I only saw the last hour but...meh. Not impressed and I was bored most of the time. Not sure if I will be watching next year but hey it was fun while it lasted!
I have to admit I watched the first two seasons happily, the third with some reluctance, but I couldn't get into the fourth at all. I guess the never-ending cycle of running around torturing people for information and blowing things up and shooting got, I don't know, too much, in the end?
I haven't seen all the seasons. I am dying to see season 1. I saw season 2 and loved it (especially the politics). I saw season 3 and it seemed to start off good and then started to fall apart. I haven't seen season 4. And I watched season 5.
My biggest complaint is that it gets really repetitive. And I thik they went "too big" too fast. I know the fist season is basically about a mole in the CTU. Then the second season is primarily about nuclear weapons. Since season 2, they've been trying to outdo themselves and make it bigger and better. If they hadn't made such a huge leap between season 1 and 2, maybe it wouldn't look like they keep trying to best themselves.
Season 1 I think was the best, but even then they had their missteps (the cougar...don't ask). They were a bit overwhelmed by the popularity, and started to go to extremes even then...playing with various plot arc/ideas...and almost not sure whether to spoof themselves or take themselves seriously at times.
Since you haven't seen the show from the beginning, what do you think of Kim?
The Henderson showdown was the best part of the two hours.
I thought the cougar was part of the ridiculous Kim storyline in Season 2? Season 2 was fantastic aside from her storyline. I felt they did a better job of giving her a story in Season 3, but she often just seemed to be filler. It got old fast. I don't think they should have had her as much in Season 2--it would have been more believable.
I don't hate Kim, but I think there was too much of an emphasis on her. I have seen parts of Season 1 so I know what her story was like that season--at least it made sense. But to keep having Kim in peril over and over...meh.
And then they just really annoyed me with her apperance in season 5.
Oh wait, you're right. That WAS Season 2...when she and her dingbat boyfriend were escaping from the police.
Then yeah, Definitely watch Season 1. Palmer in all his glory. And Jack's really bad day actually makes a bit of sense. Speaking of Palmer, have you seen that actor's new show, the Unit? I like the acting, but sometimes the writing...
Yeah. And, well, if you want my honest opinion, I just don't think it's that interesting. It was good at first, because the idea itself was new and worked well, but then it turned into this American-patriot-warstory - and, in my opinion, a very violent one there -, that just didn't really work with me. There were some scenes in S4, particularly some pretty mean mental torture, that really got the wrong message across to me.

And, as you said, repetitive.
