Supernatural Con Clips

Ack, I'm spamming today. It's because my anxiety is flaring up.

I just finished watching the con clips from this past weekend over on youtube. Overall, they were a lot of fun to watch. Jensen and Jared are a hoot together. I liked those the best. Jared as always is really funny and high energy while Jensen is more thoughtful. It's great to watch them. I'm happy that I have taken a shine to actors that are generally nice and talented. I really wish the best for their careers.

Though, I admit that some of the fan behavior makes me cringe and makes me embarassed to be a fan. Sometimes I really want to go to an SPN con and I entertain going (if I had the money) but it's some of the behaviors that make me think no way. One clip it even looked like Jared wasn't pleased and that guy is always bouncing. But overall, the fans are nice. I just get anxious with the really extreme parts of fandom.

I highly recommend them, but there are some vague spoilers for some upcoming episodes.

Hi there! I friended you(I hope you don't mind, I loved your St.Patrick's day story), and thanks for telling us there are clips up at Youtube. I shall have to go check them out.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi! I was trying to place you and remember where I had talked to you before, but my mind has been like a wasteland lately. I'm glad you enjoyed the fic :)

And the youtube clips are great. Just block out the crazy and you'll be fine.

Let me go check out your LJ :)

[identity profile] cate12345.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm new to Supernatural(well, the fandom anyway), so my journal is seriously lacking in that kind of stuff. But I'm trying to find people that are interested in Supernatural, but not the Wincest and J2 stuff that I've encountered. I'm just slowly finding people that I share interests with, and your story lead me to you! Yours was the first Supernatural story I've commented on, I really enjoyed it.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! You're new? Crap, I hope we're not scaring you off with a crazy fan venting LOL

Welcome though! I'm not very active in the fandom myself, but I'm sure you'll have fun. Many of us keep to our LJ's and stay away from the wank LOL

Wank bad. Flist gooood.

[identity profile] cate12345.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, don't worry about it. I know about crazy fandoms, I think it's par for the course. That's why I've been so careful checking things out, trying to find some people I may have something in common with. I haven't been to active in the SPN fandom(only been at this a couple of months), so just trying to find my way. Thanks for the welcome, and thanks shallanelprin for the Wiki link!

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Very smart way to go. I've been in fandoms prior to SPN, so I've experienced some of it. I suppose it could always be worse.

I just tend to attract wank. I don't even go looking for it most of the time - unless it's Smallville - but I find it anyway! LOL

[identity profile] shallanelprin.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You can find links to most of the vids at Superwiki. They're fun :)

I hear you on the fan weirdness. I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but it kind of upset me to watch some random woman make Jared as flustered as he got when she wished him luck on his "pursuit of Jensen". I don't think I've ever seen Jared get offended before, and that was awful close. I get it. People ship them, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. But do they really think that is endearing to either of them? That people take their friendship the wrong way and confront them like that? Honestly, people can like whatever they want to! That's their right. I just think it's in terrible taste to act like your fan-stuff is canon in front of the actors. O_o So uncomfortable.

Also, I LOLed when someone yelled out Wincest, and Jensen said, with narrowed eyes, "WHAT? ...I heard that." And Jared added, "that's not funny." And they moved on. I think that speaks for itself. :p

One last thing to rant on, and then I swear I will shut up. Why can't they let Jensen be himself? It's like they want him to get onstage and dance like a trained monkey. "Do Eye of the Tiger! Say sonofabitch! Do the cat scream!" IF YOU WANT TO SEE THAT, THEN WATCH THE EPISODES. Jensen is a real person who is NOT Dean and deserves a leeettle more respect than that.

*gets off soapbox* See what you started? LOL!

Honestly, I loved the con footage. I just cringe at those moments is all.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You know what the sad part is? Look, I really hate Wincest and J2. I do. I hate it. But the people I know who ship it are good people. They are nice people and they know the difference between fantasy and reality. So these people? They make the friends I know look BAD. And that ticks me off. It's a poor reflection on fans as a whole and the Wincest or J2 people that really aren't batshit crazy.

I heard and saw the "pursuit of Jensen" thing, but I cou;dn't hear what had set Jared off enough to get really serious with "that's not funny." Now I know. That's too bad.

I just think some fans blur reality. It creeps me out since I doubt most fans are this way. And the actors are people. They have distinct personalities. Jensen doesn't like to perform like that on the spot. Stop asking him. Jared seems a little more outgoing, but that is his personality. I just think people should respect boundaries is all.

