being comfortable with the fans. I really love watching how comfortable they are with each other, like any great duo. I think it reminds us all of what makes this show work, and that's brotherly chemistry! :D The moments where they were doing stuff like interrupting each other and Jensen stealing Jared's hat... They are such brothers, LOL!

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no kidding. Massive crazy in HET and GEN, too. No doubt. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. It's just that crazy didn't come out as much in the clips.

They do have a great friendly/brothery type of interaction. The hat thing was priceless :)

[identity profile] lastwordslinger.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I think HET and GEN fans are a minority in this fandom, LOL! That's why we stick together. ;)

Oh, my. Most days, I'm embarrassed to be human. Why do people bring up incest like it's a socially acceptable thing to joke about? Uhm, fandom reality =/= reality, reality. Incest is a serious social taboo, and IMO a subject that is not 1) hot or 2) okay to a great number of people, not just two poor dudes who play brothers on a TV show.

I'd love to go to a con, but I don't want to be associated with this kind of crazy in even the smallest, guilt-by-association way.

[identity profile] lastwordslinger.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. Just thank you. I am consistently disgusted by how incest is just accepted in fandom, as though it's not entirely wrong. I doubt either of them could have foreseen that playing brothers would lead to THAT. Poor guys.

I don't mean to go off. As I've said, I have friends that like that stuff, and they know I don't like it, and we tolerate each others preferences. ;) It's just nice to find people that agree with me. :)

I spend most of my time pretending it's not out there, to be honest. People can like it, fine. But I don't wanna see it. I'm that big a baby about it. LOL.

And I certainly don't think anyone should ever mention it to the people involved. I think it's kinda creepy and presumptuous at the same time, but YMMV. We as fans don't know Jared and Jensen. Jared and Jensen are not really Sam and Dean. Seems simple, but apparently it's not.

[identity profile] lastwordslinger.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not see that as being a big baby about it at all! But... I act the same way, so... Biased? Hehe. Seriously, being a baby about it would be flaming everyone that practiced in those parts of fandom. Ignoring it is all you can do, so that's the healthy way of handling it, I feel. I'll stay in my HET corner, thankyouverymuch. ;)

I feel like their approach of trying to get the guys to accept it is a surefire way of ruining their own fun time. They should really thank their lucky stars the boys haven't gotten truly offended yet and done something to protect their names online. But yes, I agree entirely. They are not their characters, and we don't know them outside of interviews, which is not really knowing someone.

They just need to calm down. I think it's being in their physical proximity that makes normally sane people lose it. All those pheromones and testosterone. :p

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't think people can tell the difference between actor and character sometimes. Look how often that happened in SG-1 fandom.

And holy crap. Hp fandom? I'm not even in that fandom and some of those people think that the character talk to them from the astral planes. I mean wha?

People are...interesting.

I know. I'm not in a position to go anyway given I am unemployed right now - and now the state is trying to say that I am so my benefits will be taken away - but if I had the money, I'm not sure I want to go. I've seen what happens at SG-1 cons and it sucks the fun right out.

*hugs* Move to Minnesota - they've got a great state healthcare program, and Minneapolis is lovely despite getting a bum rap by just about everyone on the planet.

The only con I didn't feel completely uncomfortable at 95% of the time was Polaris in Toronto - the first year I went, I didn't even go for the headliners. That con's all about the panels and small group discussion, and it's lovely.

(And the only reasons I felt a smidge uncomfortable there was because some dude kept staring at me until he finally approached me and said I was the spitting image of [insert female relation here], and another guy fixated on my phoenix tattoo and wouldn't stop bugging me until I let him take a picture of it. Which I shouldn't have, because now there's an image of my very nice leg on his tattoo-fetish website - he told me that the next year.)

LOL, sorry. I'm suddenly chatty and not feeling like work. ;)

Sorry, butting in here. :) I just wanted to say I completely agree with you! There's nothing worse than rabid fans embarrassing the crap out of Jared and Jensen. Some might say it's the cost of them being famous, but, they're normal PEOPLE, just like everyone else. And the slashers can keep their smut to themselves. I agree with you too about the trained monkey business. For the amount of times they have to perform those scenes for the show, they don't need to do repeat them for live audiences when the time spent at the conventions is about sitting and talking to the fans. If they do certain quotes or whatever on their own, great, but that shouldn't be a high pressure thing. Oy vey.

[identity profile] lastwordslinger.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I don't mind someone butting in to agree! LOL! It's hard to watch sometimes when you can see Jensen shifting uncomfortably under the scrutiny. Jared is a lot more at home with giving in to demands, but I wish the fans would stop badgering Jensen when he obviously doesn't like it. And at least they are getting more comfortable with telling the slasher to stop it, at least when it comes to Wincest. I don't think Jared knew what to say to the comments about him and Jensen in real life. O_O Can't say I blame him. If someone was shipping me and my best friend, I would be weirded out, too.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I'm a bit of a cross between Jared and Jensen's public personas. (I don't even pretend to think I know what they are really like.) I joke around a lot, but I am also reserved and thoughtful. So if someone kept shipping me and my best friend? I would probably laugh about it. Of course, I mean that with the innocent harmless people. If people were shipping me with my friends and heaven forbid, my brother, and were dead serious about it to the point they were spreading tons of lies and rumors? I would be so pissed off.

And yes, I just wish people would overall be more respectful. If an actor likes to play it up, go for it. If an actor obviously doesn't, stop it. Not too hard LOL

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
If an actor is fine with doing that, that's cool. but when it is obvious an actor doesn't want to do it, then leave him alone. Not hard right? LOL

I mean I give a pass for people you seriously don't know. Some con goers may not be online and hear stuff. But anyone online and in fandom should know better. And when you are at a place like that, you can tell by the way an actor carries himself, responds, and just the vbe of the place what is appropriate or not.

Alas. They need to make like behavioral books for fandom.
