Novella: Frequency

I have a new novella up on my site. This was originally posted in a zine (AG10) and times out this month. It's gen and focuses both on the Jack and Daniel friendship (the highs, the lows, and everything in between) and the team as a whole. I would classify it as having multiple components: drama, action/adventure, mystery, and a twinge of horror.

Title: Frequency
Author: Moonshayde
Season: Three
Category: Drama
Spoilers: The Nox, The Fifth Race, One False Step, Legacy, Fair Game
Pairing/Character: Jack/Daniel friendship, Team
Summary: When an off-world recon mission goes wrong, Jack and Daniel find themselves separated from the team while lost on an alien landscape with one of their own succumbing to an inexplicable attraction to the strange alien life that surrounds them. It's a race against time as they search for Sam and Teal'c, fight against their alien pursuers, and try to unlock the truth over Daniel deteriorating condition before they are all lost to the secrets of the planet.
Warnings: mild language and minor Daniel and Sam whumping
Rating: PG-13

Now off to distract myself some more...

whew! Quite a story. And what an interesting decision on your part: to make it wholly Daniel's POV, so that the reader is just as confused - and "drugged" - as he is.

I especially liked Daniel's fear re Legacy; that must have just happened, since Sha're is still alive. And I loved his determination to understand and communicate, despite what he was suffering.

A long satisfying story when I really didn't have time for it, but read it anyway. And I needed the break. and I really, really liked it. So there. :)

Thanks :) I'm very glad that you liked it. I'm hypercritical of my stuff, so after the honeymoon phase is over, I tend to think that my fics just don't come off with the appeal I would hope they would.

The decision to write through Daniel's pov can be labeled interesting or just plain crazy. But it suited the story. Having Jack or even Sam and Teal'c suddenly have their pov would have thrown the whole thing. But, I can tell you that after 100+ pages of Daniel's thoughts, I was ready for someone else for a while LOL

Incidentally, this isn't the first time I've done a long fic through just one person's pov. Echoes of Autumn was entirely through Jack's pov and that was so that the reader could feel just as disjointed and confused as he was. I've very fond of that technique, apparently.

Thanks again for reading it, despite the lack of time. :)

Heh. We'll see. Don't like it as much as I used to.

Oh hush. :P

Haven't read it yet, but since I love all your stuff, I'm definitely going to as soon as I finish updating the Novel Archive. :)

And speaking of the archive, you knew this was coming, right? ;) Would you mind if I archive this story there? It's plenty long enough and, the best part, GEN!!! (Yes, adding Gen fics to the archive makes me bounce excitedly. *g*)

(((hugs)))

You certainly can archive it. Never can get enough GEN, I say. I wish more people would write it so i could read it.

How's the update going? Must be killer.

I think it's true what they say, about people losing at least some interest in their works the more they look at them. That's me rationalising why you might not be digging this fic like you used to.

WOW! Your novella had everything - action, mystery, drama, character development, whumping... I have to admit, I'm a sucker for whumping. You did it really well here. I especially love how you portrayed Jack and Daniel's relationship. It's so easy to have two characters fall into the traditional hurt/comfort mode once you set up that type of scenerio, but you didn't. Jack was his emotionally retentitive, complicated self here. You really showed the complexity of Daniel and Jack's relationship through their behaviour when coping with Daniel's condition.

The Daniel POV throughout the piece really worked. How colourful! = P Seriously, you really brought what he was going through to life. I felt like I was in that technicolour fog with him, trying to figure out what the hell was going on. I loved the twist at the end and the whole subplot with the injured alien and his pad.

This is one of my favourite SG-1 fics. You truly did an incredible job with this novella! LOVED every minute of it!

= D

I *always* lose interest in my stuff as time goes by. I like to think of it as a writer leaving the honeymoon phase of their writing. This was a zine fic that I wrote a year ago, so it's been a year since I was in the moment. There are a lot of things that I would do differently now; there are some things I wouldn't change. But that is true of just about every writrer and their works, so I know I'm not alone in it ;)

I'm extremely glad that the Jack/Daniel friendship worked for you. My #1 priority here was to buck traditional fanifc hurt/comfort roles and try to show the relatiosnhip as I see it (or part of how I see it) on the show. For me, Daniel and Jack truly care and love each other. SG-1 is like family. But even though they care for each other, they equally get on each other's nerves and antagonize each other. They also have different ways of expressing themselves, and their emotions. Jack is very closed off emotionally while Daniel is more open in some ways. But they both care deeply -- they just have distinct ways of showing it. That sort of thing is important to me. And of course plot is important to me as well. No other pov would have worked but Daniels :)

Thank you very much for reading. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

Just re read it again after stumbling back across it I was very suprised that it's still up over on Geocites considering they have shutdown but me's not complaining at all :D

Love it so very much!

Is there a chance of me archiving it on my stargate site?

Yeah, believe it or not my geocities account is in tact still. They gave me like a 5 year window so I'm currently deciding what I'm going to do. I have every intention of closing the site down, but I've never gotten around to it.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the story. You can certainly archive it on your site :)

Cool thanks so much any chance I could archive your other SG1 stories too?

It was nice of them to give you all that time to keep the site up.