But enough with the not nice stuff. The clips were great and to watch them joke and laugh and banter was so much fun. You can tell they are good friends and really enjoy having fun :)

[identity profile] lastwordslinger.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Look, I really hate Wincest and J2. I do. I hate it. But the people I know who ship it are good people. They are nice people and they know the difference between fantasy and reality.

Same here. I really hate both those parts of fandom, BUT I have met some really nice, sane people who just happen to like those things. So it really makes me wonder where these crazies are coming from. Then again, there are insane HET fans and GEN fans and so on. It really is an individual thing, but I wish they could hold their tongues, either way.

I didn't mean to start a rant! I apologize. Like you said, other than that, the videos were great! Jensen was actually doing a great job of being comfortable with the fans. I really love watching how comfortable they are with each other, like any great duo. I think it reminds us all of what makes this show work, and that's brotherly chemistry! :D The moments where they were doing stuff like interrupting each other and Jensen stealing Jared's hat... They are such brothers, LOL!

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no kidding. Massive crazy in HET and GEN, too. No doubt. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. It's just that crazy didn't come out as much in the clips.

They do have a great friendly/brothery type of interaction. The hat thing was priceless :)

[identity profile] lastwordslinger.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I think HET and GEN fans are a minority in this fandom, LOL! That's why we stick together. ;)

Oh, my. Most days, I'm embarrassed to be human. Why do people bring up incest like it's a socially acceptable thing to joke about? Uhm, fandom reality =/= reality, reality. Incest is a serious social taboo, and IMO a subject that is not 1) hot or 2) okay to a great number of people, not just two poor dudes who play brothers on a TV show.

I'd love to go to a con, but I don't want to be associated with this kind of crazy in even the smallest, guilt-by-association way.

[identity profile] lastwordslinger.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. Just thank you. I am consistently disgusted by how incest is just accepted in fandom, as though it's not entirely wrong. I doubt either of them could have foreseen that playing brothers would lead to THAT. Poor guys.

I don't mean to go off. As I've said, I have friends that like that stuff, and they know I don't like it, and we tolerate each others preferences. ;) It's just nice to find people that agree with me. :)
superbadgirl: (car dean sam)

[personal profile] superbadgirl 2008-11-19 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I spend most of my time pretending it's not out there, to be honest. People can like it, fine. But I don't wanna see it. I'm that big a baby about it. LOL.

And I certainly don't think anyone should ever mention it to the people involved. I think it's kinda creepy and presumptuous at the same time, but YMMV. We as fans don't know Jared and Jensen. Jared and Jensen are not really Sam and Dean. Seems simple, but apparently it's not.

[identity profile] lastwordslinger.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not see that as being a big baby about it at all! But... I act the same way, so... Biased? Hehe. Seriously, being a baby about it would be flaming everyone that practiced in those parts of fandom. Ignoring it is all you can do, so that's the healthy way of handling it, I feel. I'll stay in my HET corner, thankyouverymuch. ;)

I feel like their approach of trying to get the guys to accept it is a surefire way of ruining their own fun time. They should really thank their lucky stars the boys haven't gotten truly offended yet and done something to protect their names online. But yes, I agree entirely. They are not their characters, and we don't know them outside of interviews, which is not really knowing someone.

They just need to calm down. I think it's being in their physical proximity that makes normally sane people lose it. All those pheromones and testosterone. :p

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't think people can tell the difference between actor and character sometimes. Look how often that happened in SG-1 fandom.

And holy crap. Hp fandom? I'm not even in that fandom and some of those people think that the character talk to them from the astral planes. I mean wha?

People are...interesting.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd love to go to a con, but I don't want to be associated with this kind of crazy in even the smallest, guilt-by-association way.

I know. I'm not in a position to go anyway given I am unemployed right now - and now the state is trying to say that I am so my benefits will be taken away - but if I had the money, I'm not sure I want to go. I've seen what happens at SG-1 cons and it sucks the fun right out.
superbadgirl: (boy with demon blood)

[personal profile] superbadgirl 2008-11-19 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Move to Minnesota - they've got a great state healthcare program, and Minneapolis is lovely despite getting a bum rap by just about everyone on the planet.

The only con I didn't feel completely uncomfortable at 95% of the time was Polaris in Toronto - the first year I went, I didn't even go for the headliners. That con's all about the panels and small group discussion, and it's lovely.

