Superman TAS: Season 3

Yay cartoons! *loves them*

So, since I have a bunch of chores done for the day, I popped out my superman cartoon DVDs that I've had for a while and never watched. Well, I saw a good chuck of these back when they first aired in the 90s - my bro was a fan - and I finally got around to watching most of the 3rd season. I watched the first two seasons last year.

Since I see Smallville as an amalgamation of all different media before it, I decided to look for similarities.

TAS was always very well done. Unfortunately, while I love comics, I never could collect many so I don't own Superman comics. I hear that the cartoon did a very close interpretation of the comics, though.

I really love Dana Delany's Lois. If the cartoon had gone on longer, I have no doubt that we would have seen Clark and Lois draw a little closer. But it is a kid's cartoon so it does have a certain vibe. S3, though, was overall much darker.

Of course you have Darksied and all of that. But I am looking at SV parallels.

"Somehow I don't smell a Pulitzer here...or soap for that matter." - Lois covering a geek show.

Jimmy tired of being in Lois' shadow - snags himself a byline.

Clark's little sarcastic jokes = SV Clark all of this season

Kara/Jimmy.

Lois and Aquaman.

Lex (on Aquaman): "He's an ecological terrorist."

The whole episode named "Superman's Pal" really had some great Clark and Jimmy (and Superman) moments. This is the Jimmy I've been seeing on SV lately.

Lois admitting she had some second thoughts about Bruce - parallel to Oliver.

The entire Legion episode.

Jimmy has a thing for blondes that work at the Daily Planet. With bracelets. ;)

I could go on and on, but those are some of the highlights aside from the really obvious stuff. It just makes me giddy when I see Smallville getting it right. I've liked SV's take on Maggie Swayer, too. I am curious how they will handle more comic books characters. (Not stating names as I don't want to spill.)

I have not watched the series finale two parter yet, however. I know those are some dark episodes. I tend to prefer my Superman shows light and fun, mostly.

On a sadder note, the Kara in S3 is really the Kara I wanted to have on SV. Why couldn't they have written Kara and Clark that way? He didn't even need to be Superman yet to have that dynamic. It's why I was originally excited to have Kara on last season. I was expecting a character like the one of the cartoon. Or heck, even in that horrible Supergirl movie I worshipped as a kid. The Kara we got just annoyed me most of the time. I'm glad she received a noble exit off the series, though.

In non-TAS news, SV fandom? Ha. Your batshittery never fails to amuse me. Never change.

ETA: There may be some spoilers in the comments.

I love the comparisons between SV and other versions. There are more than people like to admit and it's fun to see them! :D

Is there some new wank or the usual stuff?

There are so so many parallels it's fun. I actually watched LnC AFTER I started watching SV and was like whoa. I think the parallels to the movies are the most well know, though.

Oh, no knew wank. Just a bit of buzz over the clips. I'm a sick person, though. I relish the wank. I think it's the anthropologist in me. I love studying the human interaction and how people operate in fandom. SV fandom is like a feast for me.

I wanted to like Kara. I really did. I just hated the storyline. I was hoping for more a Clark mentoring of Kara sort of thing but it just never happened. Not enough, anyway.

The STAS was really great. I only have 2 eps left. I don't own the JLA, but I watched it when it first aired. U was a big fan of BTAS, but I didn't like Batman Beyond at all. Kevin Conroy will always be Batman to me, though.

I study wank so it amuses me more that frustrates me. But it's good to avoid if it drives you nuts ;) And hey, good for you on waiting. Bride airs tomorrow :)

Uh Oh - what's the SV fandom doing now?

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh just the usual. I am watching the fan camps snip at each other. Heh.

And they do it so well don't they? It is kind of fascinating to watch, isn't it?

I do find it fascinating. SV fandom is like no other fandom I have seen in terms of crazy. It's just amazing to watch. And it's not just one fan camp that gets crazy. Every single corner of fandom has it's craziness.

I can't help but be fascinated by it ;)

Heh. I can't say the same - as crazy as SV can be it has nothing on HP fandom. Nothing. LOL

LOL Isn't HP a given though? Snape's wives? The astral plane?

Heck, I am not even in that fandom and I know way too much about it. I think they are the birthplace for theories and stuff.

And that is just book/movie based stuff. That's not counting sockpuppets and librarians.

I think at this point HP is just my benchmark in which I base other fandoms on in terms of wank. I can't help it - it's just such a easy target at this point. Nothing comes close - though I do think the Twilight fandom is trying to!

That said I really think that if there had been in internet back in the 80's the Star Wars fandom would have enjoyed the same notoriety of wank that the HP fandom has.

Though SV did have that one sock puppet a while ago!

Sooo... since I have no SV friends outside the Clois ship (okay, a couple who remain pretty quiet around me)... what are the other groups saying about the clips?

[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Things have been pretty quiet about the Bride clips. I'm guessing those really angry about them are speaking in private. The most vocal stuff I have seen is on TWoP.

To preface this though, I call batshit on all parties, including some Cloisers. And I do have some nice Chlarkers and Chloisers on my flist. I don't know if I have anyone who likes Clana on my flist. I can't remember.

Some people are in denial about them and say Clark isn't interested at all. I've seen some comparisons to Lois as Mrs Robinson from the Graduate. Debate over "pining." And of course, TONS of Clark bashing.

It's Smallville. I can't see anything major happening anyway. Clois will be teased and then ripped away and the show may end on a note where Clark starts to pursue Lois. *shrugs* Who knows. I just amazed and fascinated by the tactics fan camps use against each other.

You can't say SV fandom isn't passionate ;)