(And the only reasons I felt a smidge uncomfortable there was because some dude kept staring at me until he finally approached me and said I was the spitting image of [insert female relation here], and another guy fixated on my phoenix tattoo and wouldn't stop bugging me until I let him take a picture of it. Which I shouldn't have, because now there's an image of my very nice leg on his tattoo-fetish website - he told me that the next year.)

LOL, sorry. I'm suddenly chatty and not feeling like work. ;)

[identity profile] jenni-fromtexas.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, butting in here. :) I just wanted to say I completely agree with you! There's nothing worse than rabid fans embarrassing the crap out of Jared and Jensen. Some might say it's the cost of them being famous, but, they're normal PEOPLE, just like everyone else. And the slashers can keep their smut to themselves. I agree with you too about the trained monkey business. For the amount of times they have to perform those scenes for the show, they don't need to do repeat them for live audiences when the time spent at the conventions is about sitting and talking to the fans. If they do certain quotes or whatever on their own, great, but that shouldn't be a high pressure thing. Oy vey.

[identity profile] lastwordslinger.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I don't mind someone butting in to agree! LOL! It's hard to watch sometimes when you can see Jensen shifting uncomfortably under the scrutiny. Jared is a lot more at home with giving in to demands, but I wish the fans would stop badgering Jensen when he obviously doesn't like it. And at least they are getting more comfortable with telling the slasher to stop it, at least when it comes to Wincest. I don't think Jared knew what to say to the comments about him and Jensen in real life. O_O Can't say I blame him. If someone was shipping me and my best friend, I would be weirded out, too.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I'm a bit of a cross between Jared and Jensen's public personas. (I don't even pretend to think I know what they are really like.) I joke around a lot, but I am also reserved and thoughtful. So if someone kept shipping me and my best friend? I would probably laugh about it. Of course, I mean that with the innocent harmless people. If people were shipping me with my friends and heaven forbid, my brother, and were dead serious about it to the point they were spreading tons of lies and rumors? I would be so pissed off.

And yes, I just wish people would overall be more respectful. If an actor likes to play it up, go for it. If an actor obviously doesn't, stop it. Not too hard LOL

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
If an actor is fine with doing that, that's cool. but when it is obvious an actor doesn't want to do it, then leave him alone. Not hard right? LOL

I mean I give a pass for people you seriously don't know. Some con goers may not be online and hear stuff. But anyone online and in fandom should know better. And when you are at a place like that, you can tell by the way an actor carries himself, responds, and just the vbe of the place what is appropriate or not.

Alas. They need to make like behavioral books for fandom.

I've done the con circuit before back when I had money. I went to SG-1 cons. And it's awesome to be able to see the actors and listen to what they have to say.

But it's embarassing when the fans act up. You just want to hide in a corner. Most of us are nice people and to be associated with that makes me cringe ;)
superbadgirl: (Sam JMT)

[personal profile] superbadgirl 2008-11-19 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, if someone can take the bounce out of Padalecki, then fan behavior is inappropriate.

(I want to, but I won't watch the con vids.)

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
They were a lot of fun to watch. (I finally caved and watched them.) But really, some were cringe worthy and embarassing. It's a good reminder in what NOT to become. I think we're all crazy enough LOL

But there were some vague spoilers about what a couple of episodes would be about, etc.

And no joke. Jared got quiet and serious. We all know what he is usually like, public persona wise.

It's the spoilery bits I don't want to see. :)

And no joke. Jared got quiet and serious. We all know what he is usually like, public persona wise.

Poor guy. I have no idea what I'd do if some random stranger decided my sister B and I were a perfect couple and started asking us how the romance was. Spork them in the eye, I imagine.

I love my sister. I just don't love my sister.

It's a damned shame that agape love is valued so little these days. ;)

I know. My brother and I? We're a lot like Sam and Dean, but obviously not as "guyish", duh LOL I love him. I would do just about anuything for him. Only, I don't love him. But massive squick if people thought...yeah.

Like I said, I may be totally against it, but at least some people I know who like it are not like these fans. It's not fair to paint them with the same brush. But man.

[identity profile] shallanelprin.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never been able to afford going to the actual conventions so I have a lot of fun virtually 'attending' via YouTube. I have to say that this con is one of the worst in terms of fan behavior which is sad. Jared will do crazy things on stage, Jensen won't...so stop asking already! And I cannot believe someone brought up the necrophilia thing. Good grief people.

I do think the boys handled it well and in a few more cons they might feel comfortable enough to start calling fans on their crap. One of the reasons I love Michael Shanks (from Stargate SG-1) is that he'll tell people (fans) that they're nuts to their faces at Q&A sessions. It's awesome :)

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I barely heard the necrophilia thing, but I heard it creep into one of the clips. I kind of figured that would happen :( At leats what I saw Jared made it into a joke.

I've met Micheal Shanks and yeah he can be snarky to the fans. Though, he was very nice to me. It's all about how you treat a person.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I know. he obviously doesn't want to perform or sing. The act of the panel itself is probably enough performance for him. I can't blame him.

Oh they totally raz on us behind the scenes ;)

[identity profile] jenni-fromtexas.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I considered going to the Dallas convention, but it was beaucoup bucks, way out of my league. :( I'll enjoy living vicariously through the clips, though! *g*

There are parts of this fandom that drive me absolutely insane, LOL. I think I would want to crawl under my seat if I did get to go to one and some creepy fans started in on them with the kink or anything else that spoils their moods. I was lucky enough to get to see Jensen perform in the Few Good Men play in Fort Worth and it was just my pure joy to see him on stage. I didn't feel the need to wait by the stage door to harrass him, I respect him too much, but you should have seen the wide-eyed obsessed crowd. It was scary. I felt terrible that Jensen had to walk outside to that, being so exhausted from the performance. Crazy batshit people, I tell ya. It was as though they believed purchasing the tickets to the play entitled them to get to meet him in person.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh you went to the play? How was it? DId you enjoy it? That must have been exciting!

I had heard people were waiting outside. That doesn't bother me so much if they were respectful and all, but as soon as it gets obnoxious forget it. Fans have such entitlement issues.

We really don't deserve anything ;)

[identity profile] flynn-boyant.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I was there and while I did enjoy it I did get VERY embarrassed by some of the things said to them in the panels.

My hope is that they know from the, "Oh god, you did NOT just say that reaction," from members of the crowd (like me) that they know that not everyone in attendance agrees with those sentiments. Let's just say that everyone in my area of the room was pissed when the necrophilia and "pursuit of Jensen" things were said.

Fandom is such a double edged sword at times.

They were adorable though, I must say. :)

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I've been to cons before too (just for a different fandom) and I know that the group tends to police its own. When you watch on youtube, it's hard to get that impression sometimes.

But it's always those few that ruin it for the rest. I want to headdesk everytime one of the nutters fans gets up to the mike.

[identity profile] flynn-boyant.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I want to headdesk everytime one of the nutters fans gets up to the mike.

AMEN.
I think I just groaned.

I did meet some wonderful, considerate fans there as well. It's just too bad that they aren't as loud as the nutballs. :(

[identity profile] timeblind.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Spammage is okay love! ♥

I looooved the con clips! But you're right, some of the fan behaviour... I'm so amazed that the guys are still so nice and down-to-earth, y'know? Even Jared manages to take all that crap and awkward questions and make them into a joke... They're just so amazing. Some fans should totally just back off. :/

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed!

But yeah the clips were adorable. I loved how they both fell. I loved how Jared kept trying to mess up the mike and hand it off to Jensen or every time when they started to joke and goof off.

They are awesome :)

[identity profile] autumndandelion.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I've run into it more at NASCAR races than at cons (probably because the main con I attend, Arisia, doesn't draw big name guests), but fan behaviour really can be embarrassing. At races, it comes in the form of people yelling to drivers like they're dogs. Some fans will incessantly try to get drivers to come over to sign autographs when drivers are in the middle of a practice session, talking with their crew chiefs, or eating. Fans have mobbed drivers. The worst one I experienced personally was when Jimmie Johnson walked by in the garage area, and people threw themselves at him to the point that he got shoved around. Fans can be ridiculous, and it really is embarrasing to be associated with people like that as a fellow fan.

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. I'm not a race fan, but that's pretty extreme. I guess it goes to show you that this sort of thing happens everywhere.

I just wonder what part of human behavior triggers this sort of thing?

[identity profile] autumndandelion.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's mob mentality. Too many people get this idea that, when they're in a group, they can't be seen as individuals, so you can do whatever the hell you want and not get in trouble for it.

[identity profile] a-phoenixdragon.livejournal.com 2008-11-23 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes fandom is urk...

*hugs you*
